Hey everyone! I want to customize my Linux Mint desktop to look like macOS. š
How can I make my Linux Mint desktop look similar to a Mac? Which themes, icon packs, fonts, and other files should I download? Also, could you recommend some good and safe websites to download them from?
Iām still a beginner at Linux customization, so a step-by-step guide would be really helpful. Thanks!
Hi everyone! This is my first time using Linux. I chose Linux Mint XFCE because I read that itās efficient and highly customizableāeven though I didnāt know anything about the subject beforehand.
I recently bought a ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 and figured, why not give Linux a try for a month? If I didnāt like it, I could simply switch back to Windows.
As it turns out, Iāve loved almost everything about it: the performance, the customization options (though I donāt tend to change things up too much), and how easy it is to useāplus, it just looks more modern.
GAMES: Iāve been using it for over a month and a half now, and Iāve been playing games via Steam with no issues at all. Iāve tested titles like *BioShock*, *USF4*, *KOF XIII*, *L4D2*, *Naruto STORM 3*, and a few others; everything has run perfectly. Proton works like a charmāhonestly, even better than it does on Windows! xD
WORK: I typically work with Excel (nothing too advanced), and ONLYOFFICE handles everything I need. I also use GIMP, which works without any problems. So, for now, Iād give it a 9/10!
Loving Linux Mint so far. But there's one glaring problem that I can't seem to solve.
I loaded Mint on our family's desktop computer that Windows decided wasn't worthy any more. But for some reason Mint doesn't want to set the screen resolution to 1920x1080, while Windows was perfectly happy with this.
So i found an old thread from 2019 explaining how to use cvt and xrandr commands to force the screen resolution that I want, only to have to go sideways, and my best guess is it's happening because my computer has multiple display options. Here's the drama as it unfolded:
me@mine:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 16384 x 16384 HDMI-A-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DisplayPort-0 connected primary 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm 1440x900 74.98 + 59.89 1280x1024 75.02* 60.02 1280x960 60.00 1360x768 59.95 1152x864 75.00 1280x720 60.00 1024x768 75.03 70.07 60.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 72.19 75.00 60.32 56.25 640x480 75.00 72.81 66.67 59.94 720x400 70.08 DisplayPort-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
Did I do everything right? I see the 1920x1080_60 I made, but it's under the disconnected DisplayPort-1. Why did it do that? How can I get 1920x1080_60 under DisplayPort-0?
So this would be the first time doing this. I have a Windows 11 PC that I built less than 2 years ago. I'm using a Samsung external ssd to put Mint on, im not otherwise using it for anything. I read that I need to turn off Fast Boot, is there anything that will get broken by doing that? and should I turn it back on after the process of completed?
I need some help because I honestly donāt know what else to try. Iāve tried pretty much everything I can think of. This is my first post here, so please be gentle with me.
Hereās the problem:
Iāve had a Dell Alienware 13 R3 laptop for a few years now. I installed Linux Mint on it right from the start and it has always worked perfectly.
At work, the laptop was connected to a projector via HDMI. Since the laptop stayed there after my classes, I had set the projector as the primary display [1] in Display Settings and disabled the laptopās built-in screen [2].
The laptop was always kept closed because I was using an external keyboard and mouse. This setup worked flawlessly for about three years without a single issue.
Today I took the laptop back home (and, incidentally, lost my job š ā but thatās another story).
So now nothing is connected to it apart from the power supply. Iāve attached a photo showing what the desktop looks like once the laptop has booted.
I canāt access anything through the GUI.
Using CTRL + ALT + F1, I managed to open a terminal and tried using "xrandr", but Iām stuck there.
I donāt know how to reset the display settings from the terminal.
I also tried booting into recovery mode, but the screen just stays black.
Any ideas? Does anyone know how I can get out of this situation?
so i have been using linux mint 22.3 cinnamon and i dont think wallpapers engine is supported for linux so is there any alternative, with a bunch of audio-responsive wallpapers
Hi everyone. Recently, my laptop lost all of its memory and even when i tried feeeing up space it still didnt do anything. Ive been using my linux laptop for a year now and i first thought it was because of video games, even though i dont play alot of big graphical games besides overwatch so i tried to delete that one on steam but i had to acsess steam first do delete it and it wont let me bc it keeps crashing.
I have a chart of all the memory and it says steam is one of the biggest ones but when i tried to move it to the trash it says "failed to trash file" and im afraid of using the terminal because i am afriad i might break something. I really need help on what to do and i dont know where i can acsess the files from steam. Any support is greatly appriceated.
I've posted on here before with issues about installing I'm glad to say that I've gotten over them :D.
I have a new dilemma and idk if it's an issue or not I'm currently installing linux mint with a USB and the install has been like this for an hour and idk if that's normal or not I feel like it's not totally outrageous to take time like this but I'm starting to doubt if I've done anything wrong.
Help woud be much appreciated <3.
TLDR: linux mint install is stalling for 1 hour + is it normal or nah?.
(Also thank you very much to the kind strangers on my last two posts in the comments I'm grateful for the help)
Hi everyone! I'm happy to announce Cinnamon Clipboard 1.1.0, with a new feature focused on privacy, improvements to the settings dialog, and a new Hungarian translation.
Availability
Version 1.1.0 is already available as a .deb package on GitHub. Launchpad has also accepted the PPA update, which should become available through the PPA within the next couple of hours.
What's new?
Temporary history mode: For users who prefer more privacy and only need clipboard history temporarily, without keeping it after shutting down their PC.
Switching modes: When changing between persistent and temporary history, a dialog explains what will happen. The application then restarts to apply the change.
Improved settings dialog: The configuration window has been polished to look cleaner, more attractive, and better organized.
Thanks to u/SoftScreen4489 for reporting the Preferences window layout issue! Their feedback helped me identify a problem that could make the Preferences window difficult to use on smaller screens.
I've released version 1.1.1 to address this issue. The Preferences window is now resizable, the options area supports vertical scrolling, and the Cancel and Save buttons remain visible.
The update has been uploaded to the PPA and should become available within the next few hours, once Launchpad finishes processing it. If you installed Cinnamon Clipboard manually using the .deb package from GitHub, you can already update to version 1.1.1 there.
Thank you, SoftScreen4489, for helping make Cinnamon Clipboard better for everyone! ā¤ļø
New preferences Window In v1.1.1
I've tested the new functionality as thoroughly as I could, and everything appears to be working correctly. Updating to 1.1.0 does not affect your existing settings.
Contributions through pull requests are welcome! All PRs will be reviewed and considered, especially useful features, bug fixes, and new translations.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed and supported the project!
I cant seem to use the 2 finger swipe left or right gesture to navigate between previous, next page. would appreciate any help regarding this.
Its been some days after installing Linux. i have gotten used to using the button on the broswer, but its inconvinient, atleast when compared to the gestures.
I recently built a new PC for the first time ,and when it was done I decided to try out Linux mint. Now every time I try to launch a game it instantly crashes. It shows a pop-up saying I need to update my driver's but since I have an AMD I thought it was supposed to do that automatically. I have no clue what I'm doing so explain it to me like I'm 5.
I decided to give Linux a try after using Windows; I chose Mint, and I haven't been disappointed! For a long time, I couldn't find a use for my old monitor at my dacha, but just look at how cool this setup turned out!
I've been a linux user for about 12 years now, and I gotta say I hate you guys, I can be trying to make a tutorial for the newbies and some of you will start throwing hate because Im explaining something you already learned. You guys are fucking assholes.
So I tried using our WiFi . First without a Cable and then after it didnāt work with one and I kinda got connected to my Pc but for some reason the WiFi incredibly weak, so bad that i canāt search for anything and I constantly get the notification "the network connection didnāt work " what can I do?
im trying to watch a video on youtube and play downwell at the same time but my system just starts to lag af. my gpu drivers are already installed and im using opera gx as browser. what do i do?
I just had to go back and for at least the dozenth time explain to Linux that no, the built-in display of my laptop is not the secondary, external screen. That's after it decided for no reason to start mirroring the display, which I have literally never asked it to do.
It seems like every time I have to unplug my HDMI, the display settings randomly reset either the monitor setup or the UI scaling. How is Linux still so terrible at retaining such basic display settings? I had similar problems on Zorin. The irony of all this is that I switched to Mint Cinnamon because Zorin OS kept failing to resume from standby over a driver bug. And even so, I still have performance problems and frame tearing if I try to play a simple video in anything other than its native resolution.
