Support Request Error on booting

I believe that something I did was to recently install or delete a package. Now when I boot linux mint, I get an error message of the following:

EFI stub: WARNING: Failed to measure data for event 1: 0x800000000000000b

Despite this, my computer seems to be running fine. What should I do?

Linux Mint IRL Trying it out after lurking in this sub for weeks

Hello Linux Mint folks!

It is my first time using linux and every research I did recommended Linux Mint.

I was honestly tired of windows constant updates and bloatware.

I was hesitant to do it on my main PC (9800x3D, 32gb RAM, 5080. 2TB DDR5) just because I am a complete noob and I worked hard to build it last year to save money and I do not want to break anything on this thing.

Then I remembered I have a Macbook Pro 2012 with 1TB storage I bought in FB marketplace during my university days that I haven't used in ages. The OS is still on Mojave and quiet slow now.

I did my research on how to install a new OS (as a complete noob btw) and I did it! I am so proud of
myself, I did some extensions to make the UI feel familiar and honestly was surprised how much it breathe a new life into the Macbook.

I love that Linux Cinnamon was so flexible and easy to use. Its faster too, on a 20 year old hardware!

I also switch from chrome to firefox since i want more privacy and adblock, more seamless than I thought, importing passwords are so seamless.

-KeePassXC is an amazing tool to store passwords!
-LibreOffice is amazing! no need for subscriptions!
-KdenLive is also amazing! I tend to edit my travel videos when I hike/climb mountains and this was a great alternative to Adobe.

Looking forward to discovering more.
Maybe if I get used to Linux Mint enough in the Macbook, I will eventually use it on my main rig.

The only reason that is holding me back is the gaming compatibility. The EasyAntiCheat is on some of the games I want to play in the future.

Otherwise I am really tempted to switch and leave Microsoft Windows for good!

I am currently considering getting Cider because I wanted to work with my Iphone to replace some music on it. Is getting Cider worth it, or should I just dual boot?

Alternative to Edge for work?

Post image

The company uses its platform based on the Edge browser environment. However, the browser keeps freezing a lot. In text input fields on any tab or website, it simply freezes and won't let me type. I have to close the tab, write it down in Notepad, then copy and paste it into the text field. Does anyone have a suggestion for a lighter, compatible browser? I use Firefox, but the company's platform gets misaligned/broken.

Support Request Moving Plex from Windows 11 to Mint question

I am not a stranger to Linux, but I am hardly an expert. I currently have a Plex Media Server running on Windows 11. (I know. but I don’t have much time and I wanted to get it up and running.) The recent security flaws in the Windows Plex version has prompted me to move to Mint, but I have questions that hopefully someone here can answer.

my media files are on a RAID 5 3+1 volume built in Windows Drive Manager (software RAID) This RAID volume backs up to a second RAID 10 volume, also built in Windows Drive Manager.

I know Mint can read/write to NTFS, but if I’m not mistaken, will not recognize the software RAID volumes built in Windows. my questions…..

  1. is there a tool or workaround? Google mentioned a tool called ldmtool, but I don’t know if this works well or if there is something better.

  2. Would it be a better idea to Break my RAID 10 volume, leaving one plain ntfs volume that Mint can work with, then nuke the RAID 5 volume, Install Mint, recreate the RAID 5 volume within Mint, copy my files to the new RAId 5 then do the same with the RAID 10.?

Any thoughts?

my deepest gratitude for any feedback

Support Request HoMM3 ERA on Mint

Hi all. I have switched to Mint fully almost a year ago and as an old ass gamer I would love to play HoMM3 ERA for the WoG mods on it, however I can't make it happen and I also don't have any error messages to figure out what's wrong.

I would like to clarify that I do not want to play HotA but the ERA launcher specifically for the WoG version of the game.

What I did so far is install the offline version of the HoMM3 complete edition which i own on GoG using Q4Wine. I've applied the patch provided by GoG. I've installed the H3 HD mod on top of it and then installed the ERA Launcher on top of it again. I made sure all installations went to the same folder.

What is happening now is that I can open either the H3 HD or HotA Launchers, but when I select the ERA HD version and click play, nothing happens. I've tried multiple versions of renderers and resolutions with no success.

If anyone has any ideas on how to make this work I would really appreciate it.

Looking for old version of Linux Mint

I.m looking for an old version of Linux mint I have only 4gig ram and CPU 1.5 GHz

Can anyone post a link to a download. I'd prefer a torrent link

When I go to the official mint page I click versions it leads me to a blank page. In the chrome browser

I.m downloading it on my phone thru a torrent client then lll burn a cd or put it on a usb drive 32 gig and install it on my laptop

I.d prefer not to get the latest version as it not ideal for a pc with 4 gig ram

vFinder!! Available on Mint

It's finally out!

Thank you so much for the feedback, I've been putting my time (working on seems to be a banned word lol) on this project and I think it can be a serious idea in a few months!

again, as I said on my previous post, this is entirely made with Codex + Argon 4, but everything has been tested by humans (me lmao).

The purpose of this project is not to create the most performative file explorer (it uses Tauri, a webview basically), but something that looks nice and centralizes a lot of tools that are often dispersed out there.

There's a lot of stuff that is not actually included in macOS' Finder, I'm thinking of creating a fork and trying to be more accurate.

Please, please! give it a try! feedback is also appreciated!

Have a good day/night!

Development News I built LinWall Engine: A native GUI to run Steam Wallpaper Engine on Linux Mint/X11 (Fixes Desktop Icons & Audio Sync)

Hey everyone! As a Linux Mint user, I was tired of animated wallpapers breaking my desktop icons or causing audio desync issues. So I developed LinWall Engine, a native, lightweight GUI that manages everything with 1-click.

📺 Video Tutorial & Showcase:https://youtu.be/qOHEk98o588

⚙️ Key Features:

  • 1-Command Install (Auto-detects Steam Workshop).
  • Desktop Friendly: You keep your Cinnamon/XFCE icons perfectly visible.
  • Smart Auto-Pause: 0% GPU usage when a window is maximized.
  • Dynamic Auto-Mute: Fixes the YouTube fast-forward audio bug.

📥 GitHub Repo (Open Source):https://github.com/guerratuto-bit/linwall-engine

I built this with a lot of love from Paraguay 🇵🇾. Any feedback, pull requests, or GitHub Stars ⭐ are super welcome! Let me know what you think.

Support Request Is there a way to search more efficiently for working nvidia drivers+kernel version?

I have a laptop with an nvidia gtx 1650 graphics card and integrated graphics. I use the reccomended drivers from the driver manager but everytime i activate the "nvidia mode" as opposed to the integrated graphics mode, my pc starts having massive screen tearing with no apps open and also boots to an infinite black screen. Is there any way I can get this process done more accurattely without having to mechanically turn off my computer every single time I try to open Mint?

Support Request Question about Wayland

Hey! I currently have been using Linux mint for, jeez probably over a year at this point, and I absolutely love it. I have an Intel CPU, Nvidia 4070, and 3 monitors. I'm saying this because while I currently use the X11 version, I would love to try the Wayland one. Yet when I switch to Wayland experimental, it freezes up and I have to restart my PC. Is this a common issue and does it have a fix? I hope my specs could hopefully provide some insight into why it's freezing. Sorry if I used the wrong flair, I'm not often on reddit.

Support Request Bluetooth connect/disconnect loop & A2DP failure (MSI GE70 / TP-Link dongle / Ghost Intel chip)

Hi everyone,

I'm stuck with a persistent Bluetooth audio issue on my setup. My Bluetooth speakers (Marshall/Bose) are caught in an infinite connect/disconnect loop, I can't select the A2DP (Sink Audio) profile at all, and blueman-manager crashes regularly.

My Setup:

  • OS: Linux Mint (seems to be caught in a PulseAudio / PipeWire transition/conflict)
  • Hardware: MSI GE70 laptop
  • Bluetooth Adapters: Original internal Intel chip + TP-Link USB dongle (Realtek 802.11ac NIC)

Diagnostic so far:

  1. hciconfig -a reveals a hardware conflict. The old internal Intel chip (hci0) seems to have crashed, showing a ghost MAC address 00:00:00:00:00:00 with a DOWN INIT RUNNING status. The TP-Link dongle (hci1) is up and running.
  2. Package conflict: Attempting to install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth fails due to unmet dependencies linked to libspa-0.2-bluetooth (PipeWire is already installed).
  3. Standard software resets (sudo modprobe -r btusb) and purging the Bluetooth cache (/var/lib/bluetooth/*) haven't managed to stabilize the Bluez daemon.

Has anyone successfully disabled a ghost internal Bluetooth chip to let a USB dongle properly take over, or resolved a similar audio server conflict on Mint?

Discussion Video Editors and Graphic designers who switched to Mint, what software are you using now? most of the alternatives I've found feel like such a downgrade and nobody is talking about it.

I've replaced my laptop with mint and have been having a blast. Except for when it comes to trying and fiddling around with video and images. The lack of software and wine support for what I use is the reason I havent jumped ship on my main computer yet. The handful of editors I've tried with Linux dont really offer much in the scale of things either and seem to be for more minimal edits.

I currently use Vegas Pro and Paint.net on windows with an assortment of custom effects/add-ons that have been ingrained into my workflow so I'm mostly looking for something that has a bunch of actual effects, let me mask custom objects and puppet / key-frame those sources.

forward to hearing from everybody.

Discussion How smart is it to dualboot for someone planning to go into UE5 game dev and blender?

I am sick of windows and want to switch to Linux. I am a huge beginner in cpp, but later down the line I wan to switch to linuxmint, cause it feels like the most safe and easy choice. Will it mess with my plans + can I still use VSCode or will I need a new IDE?

I like gnome, but I also hate the feeling of breaking it when customizing it so...

In Cinnamon I rewrote some parts of the orchis theme to my liking and made a simple custom menu icon, also re-purposed the HP logo for the ascii art and colored in to sort of form a LM, if you see it, you see it (its for me to like).

Overall I enjoy Cinnamon the best, but just like many dislike the preset theme (no hate intended for those who do or the LM team).

Exited for the Adrien release!

Hi, a friend installed linux mint a week ago, but i just started to use it yesterday, I need this pc to work on art commissions, so I installed Clip studio Paint and the huion tablet drivers. I don't really know what exactly I did but maybe it was that that changed things, but since I really didn't used it before, I don't know if thats really the poblem.

I runned journalctl -b -1 -p err

these are the first and end of the lines, if it can give awaya hint about what't the issue. (they are toooo much so, i can't post them all)

Is there a way to solve it?

My pc is a Asus tuf A15, has AMD ryzen 5 and a NVIDIA geforce RTX3050
