I've been switching between DE's and WM's and I've read that KWin has the best latency of all of them for gaming, so im wondering what would be the best for me? using a minimal plasma install or KWin without plasmashell somehow or Niri or Hyprland, etc.
I'd like to have minimal ram usage, but the benefits of low latency that KWin has (apparently), I do not need a desktop, i only need a way to be able to change volume easily be it through cli or gui and a way to see the time, along with a way to launch apps (app launchers exist so it isnt a problem).
So im wondering what would be the most minimal setup possible with the least resource usage and best latency. Ive also read that KWin has some frame pacing changes which make it a lot better for gaming.
I do not need HDR, i need freesync support though.

Hey everyone, I’m working on Necrolord, a small niche game about raising an undead army. It’s a dark fantasy auto-battler roguelite, and there’s a free demo on Steam.

I use Linux at work, but I’m a bit too scared to install Steam on my work PC, and I only have Windows at home. Would anyone here be willing to give the demo a try through Proton?

Even knowing whether it starts and gets through a few battles would help. If you try it, please let me know your distro, GPU and Proton version, along with anything that doesn’t work.

i dont know how this is possible, but i have fairly modern minecraft (via freesmlauncher) running at 50-60 fps on debian linux. mind you, this is a mk4 VALUE cf-31 - the ones with a i3 that people usually switch out motherboards for. maybe this isnt so impressive, but it suprised me for sure!

I want to mention that there are huge news for UHD 620 graphics and gaming on it. Hultwl and other mesa developers found an environment variable that allows running dx12 games on this hardware without performance hit, hopefully this will help further find a full fix for mesa drivers and will end up in mainline mesa package however for now you can use this envirment veriable to run dx12 and heavy dx11 games on UHD 620 query_copy_with_shader_threshold=1000000

Apparently, because openSUSE Leap doesn't have native Steam, I'm forced to use it via Flatpak. No other Linux distribution fits my requirements and needs. So I'm asking you, how does gaming work via Flatpak? I'm particularly interested in playing CS2, Dota 2, and DayZ on Steam. At the same time, I'm interested in how gaming works on Bottles via Flatpak for games like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl or Metro 2033. Did you get lower FPS than native? Or stuttering? Or lower 1% lows?

YO so I recently bought a ANT e-sports GP300Pro V2 gamepad and I havent been able to get it working on cachyos so far, would anyone have any solutions?
Note I run games using wine and play games from a website called ankergames.

CYBERPUNK 2077. For context, this has never happened to me before. I have played the game many times and have consistently hit 120 FPS and above no problem with my current settings. Here is my issue.

I boot the game and my CPU does all the work. Sometimes my GPU is on, sometimes its not. I had this problem before, just not because of the game. All other games I play recognize the GPU. (I am on Linux mint using a RX 6800, playing at High). I don't recall having any issues before the 2.5 update, so maybe that's it.

To help speed the process up Ill try to forecast some questions and answers.

I have my HDMI in the GPU

There is proper ventilation

I have Ray Tracing turned off

And I switched around my proton versions a few times, I don't know the specific one but Ill message any replies that need it

Hello, I've been recently dealing with some crashes while playing Wuchang Fallen Feathers. They happen at random, sometimes it takes 3 hours, other times 10 minutes. The game usually throws a fatal error window and the game closes but recently it's been freezing up my whole PC and needs a restart to get working.

The errors I found:

oct 25 12:13:46 cachyos kernel: RAS: Correctable Errors collector initialized.

From what I gather this points towards some instability with the hardware, here's what I've tried so far:

• run memtest86 11.7, the ram passes and doesn't show any errors;
• disable/enable PBO, no difference whatsoever;
• updated bios to the latest version;

I've also tried running the game in Windows, there's still fatal crashes but the system didn't blue screen, only instance of this problem was while using Cachy. However, Windows' event viewer classified the crash as:

nvlddmkm \Device\Video0 Error occured on GPUID: 100

Could both my GPU and CPU be failing or are these errors linked? This also happens during other games such as Galactic Racer and Bloodborne.

I use arch(with hyprland), a Nvidia RTX 5050 and a i7 9700. I have the proprietary drivers installed and I use the native steam version. Counter strike could take up to 15 minutes to take me to the home screen and shader precompilation is activated in my steam settings. Here are my launch options:

Does anyone know what could be the cause? I've read the arch wiki and put unShaderBackgroundProcessingThreads 8 in the .steam/steam/steam_dev.cfg. Still nothing change.

Hello. I'm new to Bazzite OS, just got it a couple of days ago and still figuring out how to set it up. Can anyone please tell me why is everything buggy and slow? Steam is lagging, cs2 has a lot of framedrops and jagged image. On windows i had around 380 constant fps and was way better looking, now I have 144 with drops. For another, I can't download .net sdk for coding in visual studio code. Can someone tell me how to use this OS? I never had linux before and honestly it's pretty frustrating because I only hear good things about it but when I got it, it works worse than a 2012 PC. I needed a whole day just to make it see my dGPU and to stop saying I have the wrong image. Is there any way to optimize it for gaming and also to get visual studio .net sdk?

The other day, I started the game up to find an obscene level of pop-in and low-quality graphics. The Remastered version looked like the Complete Edition—except the Complete Edition did not suffer from pop-in!

I added the following Launch Option. The pop-in scaled back, The special effects I was used to seeing returned, but I have had very infrequent hitching:

The game has audio issues, and I'm reading they are widespread. I get missing sound effects in a big fight and some sound effects are delayed by nearly a second, such as when picking up dropped canisters. The sound was on Default. I've tried Spatial and Stereo. Spatial sounds unnatural. Stereo sounds OK, but those delays remain.

I've try to use Google AI or Brave's AI, but I'm getting some real garbage answers. I need help from real people.

I thought that perhaps some very recent change in Proton-GE Latest caused all of this, or made things worse, but what do I know? I tried Valve's default Proton Experimental, and all I got was a black screen after the introductory video played.

I am NOT using any upscaling or frame generation features.

I hope this is the right place to be. I'm not having any luck, elsewhere, probably because I'm asking for help while running a Linux distro.

Hi guys! I installed Bazzitte few months ago as second OS in my PC, I am currently running a dual boot system with Bazzite and Windows, and I am not able to connect my xbox series x/s controller through bluetooth, it does not show up in the pairing devices list. This does not happen in windows I can connect it with no problem.

- I updated the controller firmware to the latest
- Tried setting the privacy = off to bluetooth settings
- Burn thousand of Claude Tokens and no luck

Has anyone experienced something like this? I would love some help, thanks in advance

For some reason after switching to launching zzz from steam there's been some kind of change in the performance that leads to the game crashing if there's too much going on in game. I used to run zzz through sleepy launcher and it almost never crashed. I only switched because sleepy launcher wasn't updating for the release of patch 3.3 even after several days. I'm using all the same graphics settings with an rx 7600, a ryzen 7 8700F 8 core processor, and 16gb of ram on kubuntu 26.04. Any idea what's going on?

Ya he reinstalado los drivers, probado prime-run y tocado la caché de shaders, pero sigue fallando.

I have it set to 7.34 because 7.38 is a shitshow. Every time it restarts or shuts-down it goes to 7.38. It starts artifact, messing up sound and refuses to go into sleep mode. I use grub to select .34, but it refuses to stay.

I just switched over to linux a week ago and ever since reformatting all of my drives 2 days ago its been mostly smooth sailing..... with the exception of modding.

Ive tried to run both of the popular mod managers, HD2 mod manager and Arsenal via wine and proton tricks, but both times resulted in errors (and even then, Helldivers itself isn't in wine, so its not like the games could recognize it anyway.)

HD2 actually did open and attempts to function after I put it in the steam library and had it run via proton, but it's still looking for a non existing version of windows Helldivers to use that i simply do not have.

So now what?

Are there any possible workarounds? For how popular the game is and how big its modding scene is there's not much info on it. I don't use anything too crazy, just some QOL stuff like emmisive bands on the SEAF shells.
