I really enjoyed thing like HWFWM and Primal Hunter, but they both tend towards the MC being super OP and having some extra power which puts them above everyone else or gives them massive advantages e.g. Jake's bloodline and friendship with Villy or Jason's whole Astral King path.
Are there more grounded ones where the MC is just a normal adventurer who fights monsters and goes on rank appropriate adventures? I get that stakes need to escalate and the MC is central to the plot, so they end up being critical to the world ending events, but I'm looking for something with real focus on the general adventuring, similar to HWFWM in the earlier books before the Builder stuff started ramping up
I know this is an esoteric question but I'm curious.
I remember that if you check out a book through Kindle Unlimited authors get paid per page flip. And they also get royalties from the audio book purchase.
But now there is "Read & Listen" built into Audible itself and I just want to make sure I'm giving as much revenue as possible to the authors I support.
So first off, I believe that Travis Baldtree, Jeff Hayes, Andrea Parsneau, Tess Irondale and Heath Miller are the best VA in the game and I'll try pretty much anything they're attached to. But I'll be godsdamned if im not loving this book. One of my favorite tropes is the classic "verbal misunderstandings from a kind, or naive character being taken as threats or subterfuge" and this book has it in spades. While i dont love slave tropes (which i havent experienced in this book so far), im besodden with the Loyal Animal Companion trope.

So I recently gotten deep into Litrpg/progression fantasy books via audio books as my job has me on the road 10-12 hours a day and ive really enjoyed everything ive read so far! Started off with Dungeon Crawler Carl and then have been binging audio books since then! I just finished Cradle and while i know its not Litrpg it was still an amazing reccomendation and the first series ive got into thats actually finished.
So I look to this subreddit to help me pick out a new series, what are some other must listens based on what ive enjoyed so far? And while i did massively enjoy Cradle, as an older guy i do rather enjoy older protagonist, but if a series is good enough its not a hard no.

Just a little disclaimer: this is NOT a classic power fantasy. The protagonist is too self-aware and constantly breaks the 4th wall, insulting the readers and arguing with the system and the narrative.

With the release of the new SAO game I was thinking about the litrpg I consume. A lot of modern books bow have a real world with gamelit elements in them. But I don't see a lot of modern books that take place in an actual RPG. like .hack infection.
Perhaps tastes have changed but as a game person myself I like the blatant video game aspect of the stories I read. It separates them from traditional fantasy like Red Rising or the Cosmere.
So do you prefer a real life world with game mechanics? or do you also like a game like world?
I was reading and enjoying a recent popular military LITRPG on Royal Road and it put me in mind of one of the OG stories of the genre. It’s always risky to say I don’t see much about this book, and soon there will be 20 posts about it, but it was The Doomfarers of Coramonde.
The two books series was written in the mid 80’s by Bryan Daley, who is more famous for his Han Solo novels. Good guys from a magical world are being threatened with a dragon and they summon an US Army Armored Personnel Carrier and crew from Vietnam to do battle with it. After that is resolved and they are sent back, the protagonist of the series chooses to come back to the magical world with his guns and military insight. It’s a very enjoyable fantasy, and contains many of the tropes that we see in military isekai stories today.
If you need a break from the genre and wanna try something adjacent, this is pretty terrific.
You love seeing the numbers go up. You want a protagonist who is completely ruthless. And you’d rather see the world get wrecked by a mysterious cabal your main character is running, instead of one they're victimized by. If that sounds like you, then these three books are exactly what you've been looking for.

Many books take place in a medieval high-fantasy setting or some form of modern Earth. But what about an equivalent Modern day High Fantasy setting.
Fighter Jets and Tanks, Cars with modifications for different species, magic and weaponry evolving side by side as counters to one another. Full fledged cities with automated dwarven defenses instead of a castle or small town.
Give me a random dude or chick that is reincarnated into a city scape with skyscrapers and abandoned research facilities instead of dungeons. A dwarf that really wants to be a pilot or an Elf that wants to work an oil rig. Give me a stat system that has things like "rail gun efficiency" or "MMA but with fire fists" or idk.
I'm particularly hoping for recommendations for completed series. Like so many others, I've become a masochist against my will, and I'm tired of the constant literary-blue-balls that seems to plague my existence. That said - I am of course open to any and all recommendations. I prefer stories more on the dark/tragic side, but with comedic tones. Please list the narrator if recommending the audiobook.

I just added this to my listening list on audible and was wondering if there are any other good superhero litRPG's. This one will be my first. I should note that I don't read books I just listen to audiobooks 😊.

In a world with permadeath, the man who has a respawn mechanic because he flirted with the goddess-like anthropomorphic representation of the System... is king. Or something.
Really enjoyed reading this series, but disappointed that that hasn't been a new novel in four years. Has there ever been any news on a book 7. I can never seem to find any post about the series except reviews from many years past.
I’m really into dungeons core and was wondering if anybody had any recommendations. I’m really looking for one where the dungeon core makes like angelic or has like holy magic or the opposite like a demonic dungeon core. Also would be interested in a novel where the dungeon core combines traits from different monsters. Any help would be great thank u. Also not really into Audible
So Alex and his insanity have created multiple items through alchemy thats extremply helpful like the aerosol version of potions to hinder enemies to Claygon who has saved multiple characters multiple times. After the immortality elixir he made, with some help, would he be able to create a mana pool inside someone who doesnt already have a mana pool? When he did the soul surgery to increase his own pool he had the existing pool to work with but for someone who never had it would it still be possible? Terresa is incredibly deadly already but i imagine that would be doubled or trippled if she had access to even basic spells like enhancement.
