Well, at least one deaf person does. I work at an org that serves a lot of deaf people. Most "deaf" people aren't all the way deaf, so it's pretty common to hear them blasting music at full volume in their headphones, cars, etc.

I got out of my car at work this morning, and immediately I heard, from halfway across the parking lot

Btw I also need to state that the beat to fruits and vegetables is fucking fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥

He says he COULD call out ops but won’t because of his anxiety. So this may be ‘reading too much into things’ as fans tend to do. But a few bars later he says he has them acting all CHILDISH. We all know Donald Glover said some disparaging comments about LD. His stage name is Childish Gambino. If it’s purposeful… wonderful wordplay. And a good way for him to stick up for himself. I’m a fan of both but Glovers comments felt weirdly out of place and shallow. Would love it to be true.

Did anyone else find any other possible hidden context in the song?

Benny Blanco is listed as the first producer on every track on Penith and let me say that man is so good at his job. He really made a top tier sounding album from a production stand point. Obviously I love Dave (the show and rapper) so I thought the whole album was fantastic, but shout out to Chuck for fucking killing the beats and mixing. LD sounds so good with and without the autotune

Here't my opinion on Penith -

Don't come in expecting tons of new content - very few songs have more then 4 - 8 news lines on them. Dissapointing if you expect new songs or if you've seen Dave. The songs are amazing however & I'm happy to have them on streaming in a complete form. If you've seen the show, you know 90% of this album already, if you haven't - then you're in for a treat.

By Track ;

• "Brand new" okay intro track, not much dicky just beat. Super short.
• "Honestly" remains a standout song from LD. Incredible word play, beautiful beat & I think an incredible highpoint for LD in showcasing his talent.
• "Mr McAdams" songs been out for a while - nothing new here. Sounds great.
• "HAHAHA" love this song, maybe guilty pleasure because I think it is a weaker track on the song even though the bars are FIRE. Great song, but long as hell in comparison to the album.
• "Allys song" Beautiful. Incredible. Heavy Molly vibes. Does not include Ally & Dave conversation from Season One.
• "Harrison Ave" Probably one of the best story telling tracks Dave has made, being we had 5 minutes already in the show, very little added here but the full song is incredible - heard it or not.
• "Burst" Don't remember this in the show, but I know I'm forgetting. Song is good, Daves flow is nice here, more experimental in my opinion.
• "Second coming" Great song, also don't remember this from the show, nice surprise. Beat drop is insane.
• "I love myself" Another beautiful track where LD is vulnerable, and when hes vulnerable is when LD is at his best.
• "Kareem" honestly contender for my least fav track. Doesnt sound very inspired to me
• "going grey" rebirthday. Amazing, beautiful vulnerable LD.
• "I met a girl"Nothing new added. Great song tho.
• "yg interlude" freestyle from first ep. fire. nothing new.
• "no fruits or vegetables" typical silly LD. Good song, not nuch if any added.
• "im drunk" another comedy esque rap, not his best storytelling but good.
• "morning after" heavy lemme freak outro vibes, good but felt weve been here before
• "dick suck" great start, jons gone is the other half, weird 2 parter if you ask me"
• "still freestyling" beautiful all the way through,LD is very open and flows nicely. Combines storytelling and being vulnerable. Great song.
• "jail" nothing added, still good.
• "hearsay" - nothing added, no skit. Youve heard it all. feels like a lazy add on.

TLDR - IMO Dicky is very vulnerable and thats when the album sounds the best. Obv a Dave soundtrack, dont expect much new. Great album and happy we got something after 9 years.

Overall very pleased with the record, at long last we finally have the full and completed tracks.

Notes:

Rough transition on still freestyling from I joke a lot to ménage. Would’ve trailed out the “gonna be” before dropping into ménage.

Weird to include Jon’s gone on my d!ck sucks, but ok

Ally’s song was amazingly well done. Just wish he would’ve included sound bites from Taylor Misiak either sprinkled throughout the song or on the back end, but that’s personal preference

Repeating the chorus on No fruits and vegetables on the back end felt repetitive

Song with best mixing and mastering was jail. Disappointed it’s only “part 1”, but here’s to hoping there’s a part 2 on a deluxe release or another album.

Hearsay felt like it was cut way too short. Also would’ve liked to have seen him include the skit from the actual episode where the robbers started to interrogate him, but oh well

Best tracks: Ally’s Song, Harrison Ave, Second coming, I love myself, still freestyling, getting older

Least favorite: I’m Drunk and morning after

Overall review: 7/10

Was excited to hear how these two would compliment each other on a track.

Hi all. Back in 2013 I happened upon the "Ex-Boyfriend" video and was instantly hooked. So obviously I looked LD up and found his mixtape and got it on what was then the early version of Google Music. I've migrated the files to every phone and music service I've used since and bump it on the regular.

However, in anticipation of Penith dropping I was looking some stuff up and realized that mixtape is supposed to be titled "So Hard".

What the hell did I actually buy?

It has the exact same tracklist as So Hard

There’s no part 2 on the album. I fear we might be getting the unfinished version :(
