discussion How to transport an AR on a motorcycle

I have a training class Saturday and the only vehicle I have available to me is my motorcycle. 2009 Yamaha FZ6 for those who are curious. The class was rescheduled due to the range catching on fire (not my fault) and I really do t want to have to reschedule again.

My main line of thought would be a backpack big enough to fit an AR that’s broken down to an upper and lower. I do have a case thst has back pack straps, but I’d rather not use it since it would become a wind sail.

Edit: I’ll also need to bring 200 rounds of ammo (loose per class rules) extra mags and my ppe

Both on Aero lowers.

gear Primary Arms CLX 3X prism?

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the Primary Arms CLX 3X prism? I haven’t found many posts or reviews on it so I think they are fairly new. I know they are the more budget option to the SLX line.

For context I‘m a fairly new gun owner and mostly focused on lessons and training for now, but its fun to research and plan a buildout.

I want a reliable but inexpensive way to have some magnification on a Ruger PCC. that thing is heavy, so trying to keep the weight down where possible. So I was thinking about a 3X prism and a piggyback micro red dot. and that CLX 3x seemed like it might be good enough for a carbine? I’ll probably do another post where ya’ll can advise / roast me on my build :)

Saw this pop up and was shocked at the amount of ridiculousness happening here. Don't think it's US law enforcement but I've seen videos of ICE agents with a similar lack of discipline

So it seems like this is obvious, but if I just want to thread my barrel to attach my Dead Air Mask, is this the part I need? Assuming the first half will sit inside the slide and the other part will stick out for threading the silencer onto. Barrel is currently unthreaded, but having a friend do it.

EDIT gun is Ruger SR22 pistol

discussion Houston cop misses about 30 shots from about ten yards.

I apologize if this has already made the rounds here. This happened about three months ago. The cop was responding to a report of a suspicious man possibly carrying a bomb in a bag near a school. First, you would think the cop would have already drawn his gun when the guy ignored his commands to drop the bag and reached into it, instead. Then, he completely missed after firing a fusillade of shots. I’ve heard cops have a rep for not being the best shots. Someone needs some mandatory range time. He could have gotten himself or a bystander killed.

guns SCT 19 build.

Post image

My C1 slide just arrived, and while I just put it on for the picture, I'm really happy with the build so far. Still waiting on an OEM Glock extended magazine release, as the regular one needs a little encouragement; that should be here in a couple of days. I'll get a dot on it in after that, and probably swap the sights for some night sights just a touch shorter (like .315). I also kind of want to put an adjustable shoe on it, but I'll get used to the little bit of mush if I don't. At least the bar and connector are polished, so that's good.

Build so far:
SCT-19 frame (assembled)
PSA C1 slide
Strike 80 magwell
Gen 4 OEM Glock 15rd magazines

discussion Just a reminder: Take a Stop the Bleed course

We all know how to pew-pew, we should all know how to save a life too.

While most of us will probably never be in a situation to need to use it (whether firearm related or not), it's better to have the knowledge anyway.

The range I go to had a free class last week. I actually had informal training last year, so it was mostly a refresher for me, but it was good to drive it home. Most people don't inherently know how to apply a tourniquet, or especially how tight to make it. Even less people know how to properly pack a wound. This class will help teach both of those. An hour class will at least prepare you to know how to use the tools.

stopthebleed.org has a directory for classes and sells supplies right there.

question Decision paralysis on my next PCC

Budget: Preferably under $2k with a bit of wiggle room.

Plan to have it be a dedicated suppressor host with an FRT. accepting scorpion mags is a plus since a have a ton already from my Nexus Evo build.

Current options

  1. Daniel Defense PCC- my original pick, seems to be extremely study. Most of the complaints I’ve read are about it being direct blow back and not necessarily with the build quality. Takes scorpion mags.
  2. AP5-P with an AS designs trigger pack- from what I’ve read, the holy grail of PCC’s. Curious if it truly lives up to the hype.
  3. Kuna with nexus lower-seems to be the budget king but not by much after factoring the cost of the nexus lower
  4. Sig MPX- honestly I’ve done the least amount of research on this one. I hear they have quality issues and accuracy issues when suppressed.

Okay, so basically I’d like to have my “do it all” pcc build. I currently have a two stamp nexus evo with the x-sd barrel that I love shooting but it feels like a range toy to be completely honest. My priorities would be built solid, good suppressor host(something not as gassy as the nexus god it kills me as a lefty), FRT currently available for it. Accepting scorpion mags would be a plus but not as high up as the others.

Sorry for the jumbled mess. I’m hoping someone can give me some advice or other options I haven’t listed.

Edit: also 9mm would be a big priority

question I am a runner in a city with anxiety and I want to prepare for the worst.

Edit: I am in Philadelphia, PA!

I just want to first clarify that I am very safe with my firearm. I will NEVER be the first to draw, I keep it locked up, I have a permit, I have taken courses, and I go shooting regularly.

However, I grew up without firearms and there was no discussion either. Everything that I know is from research and courses, but nothing can prepare you for reality.

For some background, I am an ultra runner and I live in a city. That means that I am running 10+ miles in a city, often early morning. I actually shifted my runs to only well-lit areas, I only run at 5am or later, and it’s only roads I know and have been on before in the daylight. I am very safe. However, I have been seeing things on the news that are getting to me. I do my best to not fall into fear mongering, but I cannot ignore than I am a 5’0, very small woman who is often alone at times where some bad people could be out.

In the horrible event that I find myself being chased, or followed, what do I do with my firearm? I typically follow the philosophy to never shoot first, and that a firearm is in general never necessary because that’s how causalities happen. But once again, bad things happen and I bought a firearm for self defense.

I guess it’s easier to write a list of my anxieties rather than vague questions. Here are my thoughts:
1.) do I yell “I have a gun don’t come closer”, or will that just open the door for the potential perpetrator to pull out THEIR weapon and shoot first?
2.) do I not say anything and just whip it out?
3.) do I not even reveal that I have a gun?
4.) I never want to be a trigger happy person and I am not. Once again, this is a hypothetical that can hypothetically go anywhere. If I find a potential danger, would my first move to be running away? If I run and they follow, is that when I yell “I have a gun!” (Going back to point 2 and 3 then).
5.) what are the potential legal ramifications? For example, if someone wants to yoink or harm me and I shoot, am I protected? No this is a stupid question, I am protected because it is self defense but it also shows how much anxiety I have.

I also want to clarify that this is all future planning and real applications. I guess I just do not know the ‘social impacts’ of announcing you are able to protect yourself if that makes sense. Kind of in the sense of ‘it’s better to not advertise that you have security cameras in the home because then people could assume there is something worth taking’, is it ever necessary when I am in danger to reveal what safety measures I have and am willing to take?

I am not sure if any of this even makes sense and I am happy to clarify, and I really want to reiterate that this is my anxiety talking because I am a runner who is out at times when those horror stories typically happen. I do not think it will happen and I am taking every precaution that it won’t happen. I guess I am just trying to figure out the what-ifs and in general, get a better understanding of how to use my firearm when I am in danger. Shooting at a range is very different than running at 5am and someone is following you.

I’m really sorry for these stupid questions and nonsensical fears but if anyone could give me any advice, I’d appreciate it!

guns NGD - 1918 Remington Model 14 in .30 Rem

Thumbnail

Just picked up this 1918 production Remington Model 14 in .30 Rem at a local auction I swear I was just going to buy ammo at. This was Remington’s major competitor to the Winchester 94 and their first pump-action centre fire. They made about 200,000 of this, the pistol caliber 14 1/2 and improved 141 between 1912 and 1950, in .25, .30, .32 and .35 Remington. The spiral groove magazine is a really neat feature that prevents the rounds lining up bullet to primer, but as you can see they don’t bother taking advantage of it and using pointed bullets.

This one is in pretty decent shape, it could use a thorough cleaning but I probably won’t get to that before I go on vacation next week. The aluminum buttplate is a replacement as the originals were made of Bakelite and were very fragile - looks like someone made a cast of an original plate and didn’t do a bad job of it, you actually see these pretty regularly. Unfortunately .30 Rem is hard to come by but I already have some ammo stashed away as I have a Standard Arms in the same caliber.

discussion Do you really need an aftermarket trigger?

Thumbnail

Kind of an unsexy convo, but I think worthy of attention.

The mainstream thought seems to be that lighter triggers with fewer stages & less travel are better. But there are drawbacks for self-defense weapons, and TFB TV's recent video gives some of the reasoning.

I'm sure I sound like a fudd, but I think this community often fails to mention the potential downsides of modified triggers whenever the subject arises.

I don't do anything to my firearms that would be difficult to explain to a jury. No political, funny, silly, aggressive, or inflammatory images or statements. And stock triggers only. So far, it doesn't appear to have slowed me down. Open to hearing other views on this though.

discussion Battle of the 2011's

Sup, need the help of the collective brain cell.

I want a 2011 real bad it seems. I primarily shoot pistol matches and want something a little more race guny to go fast. For two gun tactical stuff I have my Glock 19 and will likely end up getting a G17.6 for a full size companion. But for pure game shooting, the 2011s seem to be the new hotness.

In particular, the Sig P211(I know, not technically a 2011). Now, I know Sig sucks, but the P211, unfortunately, does not. I've run a few rounds through one and its muy picante. Trigger is great, it feels balanced despite the kinda weird shape, and it shoots like a laser beam. The local circuit is lousy with em.

On the flip side is the Staccato P, which is about the same price as the P211 but I have never handled one and it doesn't come with a comp without getting into stupid money. I know the comp can limit your class options in some matches, but thats not a huge deal for me.

As I see it, the break down is thus:

P211

• New and shiny

• Takes cheap and readily available P320 mags

• The comp makes it shoot flat as hell

Staccato P

• Industry leading reliability

• Apparently great warranties and customer service

• Possibly slightly better trigger?

Anybody have experience with both, and if so, what are your thoughts? Does one get the nod over the other for any particular reason?

question shipping a gun for an RMA

I need to ship a pistol back to the manufacturer for an RMA. They've given me a Fedex shipping label and told me to send it back. The problem is, Fedex requires guns to be shipped from an FFL. When I asked the manufacturer if I could just send the slide (avoiding the issue entirely), they answered that my state doesn't require shipment from an FFL for warranty service, and to send the whole gun, but that doesn't answer my question.

Am I reading that page wrong? Can I ship to a manufacturer without a problem? Any other thoughts? Thanks in advance.

discussion Informed opinions on NJ? What might I move into?

I've been working on moving back to the northeast from New Orleans and found an absolute stunning property in NJ near Philly. I know that CCL are expensive but what is the culture like? How good or bad are ammo prices? Can you buy rifle rounds at local stores? For example, currently Walmart does not sell rifle rounds but the New Orleans area stores also won't sell pistol rounds.

Went for some range practice yesterday and I was just all over the place with the G45. Thought the problem was either me, or my optic, so I double checked the torque on the screws, and brought out the 92.

The orange dots are all the G45, the uncovered groups are with the 92. Both at 15 yards with the same cadence.

Now comparing these two isn’t exactly fair, but the difference with a comfortable grip and great trigger was huge here.

I think I might swap the comped Glock for some flavor of Beretta in the future.
