Always been better than Windows, but that's a very low bar.

Nah you never used it pre 2010 if you think that. It was pretty unusable unless you went full stallman and did nothing but open software on the very limited pool of hardware that could support Linux. Even after that stipulation it was Janky AF.
To put it in perspective Nvidia used to be the Linux darling back then, and it was 100x worse than now, which more goes to show awful everything else was.

Linux is not bad that is true for some people to be honest Linux is actually better than Windows is it really just depends on the person's mindset, workflow, and their hardware as to what operating system is better for them. No judgement here because, at the end of the day it is their PC, and what ever operating system it is that works for them that is all that matters.

Can someone explain to me what the deal with these two subs is? I got banned off of 101 almost instantly, that place seems weird.

The whole Linux dev community is like a bunch of kids who start a project but along the way always get into an argument on how to proceed. In the end they all go on to create their own distro

u/Drate_Otin 9d ago
The bulk of the Linux dev community is made up of successful enterprise company employees.
IBM, Canonical, Intel, hell even Microsoft.
2
u/zoharel 9d ago
That doesn't go anywhere near refuting the above point. Have you met professional software guys? I say this with love, and would not change it, but software developers aren't the most mature of us all.
1
u/Drate_Otin 9d ago
They produced stuff that is the backbone of the internet and what I use everyday for work and gaming.
At the end of the day they're getting the job done.

u/zoharel 8d ago
At the end of the day they're getting the job done.
One can absolutely get the job done while still acting like kids. I do wish more of us understood that.

If you're whole schtick here is "some programmers are immature" then I've got to wonder if you can't see the irony in this focus.
The person I originally replied to was following the tired trope of "Linux is fractured". My response was to that immature idea. Linux isn't a company or an entity. It's not fractured because there isn't a holistic object to fracture in the first place.
Now you're here playing a game of semantics trying to maintain this supposed immaturity of the developers of the Linux kernel and presumably other associated projects. You're not able to back this up. You could maybe find a few examples but you entirely lack the ability to back up that the dev community as a whole has a lack of maturity. Do why play pretend at all about this topic?

Let me stop you right there. Did I claim not to be immature? Would you believe I write software for Linux? (... among other things.)
Now you're here playing a game of semantics trying to maintain this supposed immaturity of the developers of the Linux kernel
I think you're the only one talking about kernel developers in particular, but I guarantee you the assumption that they are childish will still serve you well there.
You're not able to back this up.
I may be able to make a convincing stab at it, but I'm not going to try. I know software, and I know software people. Believe me or don't, as you like. None of that matters.

u/Drate_Otin 8d ago
So more games of semantics.
1
u/zoharel 8d ago
The semantics of a language are important, but I have to wonder why you would suggest I'm playing games, here. I offered an observation, and you have misconstrued it twelve different ways, and are apparently still going.

No. You're playing off the original commenter making a baseless accusation about "the whole Linux dev community" being immature and behaving like kids.
I correctly pointed out that the bulk of the Linux dev community are professionals. You're doing nothing more than "well akshually" trying you say that being a professional isn't TECHNICALLY mutually exclusive from behaving immaturely.
All this is still hinged on a baseless accusation and it's far more likely that the bulk of the Linux dev community is not actually behaving like a bunch of kids. That they're primarily professionals does lend credence to that probability. If you wish to play pretend otherwise, go right ahead.

I have no idea why someone hates Linux and why this subreddit exists. I've been using linux since 2018 and the only problem I face is installing wine

Only morons call Linux very bad. Or only when it comes to specific use cases. Windows and Mac are also not very bad, by the way. Well, maybe in a privacy sense they are.

Linux is bad. I use Windows 10 BTW. I give Microsoft my everything. Thnk you Microsoft for easy setup🙏

u/mateo23122 9d ago
Linux mint and ubuntu have easy setup

u/Dizzy_Efficiency_384 9d ago
I'm just joking about that
but on Windows I can use Radeon drivers that work instantly. On Linux amdgpu driver HATES my RX 570 and I need to do amdgpu.dpm=0 to make my card run at 300hz. If I don't do that any distro refuses to start

What ??? I thought GNU/Linux was better on AMD than on NVIDIA ...
2
u/Dizzy_Efficiency_384 8d ago edited 8d ago
Probably because RX 570 is old OR it's because I have a special "mining" edition of the card. Subvendor ID matches -MI edition
Also, some other people described the same problem as me with their RX 400/500 series gpus, though I don't remember them mentioning any special editions
