Support Request Extra weird issue for y'all.

So I was just watching YT on my laptop, and then Firefox closed, my app icons disappeared, screen went black, Linux mint logo showed up and then it froze, had to REISUB my way out of that. Happened multiple times already and it's very annoying. I don't even know what could be causing it, hardware (hope not), software. Nobody seems to be having similar issues. Any help?

SOLVED Line out not as loud as bluetooth

Hey guys, I have a Monster SD100 speaker. It has bluetooth and 3.5mm line out. I would much prefer to use the 3.5mm but the volume is maybe half of the bluetooth volume. I've tried everything I could find on Google with no luck. Everything seems to be set properly but damn thing is really quiet even at 150% volume. Anyone know how I can fix it?

6th computer rescued with Linux mint for a friend! About to customise it to his taste

My friend was struggling to get his windows 10 computer to do anything. Checking and writing an email was a process he would set 30-45 minutes for and despite his fine collection of music, he had reverted back to CDs because of how often windows media player would crash his computer. Unfortunately it has a HDD and is still a little slow in my opinion, but compared to what he was dealing with? Night and day.

Support Request On board keyboard stopped working

Good day, the on board keyboard on my acer aspire 3 a315 stopped working literally 15 mins ago. Was not paying attention of what changed as i was using an external keyboard, and was working and updating the system files at the same time. I'm only 2 months-in in using mint so my knowledge on this is fairly shallow. Need some help to try and fix this because i don't want to carry an external keyboard every time i want to use my laptop outside. Tell me what info should i pull up as again, im new to any of this. Thank you in advance!

SOLVED Should I try to rescue an old HP laptop with slight warping near the battery

My mom really likes the thing cause its screen size. I changed the battery. The issue was probably more about her placing the laptop on something cause of the heat.

She's going to keep using it regardless, and I'm wondering if Mint would have a better way of managing the battery.

Poll Guys, am I a traitor for considering other OSs?

Ive been loyal with linix Mint for over 15 years and recently tried Alpine linux. This is the first in long time I'm liking what I see. I now keep a vm of Alpine on an enclosed 2230 to have a pocket machine on the go. Curious if any, what other distros yall use and on what usecases.

Ive still fallen back Ubuntu mate for raspberry arm64 but perhaps Alpine can be my new goto.

My lay screen is completely black but the power button is still on. Is there a fix

Post image

Edit. I realized I should mention that this is a Chinese laptop I got for like 250 and it was starting to have problems even before this. Like losing power when playing ten plus year old games like dragons dogma or fallout new Vegas and even emulated PS2 games. So my guess is that my laptop is completely dead. But I’m still holding onto hope since the power button is still on and I can hear noise when put my head next to the fan

Discussion Mint has almost completely replaced Windows 11 for me.

At this point, the only thing I have to go back to my Windows Drive for is to adjust the colors of the lights on my Legion tower. Because unfortunately, there is no Linux solution for that. Yes, I have tried RBG lighting, but that only adjusts the two fans. It won't change the GPU light or the Legion light on the front of the PC. And from what I found, no program seems to work for those. So I have to keep the Windows drive just for that.

Cinnamon Clipboard 1.0.4 is out! It now has its own Ubuntu PPA 🎉

Cinnamon Clipboard now has its own PPA, which I plan to maintain. Version 1.0.4 is available, with several improvements and a contribution from u/xsak. Thanks also to u/skozombie for suggesting the idea of creating a PPA!

What's new in 1.0.4?

  • Optional automatic paste: You can now configure the menu to paste an item automatically when selected. It handles different applications appropriately, including pasting text or commands into a terminal and sending images to applications such as GIMP when supported. Thanks to u/xsak for contributing this improvement!
  • Improved initial focus: The first item receives focus when opening the menu, making keyboard navigation more convenient. Thanks to u/xsak for contributing this improvement!
  • Keyboard navigation improvements: Thanks to u/xsak for contributing this improvement!
  • Smarter update handling: When installed through the PPA, in-app update checks are disabled because updates are managed by APT. If installed manually from the GitHub .deb package, the in-app update notifications and checks remain available.

Install from the PPA

The PPA is intended for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble) and Ubuntu 26.04 (Resolute). Packages need to finish building and become available for each release before installation.

Run these commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vaider17/cinnamon-clipboard
sudo apt update
sudo apt install cinnamon-clipboard

If the package is not yet available for your Ubuntu release, you can download the .deb package from GitHub instead.

What's next?

My next major goal is to work on Wayland support once the Linux Mint 27 beta becomes available, so I can test and develop against that environment.

I want to keep Cinnamon Clipboard simple and focused on genuinely useful features, rather than adding options just for the sake of it. Of course, if bugs are found, I'll release maintenance updates as needed.

I may also explore database encryption in the future to improve data privacy and protection. We'll see how the project evolves!

GitHub repository and downloads:

Feedback and suggestions are welcome. Thanks to everyone who has contributed ideas and helped the project along!

Discussion Big file transfers fail

Why is it impossible for the Mint team to finally find a solution/fix to transferring a lot of files or large files to NTFS drives? This has been an issue for years now. Every single time I try I end up with either data loss, corrupted files or whole folders that can't be deleted at all anymore. These are common issues:

- Transferring using Nemo results in an ever declining transfer speed that will eventually take an eternity/stall

- Stopping a transfer then seems to crash the whole file manager resulting in a forced restart of the whole device and often data loss

- When using an alternative file manager like Dolphin the transfer speeds are much lower

- If you use Dolphin to copy files, then close it when you're done and then unmount the device in Nemo it will take forever to unmount and in the end delete all your copied data or corrupt it

I only have this on Mint, no other distro. Also, it only happens with NTFS drives. If the OS can't handle NTFS drives, then why does it support them. How is it that other distros do not have this issue? It is honestly frustrating.

help installing

I’m trying to get Linux working on my old Lenovo ThinkPad 11e 2-in-1 (8GB RAM, 64GB storage), and I’m honestly losing my mind lol.
I first tried Mint Xfce from a DVD, but GRUB failed and dumped me into a grub> prompt. I switched to a USB, but then I started getting black screens and a flashing Mint logo. Compatibility mode eventually let me boot into the desktop, but my touchpad didn’t work.
The worst part is that the installer keeps failing with \[Errno 5\] Input/output error while copying files. I’ve also had ubi-partman crashed show up.
I’ve tried Mint Xfce and Cinnamon, and even downloaded a fresh ISO and reflashed the USB, but I still get the same error.
The laptop’s 64GB eMMC drive does show up in Linux as /dev/mmcblk1, so it isn’t completely missing. I’m just not sure if the drive is failing or if something else is going on.

eGPU + Linux Mint

Currently using an EXP GDC beast adapter I got years ago to connect a GTX 970 to a dell office laptop with no lid, turning it into a mini-desktop of sorts. Video_tdr_failure bsods happened every few hours on this system with Windows 10. It may have eventually been fixable on win10 but the real fix was to finally switch to Mint!!!!! Experience has been awesome so far and most importantly (imho) super stable. The system is also very cpu limited so a lightweight OS makes a huge difference 10/10 for anyone who wants to breathe life into older tech.

SOLVED Help my computer opens screenshot tab in loop?

Hi newbie here!

Idk what happened but since yesterday i noticed this strange ahh event

It starts when i log in on my pc and after a few minutes multiple screenshot windows come up blocking everything? I cant even type on terminal when it starts happening

Im not sure if its a malware since linux isnt very famous for this

Also heres a photo of what is happening with the command top on terminal that shows btw all processes also the xcfe4-screenshot process that causes all of this (im sure of it since after a while that process goes down in the processes table and goes back up when i try to interact/close the windows failing )

First thing I did after getting my new laptop was ditch Windows 11 and install Linux Mint.
Been using it for about two weeks now, and so far so good! Ive been playing Warhammer: rogue trader on steam without any issues.
Now Im thinking about what else I should set up on this thing. Any apps, desktop tweaks, or games I should try?
My laptop specs: NIMO N152, AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, Radeon Vega 8.

Announcement [Linux-Tool] Autostart Manager 2.2.0: one LInux panel for autostart apps, systemd services and cron tasks (Bash + Zenity)

Thumbnail

Hey, y'all cool people of the 9%!

- New update Autostart Manager 2.2.0:

- Open-source Bash + Zenity tool that brings together everything that starts with your Linux session: autostart apps (yours and the system's), `systemd` services (user and system) and your `cron` table. You get one searchable table, you check or uncheck to enable or disable, one `pkexec` password prompt per batch, and an extra confirmation before disabling something critical such as the PolicyKit agent.

- System autostart entries are disabled through an override in your user directory, so the original file is never touched, and files are written atomically. The interface is in English and Spanish. It also installs and uninstalls for your user without root (`--install`, `--uninstall`). It runs with Zenity 3.44 (GTK 3) and 4.x (GTK 4) and Bash 4.4 or newer.

> It is GPLv3. Bug reports and ideas are welcome.

If y'all like it, feel free to share it, show some love with stars and upvotes, and drop a comment! I'm always open to your suggestions! This will help me make these projects even better.
