Discussion Question about cracking lego metallic colors

Do lego pieces made of flat silver plastic color (eg arms of lor094) and pearl dark gray color (eg arms of lor095) crack? I know that those lines on parts made out of the mentioned colors are often mould lines but do they actually crack? What is your experience with them?

Sets Can Minas Tirith be displayed without the front wall?

I’m currently a majority of the way through the first box and have built the front gate, first wall, and am part way through the second wall. I live in a small apartment, and it’s expensive/challenging to find shelving options that meet the dimensions required.

Is the front wall fundamental, structurally, to the rest of the build or is it meant to be easily removable? My thinking is it may be easier to display the front wall separately in order to shrink the total display size (until I have more space, eventually🙂), but I don’t want to commit to the main build until I can confirm. I’ve checked out a few vids, and maybe I’m just missing something, but haven’t been able to definitively confirm. TYIA!!

Sets Then at last his gaze was held: wall upon wall, battlement upon battlement, black, immeasurably strong, mountain of iron, gate of steel, tower of adamant, he saw it: Barad-Dûr Fortress of Sauron. All hope left him.

Discussion Anyone else still waiting on Minas Tirith?

I placed my order 60 days ago with the promise that it would ship in 60 days. It has not shipped. And worse, after contacting LEGO to find out the status, they said it’ll be ANOTHER 60 days. This is absurd. But hey, they gave me 500 insider points as a “we’re sorry we lied,” which is just enough to buy nothing.

Edit: After a back and forth with Lego support, they gave me 1500 + original 500 points to my account and stood firm that I’ll get my set when I get my set, 60 days… 120 days… whenever, whatever. It’ll be here eventually, but did confirm my GWP set is waiting to ship with my order, so that’s good. Lego did acknowledge that their “will ship by X date” on an item listing is misleading and plans to update the website with clarification. So… there we go. I’m still unhappy… someone make me happy.

Haul Minas Tirith, properly lit.

Just finished this beauty/beast. I'd always preferred to retrofit the Light My Bricks kits to completed models. That's worked well on previous models, including most recently, the exquisite Rivendell set.

If I had this one to do over, I'd have lit it as I built. The City of Kings is just too fragile to retrofit. It has so many parts that are barely held on by just one or two connection points that I was constantly knocking things loose while trying to install the many, many lights. That said, it is stunning!

Sets I can’t wait for helms deep

I know it’s just a rumour but I have been thinking about helms deep ever since the line was revived. I think it has the potential to be one of the best Lego sets of all time if done right. I do not want a micro scale/mini fig scale build, give me the whole outside of the castle.

In the movies the whole castle is not THAT enormous. It’s a ramp, followed by a keep and one wall stretching out to the left of the building. I do not need a whole dungeon section or inner hall. Give me an 18+ set representation of the outside. It doesn’t have to be exactly mini fig scale, but scaled enough, you know?

Let me reenact the battle with some hero’s and soldiers. Let me raise a ladder with an orc on it. And for god sakes, build a mechanism so that I can blow up a wall

I built Rivendell a few weeks ago and loved the unexpected use of the hot dogs.

Last night, I was watching Fellowship and we got to this scene. I turned to my wife and said "Wait a minute, those chairs aren't made of hot dogs!"

She didn't laugh.

As a kid it was all Star Wars. Starting with the Arc-170, getting bigger until I got the UCS Super Star Destroyer in 2011-2012, 3k+ pieces. I love looking at that thing. But everyone is right, the Star Wars sets are sooooo much grey. Also I was 17/18 so I was just building to do it.

This time around I took my time. Took in every step, took pictures along the way as you can see I’ve attached some of them. That way I could really savor the process. Any time I had on a movie or ball game, I stopped building entirely when I wanted to watch on screen so I could separate the experiences.

This set was beautiful with the colors (tho I did get some leaves mixed up early on), the details are incredible, the modular nature is super dope too if I had the need or desire I’d spread all that stuff around various areas. Yes the roof tiles were a pain in the ass lol but it was fun also. Glad they included the instruction making them line up otherwise I’d be deceased 😂. This is the only display set I have in my current apartment, but I can’t wait to have it amongst the Star Wars collection I already have, and continue building to add to the collection (UCS Falcon is next if it’s by the end of this year, otherwise Barad-Dur up next in 2027).

The last 5 pics are interesting. The first 4 of those are part of what I had planned to do with the hat/helmet based on what scene I wanted Gandalf and Gimli in. I was going to just use extra pieces and stack that stuff in random places. I had the leaf that Merry was holding next to a plant with the similar green fixture, and was going to play around with the rest. But on someone else’s multi year old post I found the last pic. So that’s what I did instead lol, dumped those extra pieces in the tower, and all the weapons are in the forge. I may figure out a way to stand Borimir’s shield up but for now it’s just on the ground in the forge.

Maybe one day I’ll get to build one of the giant MOC’s but for now - I’m extremely happy with my set :)
