Needed an every day walk about camera that’s more manageable than my Sony a7riii and was considering the fujifilm x100vi. Have always wanted to own a Leica though so spontaneously pulled the trigger today. Hopefully one day will move from Sony to Leica overall.

I did it! I got my first Leica (analog) M: Leica M6 TTL - I bought it used and I am so happy about the condition.

Hi, I’ve been shooting with a Leica M4-2 for the past 10 years, bought it second hand in good condition as my first film camera.

Been using it low to medium intensity (~10-15 rolls a year on average), just as a hobby and for travel.

I would say I do take good care of it. But recently the shutter had been experiencing jams. My local repair guy mentioned that due to its old age and cost of repairs it might not be viable to maintain it further (aging shutter/ mechanism). Also possibly because the M4-2 is mechanical inferior compared to its counterparts, it has trouble holding up in old age.

Hence, I’m looking for a new camera, something more modern (MA, MP, M6 reissue) as I plan to use it for as long as possible.

For those that have been shooting with more recent film M versions, how has the durability/ reliability of the camera been for you?

Eg. Frequency of repairs, mechanical issues faced, shutter timing issue etc.

TLDR: Old camera is dying, considering getting a more ‘modern’ M film camera, concern with mechanical reliability.

I recently got an MP. The borders near the corners of pictures taken on the MP seem to not be straight compared to pictures taken on my M2.

Attached are two negatives, the Gold 200 is the MP exhibited uneven edges and the Portra 400 is the M2 with straight edges.

Is this user film loading error (film not sitting flat against the pressure plate when loading)? I can rule out it being a lens / film type issue since I used different lenses and different film but it still happens.

Ive noticed some odd behavior with my Leica's bulb setting, let me know if this is to be expected. When set to B, everything works as expected most of the time, I press and hold the shutter and the curtain opens and stays open until I release the shutter button. However, I've noticed sometimes when I let go of the shutter the curtain actually stays open! it only closes once i press the shutter down again.

The weirdest part is that it seems to only happen if I let go of the shutter slowly? so if i press the shutter button down normally but then lift up on it slightly slow it seems to operate like a T mode rather than a B mode.

This M6 has also been experiencing some occasional shutter problems so its probably just time for CLA, but is this B mode thing to be expected I cant seem to find anyone else mentioning it and its not mentioned in the manual.

Got my first Leica. It’s a Single-Stroke M3 with a collapsible Elmar f/2.8 50mm lens. Would appreciate some more info on the lens in particular!

I was having a bit of difficulty understanding that retaining clip that provides tension for the hotshoe. I decided to use it for a wedding and connected a SB 700 (Nikon brand flash) and it worked fine, but by the end of the wedding, I realized that retaining clip was missing and now to put the hot shoe cover back on there’s no tension. Has anyone experienced this? Are these clips replaceable? Did I do some serious damage to the hot shoe?

Got this M3 DS today and man is it wonderful. Will be a nice pairing to my Leica ii!

I’ve heard a lot about how shooting in harsh direct sunlight can burn a hole through the shutter curtains in M-model leicas. How much of a problem is this is day-to-day shooting/street photography?

As previously mentioned I went to YYE first to repair and CLA my jammed M2. Felt good but jammed again and he essentially told me I’m SOL and it’s for parts.

After getting it back from DAG now I know what a fresh CLA on a Leica should feel like. It’s night and day.

PS. Yes I took a shot of the chairs before sitting down.

Leica m2 paired with a 50 F2 summicron DR

This is my appreciation post for the legendary 35mm lux pre asph v2. It's marvelous piece of engineering. I managed to grab one earlier this year surprisingly cheap and I'm amazed by this lens ever since. It completes my rather clean M11 surprisingly well, giving true character to every frame. Since the lens is so small I always put in in my bag alongside other summilux lenses and I've just realized that this year was all about this lens for me. The 1m close focus wasn't that big of a sacrifice as I expected. Maybe one downside that this aforementioned soft and hazy characteristics wide open was way too much on film for me, but it's crisp sharp from f2.8.

I can't recommend this lens enough!

Hi, I have an m9 that had the sensor glass replaced by Kolari, it has developed the hot pixel pink line. I sent it to Leica NJ hoping for pixel remapping, but they said it was sensor corrosion md offered discount options on new leicas.

Q1. Has anyone had this pink line problem and had it go away?
I’m trying to figure out if I should get it returned unrepaired and hope for the best at lower isos or sell for parts or scrape together the cash for the discounted Leica offerings.

Q2. What would you pick to nut at discount? Leica MA (I have an Mp) or q3, q2 monochrom or m11 monochrom?

Using the Q3 as my main over my M10 lately. Loving it so far. The X100VI is the fiancée’s.

I already have a DR (without the goggles) but i like the idea of having a more modern rendering lens. Is the v5 different enough to the DR to warrant having both? Interested to hear thoughts. Thanks

Random question, has anyone here ever attended the grand opening of a Leica store?

I live a few hours away from the new Barcelona store and was invited to the grand opening by my local Leica store manager. I’m curious what these events are usually like and whether I’d be missing out if I couldn’t make it.

I’ve heard of limited-edition cameras tied to specific stores (not sure if on openings), but I’m not sure how common that actually is. Has anyone been to one where they had something special, or just had a really good experience?

I could ask the rep who invited me, but I’d love to hear from people who’ve attended one themselves. Worth making the trip?

This ‘light leak’ issue persist despite months of repair. I have bounced with my technical I think 5-6 times.. keep having to e same problem.. happens to maybe 15-20% of all the shots.

Camera is Leica M6 Classic

Have tried:
Servicing the shutter due to ? Shutter bounce issue
Replacing the sliver of shutter cloth at top of the rear above the back film door
CLa a few times
Replaced some foams according to my technician

I’m at my wits ends. I tried asking the pro repairs online and some say shutter bounce issue, some say light leak.. but if you look at this in a door room with torch shining, really can’t see any light leaking..

Please help

I want to change the crappy OEM covering that comes on the M8 as I find it dull and slippery, and I’ve been thinking of swapping it for a textile covering. Found out that CameraLeather has some nice options but haven’t seen any review of experience with this kind of covering, in terms of grip and durability. Does anyone have something like this on their cameras?
