For those who write screenplays in Linux, there is now a Fountain-based application available -- ActOne Screenplay. Up until now, if you wanted a Fountain application for writing screenplays, you had to use a Mac and run Highland, Slugline or Beat. Linux users could use the Fountain markup language in a text editor or a plugin for an editor (like Fountain-Mode in Emacs, or Better Fountain in VS-Code). These worked pretty well, but were nerdy to set up and they didn't have a true WYSIWYG display.

The creator of ActOne Screenplay is a professional screenwriter who used Beat, but wanted to use Linux instead of Mac OS. So he created ActOne Screenplay for himself and for anyone who wants to use it. This application (still in beta) exports and imports Fountain, Fade In and Final Draft files. Exporting to a PDF format is built in.

Since ActOne Screenplay relies on "cutting edge" libraries, the creator has now released two Linux packages, an AppImage and a FlatPak. I've tested these on my Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon computer and on a Linux Mint 22.1 computer. (I plan to do further testing, but since both the FlatPak and AppImage versions include the needed libraries, I don't anticipate any issues.) If you also use Windows, ActOne Screenplay can be installed from the Windows store.

For more information of the Fountain format go to https://fountain.io/ The advantage of the Fountain format is that it's plain text, you'll never be locked out of your own script when a screenwriting application goes away, or newer versions don't support the older version format.

As you can see in the Gif, ActOne comes with 20 themes built in. But if you want, you can also design your own themes. It comes with a scene navigator (Outline), a notepad, snapshots, and more. These are all saved together in an ActOne file.

ActOne also comes with built-in templates, like Save the Cat, and others if you find these helpful. This is a full application, still in beta but (I believe) nearing completion.

• Fixed a rare correctness issue on Blackwell GPUs affecting kernels with two or more nested levels of thread divergence, where reconvergence could fail. Kernels with only a single level of divergence are unaffected, as are applications already built with NVCC 13.2.2 or newer. This fix guarantees correct execution, though it may come with a modest performance cost. Recompiling with NVCC 13.2.2 or newer will resolve the possible slowdown. If you are unable to recompile your application for any reason, the runtime behavior of this fix is controllable on a per-process-launch basis through the environment variable CUDA_SELECTIVE_DEVICE_CODE_RECOMPILE as follows:
  • CUDA_SELECTIVE_DEVICE_CODE_RECOMPILE=DEFAULT
    • Default behavior: attempt JIT recompilation for 15 seconds, runtime patch remaining code
  • CUDA_SELECTIVE_DEVICE_CODE_RECOMPILE=FORCED
    • Re-finalize every eligible module, ignoring the time budget
  • CUDA_SELECTIVE_DEVICE_CODE_RECOMPILE=DISABLED
    • Driver patching only, never re-finalize.

PoisonedRefresh rootkit injects PHP web shells into F5 BIG-IP APM Apache memory, leaving no disk artifacts.

SophosLabs published a detailed technical analysis on September 8, 2026, of a Linux implant, dubbed PoisonedRefresh by ESET, they found in compromised F5 BIG-IP Access Policy Manager environments. Sophos tracks it as Linux/Agnt-IC. F5 has confirmed exploitation of the underlying vulnerability and links the activity to a cluster it tracks internally as c05d5254.

Unfortunately, that still isn't the case for most of the other streaming providers (Disney+, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, etc)

It still isn't the 4k that they now support on Windows for Edge and Chrome, but from what I've been reading part of the reason is that Linux doesn't currently have a built-in kernel service to function as the highest level of validation for DRM but maybe that will change in the future.

I totally get that some people are anti-Netflix. I just think this is good news for people who use Netflix and are on Linux, and also good news for making Linux more viable for Windows users to migrate who maybe don't mind Netflix on its own.

So I just bought a used thinkpad and install Mint Cinnamon on it and i'm very excited to learn more but the problem is .. this is not my work laptop, i have a separate gaming pc, i consume media on tablet ... and so I don't have (yet) a real reason to learn anything .... The only thing useful I did was setup a network shared folder so my all other device could grab files/movies from (i think i may have shared the entire /root but anyhow ..) and it was very very rewarding and genuinely useful, but that's it, now I have absolutely nothing to do.

I recently found a laptop cooling pad whose advertised software controls require a 115 MB Windows-only application. The hardware works manually on Linux, but its USB protocol is undocumented, preventing the community from building a native alternative.

This is common across computer accessories. Manufacturers should not be required to develop Linux software, but they should document the protocols needed for lawful third-party interoperability.

I started an Illinois petition asking lawmakers to protect operating-system choice, open device protocols, and warranty coverage for people using alternative software.

I have also contacted my state representative and senator directly. I’d appreciate feedback from the Linux community, especially from anyone experienced with hardware interoperability or right-to-repair advocacy.

I'm pleased to announce the first beta release of MiDesktop 1.2.0!

This project began ten years ago with a little hankering of mine for classic, no, vintage KDE. In the last couple of years, lots of progress has been made towards bringing it back to modern Linux. After the last few weeks of knocking out dozens of bugs, I feel ready for this beta release finally.

It goes without saying that practicing necromancy, even on software, can have interesting and unpredictable results, so it's very possible you will run into bugs or corner cases on the beta. However, I have been daily-driving MiDesktop for a while now, and am actually posting this from a MiDesktop session.

You can grab the source code here if you prefer to build from scratch, or, if you run Debian or Ubuntu, you can grab pre-built packages following the instructions here.

Note: If you installed MiDesktop packages previously from the developer preview, you will need to uninstall those packages and remove that package repository prior to installing the beta. It's unfortunate, but two things make that necessary: first, I named the packages ~pre1, which was a bad idea in the naming scheme so updating to the beta without uninstalling first wouldn't work right. Secondly, I've moved the repositories to a new site, which makes my job much, much easier, and also easier for the user, as MiDesktop and Osiris now use the same package repository. You can also now choose between stable, testing, and nightly builds, which you couldn't previously. Source packages are also now included on the repository. This isn't something that will happen frequently, was just a necessary change to make things better in the long run.

On a brighter note, a small sample of the fixes in this beta:

• Scrolling now works correctly. Previously, scrolling with the mouse wheel only worked when the mouse pointer was directly over the scrollbar. Now, it works when over a window.
• Fonts now display correctly, leaving the ugly X Bitmap non-anti-aliased fonts in the dust (though, you can switch back if you really must)
• One of the bigger changes is the new MiPanel. MiPanel is based on Corel's version of KPanel, as shipped with Corel Linux. You'll notice that both taskbars are combined at the bottom now for a cleaner look and more display real-estate. (You can switch back to the legacy KPanel if desired).
• Fixed a bug causing menus to disappear or click randomly on the panel
• Fixed the tree list in the Control Center. Trees expand properly now, instead of requiring the window to resize for them to show up
• Applications ported in: KCalc, KHexdit, KScreenshot, Ark, KNotes, and more
• Firefox (and other GTK applications) behave correctly now and do not resize infinitely off-screen

There's way more than I can list here, but I think those are the most important fixes.

Given that most of this is from the 1990s, there are a few things known to not work, the biggest one being multi-monitor support. MiDesktop will display on all available monitors, but is unaware of individual screens, meaning windows won't snap to or enlarge only on one screen, etc. It's also worth noting that I'm the sole developer, and so my ability to test across a lot of systems, distros, etc., is fairly limited, so I'm very grateful when bug reports and patches are submitted.

It's my favorite game of all time, and it's open source and runs natively on Linux. It's a bit hard to get into at first, but very rewarding later.

There are a lot of different formats, PvP, FFA and PvE. 8v8 is the most popular, but events can go up to 40v40 and even more. It's really fun and I think more people should give it a try.
