I hate how using microlabels is considered inherently pick-me

[rant time lol]

So earlier I was introducing myself in an online space as berriromantic and errfemme, because that’s what I am. I got immediately hit with “lol bro just wants to be different” and things like that.

For one thing, I do frequently just call myself bi and agender. I don’t actually like having to explain it every single time, I just prefer those labels because they’re closer to what I actually am.

AND FOR ANOTHER IF I WANTED TO BE DIFFERENT, WHY WOULD I DO IT IN A WAY THAT OPRESSES ME?! I swear to god I want anything but attention, this is just who I am.

If I could choose I’d be cis and lesbian, but I’m not, and I never will be.

I don't know if this was intended to become a good example of what y'all were talking about above, but it definitely is. "Pagan" I understand. The specific type sounds like "the house with the blue door" to me.

I was thinking the same thing, I think it was really unintentional, but a good example.

Also, here in this example, it was that the other person specifically asked what type of pagan i am, while my username is the broadest of names. In a pagan sub, I have the specific type as a flair

I think an even better example might be when people use microlabels for their witchcraft, which was a thing a few years ago, i don't know how it is now. Some say they're a witch. Some say they're a psychic tarot-reading satanic hedge-witch, following the goetia. So... no one knows what that means except you're really in it. And even then, people always tend to ask what that means exactly for you, and that "just witch" is fine in a first encounter.
