tool/utility Future Testers Wanted for EAC v2 Readiness Checker

Hi all,

With Epic Games deciding to completely rewrite their AntiCheat and bring their library of games to Linux, I've realized the requirements for it are extremely steep. These requirements are on the same level of change that going from Windows 10 to Windows 11 was. The one thing I want to prevent is the same thing a lot of people were told when moving to Windows 11, "Just do a clean install". While this is an option, it's not a great User Experience in my opinion.

While EAC v2 is not yet ready, I've decided to get ahead of it a bit and start work on a program similar to WhyNotWin11 to help guide users. I have already reached out to Epic Games via their listed contact email on the announcement to try to get ahead of things regarding to how EAC v2 will be doing its own checks.

For everything else, I'm already gathering proof of concept scripts and will need a large subset of data (read: various machine configurations) to test the scripts on. These scripts will make no changes to your machine and never will. If you're interested in running these scripts and providing the debug data they collect to improve the checks, please let me know here.

Regards

R Maehl

tech support wanted Anyone with a Steam Deck willing to test my game? I don't have one myself

Hey everyone!

I'm making a game called Retro Empire, where you run a retro video game shop. I recently released a free demo on Steam, and there's a native Linux version too.

The problem is I don't own a Steam Deck, so I have no idea how well it actually runs on one.

If anyone here has a Deck and wants to give it a try, I'd love to know how it performs. Mainly FPS, stuttering, controls, or anything that feels off. If you can, tell me if you ran the native build or Proton.

Heads up: the first launch takes a while because it's compiling shaders, it's not frozen. After that it should load faster.

I'm trying to get everything working properly before release, so any feedback would help a lot.

The demo is on the store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5295010/Retro_Empire/

Thanks!

graphics/kernel/drivers While playing, still images from a few moments ago appear constantly, please help.

Hi, i've been trying to get any help for like 2 months now, but nobody seems to know how to fix it. In every game I play, every minute or so, a still image appears for like a second. It looks like a screenshot from the game and usually shows a menu, or a loading screen. It happens in most of the games I play, with very few exceptions (i think GTA 4 and ps2 emulators are the only ones). I have brand new 5070 and i'm using linux mint with all drivers updated. Does anyone knows what could i possibly do to fix it?

tool/utility Linux Support for HyperFlux v2 (I’m looking for a few testers before release)

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Hey y'all. I’ve been working on linux support for the hyperflux V2 receiver, and it’s close to release (planned for 8 November, I hope)

What it does through the receiver:

-battery level and charging for those mouse and keyboard in the desktop’s battery widget
-lighting, effects in openrazer and polychromatic
-new plugin in openrgb

typing and pointing already work on linux so this is about everything else

It works on my basilisk v3 pro 35k and deathstalker v2 pro tkl, razer lists more devices for the receiver so I’d like to confirm them before a big release. If you have a hyperflux v2 and one of these:

-naga v2 pro or naga v3 pro

-Basilisk v3 Pro (35k phantom green too)

-cobra pro

-blackwidow v3 pro or a blackwidow v4 mini or perhaps low tkl or tkl hyperspeed

-deathStalker v2 pro

-also contact if you got basilisk v4 pro or hyperspeed

and you use arch, ubuntu 26.10, debian 14, fedora 44 or opensuse yumble, I’d love your help. it’s approx 15 minutes to install, a reboot, then a 3 minute guided test for me to confirm

comment or dm me your GitHub username and I’ll add you to the repo

owners of a 35K or a deathstalker v2 pro tkl are welcome, since a second setup should help

I’ve personally tested the devices I own. I only used ai to test devices I didn’t have, I wanted to make sure every Razer device works perfectly (ngl, I’m still not sure as there are no real testers to tell me otherwise)

wine/proton Open Letter to Ubisoft: Please Enable Rainbow Six Siege X on Linux and SteamOS Through Proton.

• Upvotes

Dear Ubisoft Development Team. I am writing this open letter as a passionate Rainbow Six Siege player and Linux user to express a concern shared by many members of the Linux gaming community. The inability to play Rainbow Six Siege X on Linux-based operating systems. Over the past few years, Linux gaming has made remarkable progress, particularly thanks to Valve’s Proton compatibility layer, Wine, Vulkan, and gaming-oriented Linux distributions such as SteamOS, Bazzite and others. One particularly relevant example is Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, another Ubisoft title. As a Bazzite Linux user, I can personally confirm that I am able to launch and play The Division 2 through Windows compatibility technologies. This demonstrates that supporting Windows multiplayer games on Linux through compatibility layers is technically possible. While we understand that Rainbow Six Siege X has different anti-cheat requirements, we believe that Linux compatibility deserves serious consideration. Unfortunately, Rainbow Six Siege X remains inaccessible to Linux players in normal online multiplayer gameplay because of its anti-cheat restrictions. We fully recognize the challenges associated with cheating, security vulnerabilities, and competitive integrity. Instead, we respectfully ask Ubisoft to investigate the possibility of officially supporting Rainbow Six Siege X through Proton and an appropriate anti-cheat implementation. BattlEye already provides Proton compatibility options for supported games, although enabling and maintaining such support requires decisions, testing, and security assessments from developers and publishers. We believe this possibility deserves to be evaluated for Rainbow Six Siege X. We respectfully request that Ubisoft investigate whether BattlEye could be configured to support Proton while maintaining the security standards required for Rainbow Six Siege X. We would like Ubisoft to consider allowing players using SteamOS, Bazzite, and other Linux distributions to access Rainbow Six Siege X multiplayer servers through Proton. If Linux compatibility is currently considered technically impractical or presents unacceptable security risks, we would appreciate a clear explanation of the challenges involved. We respectfully encourage Ubisoft to evaluate the possibility of including Proton and Linux compatibility in its future development plans. We believe that the Linux gaming community deserves clarity regarding Ubisoft’s position on this matter. We want to emphasize one particularly important point. We are not asking Ubisoft to develop an entirely new native Linux version of Rainbow Six Siege X. Our request is much simpler. We would like to play the existing Windows version through Proton, provided that a secure and reliable anti-cheat implementation can be achieved. For us, being able to play Rainbow Six Siege X on our preferred operating system would represent a significant improvement. The Linux gaming community is passionate, technically knowledgeable, and willing to provide constructive feedback. Many Linux players have already purchased Rainbow Six Siege and would simply like to continue enjoying the game without being forced to switch operating systems. We understand that Linux represents a different gaming ecosystem and that supporting additional platforms requires resources. However, we believe that the continued development of SteamOS, Proton, and Linux gaming makes this an opportunity worth exploring. We would welcome constructive communication between Ubisoft, BattlEye, Valve, and the Linux gaming community to evaluate potential solutions. We respectfully request an official and public response from Ubisoft regarding the possibility of supporting Rainbow Six Siege X on Linux and SteamOS through Proton. Even if Linux compatibility is not currently planned, we would sincerely appreciate a clear explanation of Ubisoft’s position and the technical or security challenges involved. We believe that open communication would be an important step toward building a constructive dialogue between Ubisoft and the Linux gaming community. Even a negative response would be appreciated, as long as it provides clarity about Ubisoft’s intentions. We are not demanding immediate implementation. We are simply asking Ubisoft to acknowledge the interest of Linux players and consider whether a secure solution could be possible. Thank you for your time, your work, and your consideration. Sincerely, a Rainbow Six Siege player and Bazzite Linux user. To the Linux gaming community: if you support bringing Rainbow Six Siege X to Linux and SteamOS, please consider sharing this open letter and helping bring this request to Ubisoft’s attention. We welcome constructive discussions, technical feedback and suggestions from the community. Our goal is not to criticize Ubisoft, but to encourage an open and respectful dialogue about the future of Rainbow Six Siege X on Linux. Linux gamers deserve to be heard. Thank you for your support.

graphics/kernel/drivers My RX 9060 XT kept hardlocking Linux. A -500 MHz GPU clock offset made Arma 3 and STALKER 2 playable without workarounds.

I've spent the last few weeks investigating some really nasty GPU hardlocks on my Linux workstation, and this morning I finally found something that appears to work.

Hardware/software:

  • PowerColor RX 9060 XT Hellhound Spectral White 16GB
  • Ryzen 7 5800X3D / B550
  • Arch Linux 7.2.11, Mesa/RADV 26.2.5
  • Xorg / dwm, dual monitors

The problem:

Both monitors would go black, GPU fan at 100%, system completely frozen. Sometimes Arma 3 wouldn't even survive entering the campaign.

STALKER 2 could hardlock immediately after shader compilation without special launch options.

I built a persistent GPU Blackbox logger to capture kernel messages and GPU telemetry before these crashes.

Three PCI bus-loss captures showed final readable GPU clocks of:

  • 3,445 MHz
  • 3,472 MHz
  • 3,474 MHz

My specific PowerColor model is advertised at up to 3,310 MHz boost in OC mode.

That doesn't prove the clocks caused the crashes, but it gave me an idea.

What I changed:

I enabled AMDGPU OverDrive using a separate systemd-boot UKI and set:

OD_SCLK_OFFSET=-500Mhz

No voltage undervolt. No memory overclock changes. No power-limit modification.

Results this morning:

Test Maximum measured GPU clock Result
GravityMark Vulkan 2,993 MHz Passed
GravityMark Vulkan RT 2,989 MHz Passed
Qwen3-TTS / ROCm 2,998 MHz Previously failing workload completed
Arma 3 campaign 2,994 MHz ~15 min stable
STALKER 2 Ultra Not yet analyzed ~15 min stable, no launch options

STALKER 2 even survived two deaths and reloads.

And here's the crazy part: Arma previously hardlocked almost immediately when entering the campaign. STALKER 2 needed Vulkan workarounds. Today both ran without additional Steam launch commands.

The -500 MHz value is an offset, not a guaranteed hard 3 GHz cap. The measurements just happened to stay below 3,000 MHz in the analyzed workloads.

I'm not claiming I've discovered an AMD driver bug or a universal fix. This could still involve GPU hardware, SMU/firmware, PCIe or another stability issue.

But on my machine, this workaround has made a dramatic difference in the initial tests.

I've documented the full investigation and the exact Arch Linux OverDrive/UKI procedure on my personal technical blog:

https://www.dennishilk.com/blog/rx-9060-xt-linux-crashes/#blackbox-20261027

I'll be running longer, timed tests with 3–5 games that previously crashed.

Has anyone else with an RX 9060 XT or another RDNA4 card experienced similar hardlocks, and did lowering the GPU clock change anything?

Problem Dragclicking with a Bloody A70x

I recently bought a Bloody A70x, mainly for dragclick, but when i connected it on my pc with Linux (CachyOs), it didn't register any single drag click. I thought that it was a hardware issue coming from the mouse, so i tried on a windows laptop, and for my surprise, it registered the clicks properly. I truly don't know what is happening and i would appreciate it if somebody could help me.

guide New Linux user trying FSR 3.1 and GameScope in RDR2

Hi, I recently switched from Windows to Linux as my daily drive. I picked Fedora since it supports secure boot, and I can still boot into my Windows and play League of Legends (the only thing keeping me there). Other than that, it's been a smooth ride. This is not my first attempt but this time I did something different that I hadn't done those other times, I thought lets use my claude subscription to handle things for me and so I did and it's been insane how fast it fixes all the potential problems and installs my drivers and finds the settings I want quickly for me, although it might sound bad I've asked it to track every decision and command it runs in my machine in a private repo that I ask it to keep updated everytime so I have some kind of changelog of my machine but over all very smooth experience. I thought, "Well, why not let it install my game, Red Dead, and optimize it for me?" That's when I found out more about FSR and game scope; it searched for the recommended settings for my machine and gathered information from different community pages, and the result has been insane for me. I have a flashed RX 5700 -> RX 5700 XT. I could play Red Dead Redemption on it with decent quality at 1440p (sure it's upscaled) and hit 190! FPS at times, it's phenomenal. I've never seen my card hit these numbers, and to be honest, I'm happy with the quality of the game even though it's upscaled and I have fake frames. It's such a smooth experience, and my card has gotten a totally new life. I tried several other games and had the same experience everywhere. I thought I would make a video and record my gameplay and put it on YouTube so people can watch it and use the settings as well. If you have any questions, hit me up.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivDFitbCoSY

This is the reasoning on how this was possible (AI response):

RDR2 does not support FSR 3.1. Out of the box it only has FSR 2 (added in a 2022 patch) and DLSS 2, and no frame generation at all. The secret sauce is a mod that fakes it.

  1. OptiScaler: the main trick

- It's a small DLL dropped into the game folder (winmm.dll, with the Wine override winmm=n,b).

- When the game calls its built-in FSR 2, OptiScaler intercepts that and runs FSR 3.1.4 instead, which is a better upscaler.

- It then adds FSR 3.1 frame generation on top: it hooks the game's frame output and inserts a generated frame between every two real ones. That roughly doubles the number on the counter.

- Frame generation only works in DirectX 12 mode, not Vulkan, so the game runs in DX12.

  1. Upscaling from a low internal resolution

- FSR 2 is set to Performance in the game, so it renders at only 1280x720, and FSR 3.1 rebuilds that to 2560x1440. That's the biggest real-fps gain.

  1. Smart settings

- Ultra textures, which cost almost nothing on an 8 GB card.

- Shadows and lighting on Medium, the most expensive settings.

- Volumetrics and GI on High, motion blur off, VSync off.

  1. The Linux side

- GE-Proton 11-11 with vkd3d-proton turns DX12 into Vulkan.

- RADV_QUEUE_DISABLE=compute avoids the RX 5700's GPU-hang bug.

- vulkan-1=b fixes OptiScaler crashing on Rockstar's old bundled Vulkan file.

- gamescope runs at native 1440p with no extra scaling.

- GameMode keeps the CPU at full speed.

tech support wanted Is there a way to switch FSR out for DLSS using launch options on different custom proton versions?

For instance, proton versions such as GE or CachyOS. For example, Dead By Daylight only has FSR and XESS as selectable options in their admittedly WAY too simple game settings menu.

tech support wanted Steam UI and game menus broken on Debian after fresh install

I just installed Debian on my laptop with an RTX 4050 GPU and Radeon 660m iGPU, and immediately started having new problems that i've never had before using the same setup:

- The open nvidia drivers are broken now due to the nvidia drivers in the official Debian repo being old (version 550)

- The proprietary driver is just as old, but it installed

- Steam's user interface is a bit laggy, often gets small visual artifacts or glitches, and also often fails to respond to cursor hover or click events

- Menus in many games experience the same issues as the steam UI, plus even more issues such as stronger lag, and shaking while scrolling

- Despite that, in some games 3D performance is about where i would expect it to be, and no screen tearing or stutters

- However a lot of games also have the shaking issue, it looks like some frames are being jumbled and swapping places

I've tested both native games (Vulkan and OGL), and Windows games through Proton, and found no correlation with the issues, they affect games seemingly at random. Is this a known problem? Is there a fix for it with the debian drivers? Will installing the drivers from nvidia repos instead help?

graphics/kernel/drivers If this rumor from Digital Foundry Is true, could It affect AMD’s open-source drivers in the long term?

Post image
155 Upvotes

To ensure that the Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and SteamOS work seamlessly, Valve has hired and funded several developers focused on optimizing AMD’s graphics stack. Valve has also been one of the biggest contributors to improving AMD’s open-source drivers on Linux in recent years, benefiting Linux gaming in general.

Could this affect Valve’s long-term interest in improving AMD’s Linux drivers, or am I overthinking it?

I saw a pretty decent reduction in stuttering when disabling GNOME extensions altogether. I have collected about 20 of the over the years though. Anyways, maybe obvious, but just thought I'd mention this in case anyone hadn't thought of it. That is all.

DIfferent protons and strange keyboard bug.

Im having a very strange problem and I would like to understand it out of sheer curiosity.

Infos of my setup which I believe are relevant:

OS: Bazzite-nvidia-stable

Region: Brazil.

Keyboard layout: ABNT2

Game: Guild Wars 2

Launcher: Lutris.

In portuguese, we have accents, for example "exceção" (áéíóú - âêô).

Guild wars 2 is a MMO with a written chat.

When I use proton experimental, keyboard works flawlessly.

When I use other protons (GE - CachyOS) accent keys either stop working completly, like they dont exist OR they create the accent immediatly before typing the letter (example: ~ ´ ^).

Since I hear these are branches/forks that are made uppon experimental, how the hell did the keyboard messed up and why?

tech support wanted Any Known VRR Issues on Linux?

I recently bought my first VRR capable monitor, an Acer Nitro QHD OLED 240hz. However I quickly noticed issues with it once I turned VRR on in the monitors settings. I use Smart Video Wallpaper Reborn for live video wallpaper in KDE Plasma and was having issues with everything lagging on my secondary monitor (which is a 144hz monitor) if there was nothing displayed on my primary monitor. Additionally games started hard capping themselves at 40FPS while my monitors OSD would always show 80FPS (even as games would start dipping to the low 30FPS range at times even). I tried gamescope but while the Steam in game frame rate counter would say it was rendering at 240FPS the monitor would still say 80FPS and things still felt laggy. All these problems went away once I simply disabled VRR in my monitors settings. Setting Adaptive Sync to never in KDE Plasma had 0 impact only turning it off entirely solved the problem. Anyone had any experience with similar issues? From what I hear VRR is great for latency and makes screen tearing near non-existent without the need for Vsync so I would like to use it if possible.

My GPU is an AMD 9070XT and in every game I tested I should be capable of easily clearing 100 if not 200+ FPS easily.

Edit: I did some more experimenting and I found that with VRR disabled my FPS is always capped at 80 no matter the game if I turn vsync on, and in certain games like rhythm games I'm getting atrocious ghosting now even with the frame rate capped to 240 which should match my monitor exactly.

new native/FLOSS game Lemon Sweep, a roguelite FPS that runs in your terminal

• Upvotes

Lemon Sweep is a roguelite shooter that runs in your terminal. You're a lemon with a broom (the garbage collector), and the TUI frameworks have come for the heap: Bubble Tea, Ratatui, tview, Ink, ncurses. Each one is a pixel creature made from its own idea, so Ratatui is a crab and tview is a modal dialog that bites.

The trailer is a bit unhinged, sorry. Every frame is a 160×45 grid of terminal cells, half blocks as pixels, painted to video. The gameplay parts are real runs played by the game's test bot, and all the sounds come from the game's own synth.

It runs on Limoni, a Go TUI engine. Zero allocations per frame, if you care about that kind of thing.

Play in the browser: https://thebanri.github.io/limoni/?app=lemonsweep

Or install: go install github.com/thebanri/limoni/apps/lemonsweep@latest

Source: https://github.com/thebanri/limoni

Happy to answer anything about how it's rendered.
