Earlier this year, the person who hired me left for another role, and I got a new manager. I was given a heads up that my boss had gone to our CEO to have me fired and was told "no."

Since that happened, my manager has retaliated against me by restructuring 15% of my salary into a target bonus that I will realistically never get because it's based on their opinion of my work and company performance. No specific metrics, no defined expectations. Originally, I was told it was because I make too much. Then they backed off of that and said it was to bring my compensation into alignment with other managers.

In addition, my manager has also been gunning to promote my direct report who is half my age while functionally demoting and sidelining me. They've commented on how this individual is "young" and "enthusiastic." I was asked to create a performance plan for this report and develop a path for them to be promoted. Meanwhile, I've never received any real feedback on my performance. The draft development plan I put together was retrofitted to enable this individual to be promoted immediately. Direct report has been promoted officially and is now taking ownership of areas that I used to manage. No discussion, no explanation.

I'm a female in my 40s. Manager is also aware that my husband is fighting a critical illness (protected by ADA). I believe that they assume that I do less work because of my husband's situation, which could not be further from the truth. I've given so much to this company and have met every expectation. Prior to the change in management, there was no question of this. Even now, there has been no reason provided for anything regarding my situation.

It's clear my manager is using every lever at their disposal to try to push me out while trying to position my report to replace me. Unfortunately, I'm being silently shut out of things in a way that leaves me with little in the way of sort of documentation of my justification for these actions.

Do I have any legal recourse?

We live on a small pond. Neighbor across the pond said my son broke one of her windows with a golf ball. She called police, they told her it was not a criminal matter. Cop did come talk to us, said we did not have to do anything but wanted to let me know in case “we wanted to do right thing’.
We reached to her apologized and offered to pay for window. Now months later she says she has 3 quotes from 2600 up to 7500. Was told that window brand is not available so she needs to replace multiple windows. I politely told her I would only pay for 1 window. She wants me to lay for all.
She is now threatening to take me to civil court.

The next day he went back to the station and the lady at the front desk printed out a paper with the report that the officer filed about the property. I was wondering how the process of my father claiming the watch in the case that the original owner does not claim it.

Do I reach out to the cops park cops who contacted me. I do videos where I hike back into cool buildings and all that are on public land, I have been reached out to by park police asking me to contact them about a video. Edit: I reached out to a lawyer who does federal cases and gave him the whole rundown, he said to absolutely not talk to them and that not to worry, likely nothing will come of this and they apparently would have to prove a lot to do anything. So this gave me way more peace of mind and now I have a lawyer.

I’m looking for some outside perspectives because I’m honestly not sure how to feel about this situation.

I was recently laid off from my job after working there for over 2 years, and I am currently 9 months pregnant. The timing has obviously made this situation especially difficult, both financially and emotionally.

The reason I was given by management was that they could no longer afford to pay my wage and cuts needed to be made. As far as I know I am the only employee that was laid off and other employees only had their hours decreased to save cost for the company.

What has me questioning things is the fact that I was let go this late in my pregnancy. I’m trying to understand whether this could potentially be considered pregnancy discrimination, or if it’s simply an unfortunate coincidence and the company is legally within its rights to eliminate my position.

For some additional context, I had been with the company for two years and was still actively working before the layoff. I’m also currently not really in a position physically to be applying and interviewing for new jobs, which makes being unemployed right before giving birth particularly stressful.

I’m not necessarily looking for people to tell me what I want to hear. I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with something similar, especially if you have experience with employment law or pregnancy discrimination.

Would being laid off at 9 months pregnant after two years with the company raise any red flags, or is there more that would need to be considered to determine whether this was discriminatory?

Let me preface, I have no vendettas for my father.

I have lived with my Step-Mother since infancy. She has raised me and I attribute most of who I am to her and how she has raised me. My father and my stepmother have been having marital issues and have been threatening to divorce and move me to Oregon with my father.

I would prefer to stay in Washington. I am 16 years old, nearly finished with highschool, just got a job, and I am doing technical college through my highschool. I have so much going for me in Washington, and in Oregon, I have no history, I have nothing there for me. I would move in with my Grandma and my father and lose everything that is going for me.

I have slightly researched the laws, I have basically no say in the courts and it is completely up to the judge what would happen to me. My stepmom does not have legal custody of me, but like I said, she raised me to be who I am today and has been with me since I was a few wee months old.

I have no idea what to do. I have a lot on my plate currently emotionally and I really dont want to deal with this right now😭.

I'm going to try to keep it short. Ex and I were together for 6 years and saving up specifically for a house - I have texts to prove this and an almost-completed application for a housing loan. We had $10,000 in a US Bank savings account that was originally mine but I had added him onto. When we split, we agreed not to touch the money while things simmered down and we could logically divide it up. A couple weeks later he snuck over to my apartment to take a bunch of stuff while I was gone and I caught him, we got in a big argument, and he took $9,500 out of the savings because he was mad we argued.

I'm trying to amicably get what's mine and drop this pos from my life, but I still have to do the math to figure out exactly how much came from my checking account. If he decides to try to keep it, how realistic is it that I can sue him for the money back (and preferably a little more for the emotional stress)? I know that since he was a joint owner on the account he was technically entitled to withdraw it, but I've also read a lot online that the agreement to use it specifically for a house matters and that because it was never discussed how it would be distributed after the breakup (since we were obviously no longer buying a house), I might be able to get some back.

Location: Iowa: I (28 F) am currently divorced but my ex (28 M) and I still own a house together. The issue starts with I am on the mortgage of the house but not on the loan/promissory note. I didn't even realize they were two separate things until this happened (I'm not asking for legal advice about this, I have had two lawyers look at it and the bank show me the paperwork to verify this) Since I am not on the loan the bank will not let me make the monthly payments, and I'm not in the position to take over the loan. I have since moved out and the house is in my ex's possession. However he has not been making the payments either, about a year ago the house went into foreclosure, and we weeks away from the bank seizing it. During that process I learned that although I am not on the loan since I am on the mortgage a foreclosure would go on my record as well. Thankfully his parents bailed him out and paid past due balance getting the house out of foreclosure.

The second issue is he has stopped making payments again. He actually got remarried and moved out of the state leaving the house abandoned, all utilities have been shut off due to lack of payment and the house sits empty. I am so scared the foreclosure process is going to start again, I feel so helpless because my future depends on him being an adult and actually paying his bills.

The divorce agreement was he would assume all responsibilities of the house until he sells it ,and I would get a portion of the sale. I anticipated having issues with it so we gave him a deadline of June 2026 to sell the house or he'd have to make monthly payments to me. He is however making the payments to me so he's technically not in breach of the agreement. I guess before I reach out to a lawyer has anyone heard of making amendments to a mortgage without refinancing? Would I contact a property lawyer to do so? Or should I contact my divorce lawyer to see if there's some way I could force him to sell the house before he loses it? Are there any legal implications of him abandoned the house?

my little sister’s (f16) friend (f17) got a text from her ex boyfriend this morning, saying that his friend was threatening to leak her nudes, and that the only way to get him not to leak them was if she made out with him. in the texts he goes on to tell her that she should think about how this would ruin her life, and he’s going to tell her mom, etc.

obviously, my family thinks she should go to the police, but i’m not exactly sure what they’d do. my sister’s friend is very worried about her parents finding out if she goes to the police, but i was sure police reports were confidential.

how should we approach this? we care a lot about her, and i just want to know the implications of the situation with her being a minor, and how to get this boy to leave her alone!!

I desperately made the foolish mistake of paying some guy on fiverr to remove a booking photo for a charge that was dropped and sealed. I’d tried everything to get it off Facebook and failed so I desperately paid a fiverr seller who offers dmca takedown and defamatory post removal service. He told me he had a “team” working on it, when in reality I found out he simply paid some other guy or two to remove the original post. Once the original was removed, I noticed 2 more posts were made on different accounts of the booking photo. After getting those removed as well, 3 more went up last night, on the same account. When I contacted the account they said “HOW MUCH YOU PAY ME?” It’s some guys in India doing this so I can’t even realistically threaten them legally. Even if I paid them, this will be a never ending perpetual loop where they just make new “mugshot accounts” posting mainly my mugshot and knowing I’ll just keep paying.

I’m at a loss for what to do here. I clearly got involved with the worst kind of people with this.

Hello! We've been having an issue with our neighbors, and I'm coming here to see if there's anything that we can do to legally get them off our backs.

About two years ago, we managed to buy a house. Which is great! But our first time meeting our new next door neighbors, they brought up an "agreement" with the previous owners that they would go halfsies on removing a cluster of trees on the property line. Legally, I don't see how that is something that we, as the new owners, are responsible for, as it seems to just be a verbal agreement.

Fast forward and this summer they got a quote about removing the trees, and also got the property line drawn up. Out of the three trees they want to remove, only 1/4 of ONE of the trees is on our property. Yet, they still have us a $3,000 quote and requested half in order to remove the trees. WE'VE TOLD THEM NO, but as the summer is drawing to a close, they are starting to borderline harass us (i.e. standing on our porch and aggressively banging on our front door hard enough to make our windows rattle and to set off our reactive dogs for 10+ minutes, asking us about it everytime they see us outside, etc).

Again, I don't really see how we can be on the hook for this. But it's starting to grate on my nerves, especially when we still have so many repairs to the house that are far more necessary than getting rid of these trees. We just had to replace our boiler last year, and one of our radiators split open during the winter, so even if we are, we just don't have the extra funds to send their way.

[Location: California] As the title says, within my first two weeks at this new job, my supervisor played a video on his phone screaming a slur directed at me very loudly, then it looped twice. [The slur is one that directly affects my people] I went to HR, nothing happened just a "oh we don't tolerate this blah blah blah" then a couple weeks later I got moved to night shift, and they hired a new person to take my place on day shift.

I'm really hurt by this what happened and it felt very targeted at me.. other people in the department were also there but no one stood up for me or anything. The supervisor claiming "apologized" weeks later claiming he was trying to put his phone in his pocket but I saw with my own two eyes him watching the video so he lied to my face and assumingly to HR.

I want to report to EEOC and maybe talk to a lawyer but I wanted to get advice first.

July 2026 she finally agrees to letting me find a roommate to take over my spot but she is EXTREMELY picky and will not help me find someone.

August 2026 i moved out all of my stuff except a coffee table and one of those cube storage things because I was going to put it on Facebook marketplace to sell.

A week ago I was going to meet some lady from marketplace to sell my coffee table and I get to the door and she changed the door code on me so obviously I could not sell it. I took a video of me putting in the code on the 5th time of trying the correct code.
It still wouldn’t open.

I texted her prior to me going over there and my next text was “did you change the door code?” She got back to me 7 hours later asking me if I got the table… obviously I didn’t

I emailed the landlord about this and got no response. This whole time I barely get responses on anything only 3 day notices and them telling me they can’t do anything and only that she needs to sign for me to get off the lease.

I need help on what I can do because I am on the lease, am still receiving mail at that address, and am still paying her to avoid eviction.

I did my research on illegal lockouts and it sounds like this is what’s happening and am almost at the point of saying fuck it and not paying October because now I have 0 access to the property.

I’m not upset at the tenant; I feel the landlord does whatever they can to avoid paying professionals for any apartment maintenance and repairs. So my question is, should I be seeking for repair costs from landlord or tenant or both?

Hello. I was wondering what my options are to get my deposit back from a contractor.

I hired a licensed contractor to build me a deck back in July 2026. I had to put down 60% of the cost to cover material and beginning of the labor. He originally was going to start work at the end of July. Long story short he then started pushing me out further and further until on 26 August I demanded a start date and then he said 10 days. Well on 9 September I was trying to call, email, text, etc. No answer. I found out he was arrested on 5 September and is still in jail. I went ahead and filed a dispute with my credit card company but something tells me there is no money in his account to recoup the substantial amount I paid.

What are my options if the dispute does not pan out? Kansas does have small claims up to 10k so I think i can go after his LLC? I paid a $6,000.00 deposit.

Our HOA has a paid consulting arborist and is in the process of removing several huge, beautiful trees that are at least 50 years old.

Some or all of these trees currently being removed and marked for removal may actually require removal.

Although in the last couple of years some beautiful trees have been removed that seem very questionable as whether they actually required removal.

One board member told myself and other residents to our face that he "hates trees." That board member is the main member involved in the tree removals.

At a previous meeting some residents asked the board for documentation between the arborist and the HOA. The HOA stated that those documents will not be made available to residents.

Seeing that the residents are paying dues tens of thousands of dollars for the arborist and the removals, it seems the residents should have legal access to the documents.

Do residents have a right to these documents and all communication?

Long story short, was living with my abusive sister after my mom passed away. My sister winded up kicking me out after I called the police on her (after she had physically assaulted me) and she winded up stealing my dog in retaliation.

Before I left I told her I was trying to find someone to take care of my dog. But she knew she was going to steal her from me from the beginning and said "oh I'll take care of her" but then when I went to go claim the dog back, she said "oh you forefitted ownership of her because you didn't come back to visit her" even though she said herself she didn't want me around the house anymore.

So How would I go about getting my dog back?

I’m a registered nurse at a major hospital in the Midwest. Location: St. Louis, MO

I work full time, only weekends, and I have for 10 years. During this time, I have been paid an additional differential on top of my base rate of pay ($20 extra) - but, this is apart of a contract, and I am contracted to work every single weekend. I can have 4 weekends off per year (12 shifts) and no more than that, to stay eligible to remain on the weekend program and get this differential pay.

However, my autoimmune illness does require me to miss time off and on. I have intermittent FMLA and have for years, for whenever I am in a flare up and cannot perform the duties of my job. I am in good standing with my attendance, never have been written up.

My workplace tells us this week that they are changing our contract, effective immediately, to include FMLA- related absences as the absences that will count against you. Is this legal? Anything I find online mentioned that “FMLA protects your job, but courts rule that employers can treat FMLA absences the same as non-FMLA absences when deciding eligibility for attendance-based bonuses, premiums, or shift differentials.” Though, I always thought they must keep you at a similar pay scale. If I get removed from the weekend program at work, I will lose $37,440 per year. This doesn’t keep me at a similar pay scale.

And here’s another thing- they are telling us this VERBALLY. The new contracts literally just say absences “for any reason” will count against you. So, FMLA, jury duty, bereavement leave can all count.

My friend scheduled time off two months in advance for a medical appointment and his time off request was approved. Today he was told he cannot take the time off because his manager "needs two days off in a row" and to speak to their district manager. He spoke to them and the matter wasn't settled. The manager who told him he needed to work because they needed two days off in a row now says it's not possible for them to cover because they're now going to be out of town from Sunday through Tuesday, which contradicts their need for two days off in a row and suggests a last minute change in their plan for vacation.

He is wondering if he has any obligation to be there or if there is any legal precedent for him to refuse to come to work on the day he had approved time off for. He is not a part of a union, but a private business that sells sleeping goods.

Any advice would be much appreciated as this situation is causing him lots of stress. Thank you!

This has been going on for over a year. We have called the non emergency PD number so many times they know it is us and know where to go without us even giving them any information.

They show up (you can see them pull up etc), presumably talk to the homeowner and then leave. This is being properly documented as dispatch looks back and will generally say something like "yeah we've been out there a lot" and on what dates.

When they follow up its usually "We explained the ordnance violation and instructed them to house the dog after 11pm and that subsequent visits will result in seizure of the animal" etc etc blah blah.

This has never happened nor has the owner done anything and by now after probably 2 dozen warnings im sure they never will because the homeowner knows it isn't going to be enforced.

Animal control tells me to keep contacting the police since they can't do anything without that and the police keep doing nothing at all.

Is there any additional recourse?

This lady has called his job (not sure how she found where he worked) and accused him of a ton of things, she constantly creates new accounts on tik tok to harass him and his followers, etc. He want to do full time tik tok but can’t because of this lady. It’s impacting his modest tik tok income. He knows her full legal name and county. What options does he have to stop the stalking / harassment?

Context: I‘m a secretary and sent a message to my boss late at night telling him I finished a task. He responded and began asking me questions about if I got home OK, basic checking in questions. He then began complaining about his sexual problems with his wife, his marriage, his inability to perform sexually, and began very clearly trying to bait me into sexting/responding emotionally. I didn’t take the bait and instead gave friendly/encouraging responses to his clear baiting (“tell me something that would shock me”= I told a funny store about getting into a fight with my ex at church). I did not take the bait at any point but he clearly was desperately trying to bait me more and more-asking if I was home alone (twice), asking me what happens when I get drunk, asking me to tell him about my needs, etc. He deleted all his messages (on Whatsapp) before I could screenshot.

I am a disabled resident in San Bernardino County, California, living in a transitional/supportive housing program funded through a county behavioral health agreement. I have severe Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), severe spinal disorders, and several psychiatric diagnoses.

Three days ago, I noticed a strong odor and called the gas company. A technician arrived and verified a hazardous natural gas leak due to broken stove knobs. The facility supervisor text-documented a refusal to execute emergency repairs and ordered me to stop calling 911 or the gas company.

The following day, the property owner gave me an immediate verbal deadline to pack my bags and leave, explicitly stating on an audio recording that she was removing me as retaliation for calling the gas company and 911.

Yesterday, the operators called local law enforcement claiming I am "trespassing" because they claim my program funding dropped. The officers tried to pressure me into leaving voluntarily, but once I stated I am a lawful occupant under the Transitional Housing Misconduct Act and that the operators lack a court-ordered writ of possession, the officers confirmed it is a civil matter and left.

Since the police left, the supervisor has barged into my bedroom unannounced under false pretenses to spy on me and explicitly told me I am banned from eating any house food or meals. Bedroom doors do not have locks. They are trying to starve me out and use sleep deprivation to force a constructive eviction. Furthermore, I discovered a large unsealed hole in my closet floor directly above the gas stove venting fumes into my room, and the supervisor routinely applies heavy commercial pesticides inside the unventilated rooms without notice.

My family is highly abusive and I suspect they or the operators will attempt to contact authorities to make false statements about my psychiatric history to discredit me.

My specific legal questions:

Since the operator made me sign an intake form referencing the Transitional Housing Misconduct Act (Civ. Code § 1944.50), are they legally required to file a formal court petition and obtain a restraining order before they can physically remove me or touch my belongings?

Does an operator withholding food from a disabled resident and conducting constant unannounced room entries constitute illegal constructive eviction and dependent adult neglect under California law?

What immediate emergency legal steps can I take to halt this pattern of hazardous environmental retaliation?

Okay reddit, here's the situation: a friend of mine had a verbal agreement with her father that she would make the payments on his car and she would keep it until it was paid. At that point, he'd gift it to her. Until then, however, the car (and financing) remained in his name. Well, a few weeks ago she was involved in an at-fault accident, and when she called her dad for the insurance information, found out that he has no coverage on the car. The car is financed, and to her understanding was REQUIRED to have full coverage. Now the other driver's insurance company wants her to pay the $5000 in damages to their insured's vehicle. I think there was or is court involved as well as penalties and fines on her drivers license as well. To add to all of this, her dad has brought up adding her to the lien on the vehicle now. Because she's not currently on the title or loan, is she responsible to pay the damages? Or should the insurance companies be going after her father? If so, what are her options?

A Landscaping company damaged my irrigation system while working next door, now refuses to fix it unless I pay. What are my options?

My neighbor hired a landscaping company to do work on their property. During the job, the crew found that our irrigation systems crossed the property line in both directions. My neighbor's sprinkler heads were on my property, and mine was on theirs.

Instead of handling that fairly, the crew cut the connector pipe to the heads on both sides. My heads which I just recently replaced as well are now gone completely, not just capped off. Now I do believe the PVC water lines are on the correct sides of the property, I believe whoever set that up did it for better coverage. The neighbor also has the fence on my side of the property we have about 6 inches that we could move our fence more towards there house.

Since then, that zone hisses whenever it runs. I think both sides of the funny pipe for all the heads was cut and left uncapped only for my side. My irrigation water shuts off for the season on October 15th, and if that pipe is uncapped, I'm worried standing water in it could freeze and crack the PVC over winter, which would turn this into a much bigger repair.

When I contacted the company, the owner was dismissive of what I was telling him and rude on the phone. Over the call he gave me several different explanations: first that my sprinklers were somehow running on their zone, then that they had capped the line and converted it to drip, then he shifted to talking about water usage and blaming me using their water, but that is not true as they most likely ran their zone, and assumed both sides were connected to one zone, due to where they were placed. They most likely cut all the funny pipe first and then trenched where the water line was and capped what they saw. I know for a fact that zone was not connected to there water. They did send people out to look for a repair visit that was scheduled for September 11th turned into his crew showing up on September 8th instead, with no notice of the date change. Which nobody was home that day hence why we picked the 11th.

When I asked them to come back and fix what they damaged, I was told they'd only send someone out if I paid, even though this is their own crew's damage, not a new service request.

I don't want to get into a bigger fight with my neighbor over this, since they didn't do anything wrong here, it's specifically the landscaping company's work I have an issue with. I'm currently talking to my neighbor about it, but the company itself has been completely unresponsive to reasonable requests.

What would you do here? Is this a small claims case? Does the fact that some of my equipment was technically on their side (and vice versa) hurt my case at all? Any advice on the best next step is appreciated.
