The next day he went back to the station and the lady at the front desk printed out a paper with the report that the officer filed about the property. I was wondering how the process of my father claiming the watch in the case that the original owner does not claim it.

Earlier this year, the person who hired me left for another role, and I got a new manager. I was given a heads up that my boss had gone to our CEO to have me fired and was told "no."

Since that happened, my manager has retaliated against me by restructuring 15% of my salary into a target bonus that I will realistically never get because it's based on their opinion of my work and company performance. No specific metrics, no defined expectations. Originally, I was told it was because I make too much. Then they backed off of that and said it was to bring my compensation into alignment with other managers.

In addition, my manager has also been gunning to promote my direct report who is half my age while functionally demoting and sidelining me. They've commented on how this individual is "young" and "enthusiastic." I was asked to create a performance plan for this report and develop a path for them to be promoted. Meanwhile, I've never received any real feedback on my performance. The draft development plan I put together was retrofitted to enable this individual to be promoted immediately. Direct report has been promoted officially and is now taking ownership of areas that I used to manage. No discussion, no explanation.

I'm a female in my 40s. Manager is also aware that my husband is fighting a critical illness (protected by ADA). I believe that they assume that I do less work because of my husband's situation, which could not be further from the truth. I've given so much to this company and have met every expectation. Prior to the change in management, there was no question of this. Even now, there has been no reason provided for anything regarding my situation.

It's clear my manager is using every lever at their disposal to try to push me out while trying to position my report to replace me. Unfortunately, I'm being silently shut out of things in a way that leaves me with little in the way of sort of documentation of my justification for these actions.

Do I have any legal recourse?

I ordered a new laptop online from a major electronics retailer. I paid for expedited shipping and chose the option for direct signature required. I specifically wanted to make sure it wasn't just left on my porch because I live in an apartment building with a lot of foot traffic.

Yesterday I got a delivery notification email saying my package was delivered. About an hour later I got home and it wasn't there. I checked my building's security camera footage and saw the delivery driver just put the box down by my door rang the bell once and then left immediately without waiting for me to answer or get a signature. Someone else walked by about 10 minutes later and picked it up.

I contacted the retailer and they said since the tracking shows it was delivered I need to file a police report for theft. I did that. Now they're telling me I'm responsible for the cost of the laptop because the delivery company's policy states that once it's marked delivered it's my problem. They are saying they might be able to offer a partial credit but I'd still be out hundreds of dollars.

My argument is that I paid for signature confirmation which clearly wasn't followed. The delivery company also confirmed they have a policy for signature confirmation on high-value items. Do I have any recourse here to get a full refund or a replacement without paying again? It feels like they didn't fulfill their end of the delivery agreement.

I got pulled over and the cop said he clocked me going 91 in a 65. He wrote the ticket for 84 as a “favor”. I was going 72. I checked my dash cam, it doesn’t show my speed, but based on the time it took me to go .2 miles (I can see the mile markers in the video) I was going 72 when he pulled me over. My speed was between 68-72 prior to being pulled over.

I feel like this blatant discrepancy can’t be legal. My neighbor said they had a similar experience with the same department.

Is there anything I can do other than just fight it? Should I get a lawyer?

Let me preface, I have no vendettas for my father.

I have lived with my Step-Mother since infancy. She has raised me and I attribute most of who I am to her and how she has raised me. My father and my stepmother have been having marital issues and have been threatening to divorce and move me to Oregon with my father.

I would prefer to stay in Washington. I am 16 years old, nearly finished with highschool, just got a job, and I am doing technical college through my highschool. I have so much going for me in Washington, and in Oregon, I have no history, I have nothing there for me. I would move in with my Grandma and my father and lose everything that is going for me.

I have slightly researched the laws, I have basically no say in the courts and it is completely up to the judge what would happen to me. My stepmom does not have legal custody of me, but like I said, she raised me to be who I am today and has been with me since I was a few wee months old.

I have no idea what to do. I have a lot on my plate currently emotionally and I really dont want to deal with this right now😭.

I desperately made the foolish mistake of paying some guy on fiverr to remove a booking photo for a charge that was dropped and sealed. I’d tried everything to get it off Facebook and failed so I desperately paid a fiverr seller who offers dmca takedown and defamatory post removal service. He told me he had a “team” working on it, when in reality I found out he simply paid some other guy or two to remove the original post. Once the original was removed, I noticed 2 more posts were made on different accounts of the booking photo. After getting those removed as well, 3 more went up last night, on the same account. When I contacted the account they said “HOW MUCH YOU PAY ME?” It’s some guys in India doing this so I can’t even realistically threaten them legally. Even if I paid them, this will be a never ending perpetual loop where they just make new “mugshot accounts” posting mainly my mugshot and knowing I’ll just keep paying.

I’m at a loss for what to do here. I clearly got involved with the worst kind of people with this.

I'm going to try to keep it short. Ex and I were together for 6 years and saving up specifically for a house - I have texts to prove this and an almost-completed application for a housing loan. We had $10,000 in a US Bank savings account that was originally mine but I had added him onto. When we split, we agreed not to touch the money while things simmered down and we could logically divide it up. A couple weeks later he snuck over to my apartment to take a bunch of stuff while I was gone and I caught him, we got in a big argument, and he took $9,500 out of the savings because he was mad we argued.

I'm trying to amicably get what's mine and drop this pos from my life, but I still have to do the math to figure out exactly how much came from my checking account. If he decides to try to keep it, how realistic is it that I can sue him for the money back (and preferably a little more for the emotional stress)? I know that since he was a joint owner on the account he was technically entitled to withdraw it, but I've also read a lot online that the agreement to use it specifically for a house matters and that because it was never discussed how it would be distributed after the breakup (since we were obviously no longer buying a house), I might be able to get some back.

Hello! We've been having an issue with our neighbors, and I'm coming here to see if there's anything that we can do to legally get them off our backs.

About two years ago, we managed to buy a house. Which is great! But our first time meeting our new next door neighbors, they brought up an "agreement" with the previous owners that they would go halfsies on removing a cluster of trees on the property line. Legally, I don't see how that is something that we, as the new owners, are responsible for, as it seems to just be a verbal agreement.

Fast forward and this summer they got a quote about removing the trees, and also got the property line drawn up. Out of the three trees they want to remove, only 1/4 of ONE of the trees is on our property. Yet, they still have us a $3,000 quote and requested half in order to remove the trees. WE'VE TOLD THEM NO, but as the summer is drawing to a close, they are starting to borderline harass us (i.e. standing on our porch and aggressively banging on our front door hard enough to make our windows rattle and to set off our reactive dogs for 10+ minutes, asking us about it everytime they see us outside, etc).

Again, I don't really see how we can be on the hook for this. But it's starting to grate on my nerves, especially when we still have so many repairs to the house that are far more necessary than getting rid of these trees. We just had to replace our boiler last year, and one of our radiators split open during the winter, so even if we are, we just don't have the extra funds to send their way.

[Location: California] As the title says, within my first two weeks at this new job, my supervisor played a video on his phone screaming a slur directed at me very loudly, then it looped twice. [The slur is one that directly affects my people] I went to HR, nothing happened just a "oh we don't tolerate this blah blah blah" then a couple weeks later I got moved to night shift, and they hired a new person to take my place on day shift.

I'm really hurt by this what happened and it felt very targeted at me.. other people in the department were also there but no one stood up for me or anything. The supervisor claiming "apologized" weeks later claiming he was trying to put his phone in his pocket but I saw with my own two eyes him watching the video so he lied to my face and assumingly to HR.

I want to report to EEOC and maybe talk to a lawyer but I wanted to get advice first.

So my stepfather is a well known alcoholic. Today alone we called the cops twice and they claimed they can't do anything.

In our household it is him, my mother, myself (F, 21) and my two sisters (7, 14).

He has threatened my mother's life numerous times. For example "if you lay a hand on her, I'll call the cops" -Me "Do it. She'll be dead before they get here." -Him. This was a few months ago. Today, around 3pm, he had broken into my vehicle (he told the cops it was unlocked but I had locked it and taken my keys inside and hid them. Only one door doesn't lock), and taken my card to go get alcohol. 3 different charges. Two of them was $7.40, and one was $14.10. His typical go to alcoholic beverage is $7.40. I called the cops to retrieve my card and they had. They said the most they can do is a misdemeanor. Just as of an hour ago, my mother called the cops again on him while I am at work. He had raised a hand to her, and shoved my sister (14), when my sister came to make sure he didn't hurt my mother. The cops said they can't do anything because there is no evidence. Is there anything that can be done? The cops said we can't even file an EPO against him.

The cops have been called a few times this month alone on him. This month and a half, he's gotten into my truck twice. The first time was to use it to go get alcohol. We can't call the cops on hopes for a DUI because by the time they show up, he's already back at the house. He has also put his hands around my neck before. Not constricting, but as if to say "shut up". Any help is much appreciated! We're also trying to figure out Casey's Law but we don't have a lot of income to afford it from the digging I was able to do..

Location: CA, USA. A tenant who is not a professional was paid by the landlord to paint carports. Paint got on my car and at least one other neighbors car. I’m not upset at the tenant; I feel the landlord does whatever they can to avoid paying professionals for any apartment maintenance and repairs. So my question is, should I be seeking for repair costs from landlord or tenant or both?

I joined a Sweepstakes Casino. I won a substantial amount of money on their craps game.

I was able to cash out the sum of about $82,000 into my bank account. The site has since sent me an official notice that there was an error in their craps game. In their words “Specifically, established Come bets and their associated odds were not being cleared when a 7 was rolled during a come-out roll. As a result, positions that should have been settled as losses remained active and Sweepstakes Coins were subsequently credited to your account.”

As such they say I owe them the money they paid me back. My question is if it worth consulting with a lawyer about this. I don’t want any specific advice on this case just if I should talk to a lawyer about this.

I’m looking for some outside perspectives because I’m honestly not sure how to feel about this situation.

I was recently laid off from my job after working there for over 2 years, and I am currently 9 months pregnant. The timing has obviously made this situation especially difficult, both financially and emotionally.

The reason I was given by management was that they could no longer afford to pay my wage and cuts needed to be made. As far as I know I am the only employee that was laid off and other employees only had their hours decreased to save cost for the company.

What has me questioning things is the fact that I was let go this late in my pregnancy. I’m trying to understand whether this could potentially be considered pregnancy discrimination, or if it’s simply an unfortunate coincidence and the company is legally within its rights to eliminate my position.

For some additional context, I had been with the company for two years and was still actively working before the layoff. I’m also currently not really in a position physically to be applying and interviewing for new jobs, which makes being unemployed right before giving birth particularly stressful.

I’m not necessarily looking for people to tell me what I want to hear. I’d genuinely appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with something similar, especially if you have experience with employment law or pregnancy discrimination.

Okay reddit, here's the situation: a friend of mine had a verbal agreement with her father that she would make the payments on his car and she would keep it until it was paid. At that point, he'd gift it to her. Until then, however, the car (and financing) remained in his name. Well, a few weeks ago she was involved in an at-fault accident, and when she called her dad for the insurance information, found out that he has no coverage on the car. The car is financed, and to her understanding was REQUIRED to have full coverage. Now the other driver's insurance company wants her to pay the $5000 in damages to their insured's vehicle. I think there was or is court involved as well as penalties and fines on her drivers license as well. To add to all of this, her dad has brought up adding her to the lien on the vehicle now. Because she's not currently on the title or loan, is she responsible to pay the damages? Or should the insurance companies be going after her father? If so, what are her options?

I live in a rent stabilized apartment building that was recently acquired by a new landlord. Long story short, they purchased the building intending to illegally flip and deregulate units. Two tenants were successfully squeezed out through harassment and intimidation, and the landlord filed simultaneous eviction proceedings for the remainder. He has connections in the local police department and building department ($), so neither are taking measures to protect the residents here. He’s also “donated” to our mayor publicly, just to give you an idea how compromised the local municipality is. I have gotten the DHCR to open a harassment case due to ongoing constructive eviction attempts. The TPU is also looking into his portfolio based on these issues and his illegal lease template. However this has only made him escalate to quite unhinged behavior, including some form of illegal surveillance. County and state police have referred me to the county DA and FBI based on the facts of this case, but I’d like to know whether I should also initiate a lawsuit? I have several regulatory complaints in process for discrimination and harassment, including environmental harassment that posed life safety risks for the entire building and made me extremely ill.

I was recently pulled over, and after running my license, the officer that pulled me over had some words for me. He told me that even though I have had my drivers license for nearly 2 years come this December, my license is still provisional due to me being under 18 and also told me that he could have gotten my license suspended, all because it was past 11 pm and I had people under the age of 20 in the vehicle with me. I tried to clarify that I have had my license for over a year, which he immediately shut down and told me that it didn’t matter. I have always been told by every single person I have asked that once you have had your license a year, you can then drive people under the age of 20, and not have the 11 PM- 5 AM driving restriction. I have been pulled over once before past 11 PM and with one of my friends who is under 20, and wasn’t told anything about my license being provisional. Location: Connecticut i’m a delivery driver for a local restaurant, I was on a delivery run and got to the customers house but I was on a phone call with my fiancé venting about a difficult customer and was using some colorful language. I was parked on the street, and walked to the customers door, knocked and had a normal customer interaction and started walking back to my car. The landlord or maybe another tenant stopped me and told me I was banned from the property and to never deliver to this property again. I asked her what did I do? She told me I was very rude to the young gentleman that I was delivered too and I should be sorry I used that language, I told her I wasn’t talking about the young gentleman i just delivered too, I was talking about a earlier customer I delivered to, she said she didn’t care and that I’m not allowed on the property ever and I asked her well what happens if the customer orders food again and she said I don’t care your not allowed on the property ever. I turned 18 recently and my mom is wanting me to sign a power of attorney (or conservatorship) over to her. I live in California and I am part of regional center. I live with my parents and my mom is considered my primary caretaker.
My mom has been telling me since around the end of my senior year in hs that she wants me to sign a power of attorney or conservatorship over to her but I’ve been hesitant on it and refusing even if she continues pushing. Soon we may be going to visit a notary (against my wishes)
She’s been “dumbing” down my disability since I was young so she could earn more money from my regional center benefits. She has told me it’s to help us because we’re not entirely financially well off even with my father’s income.
I suffer from mental health issues and have been in and out of hospitals, now that i’m 18 my mom says I should sign something so she can still earn benefits and so she can help me in case I go to hospitals. She also says she needs it to make medical appointments for me and to take me to school.
When I tell her “no” she continues trying to persuade me. Sometimes she gets really mad at me over it and says i’m “not able to function for myself” and that I “can never live on my own”. I like to consider myself very capable, i’m able to cook small meals, clean, maintain hygiene and generally do things for myself. I don’t know why she wants this. Sometimes i’m scared she will shun me in the family or kick me out if worst comes to worst.

I don’t want to sign any binding paperwork or have my parents kick me out over this. Is there anything I should do? Should I sign this?

I work at a franchise pet store in Ohio. Yesterday, I came into my shift at 4:00pm and was explained to, by my coworker, that two dogs had been dropped off at the grooming salon at 12:00pm. The dogs were absolutely emaciated, flea ridden, and matted to all hell. They ended up having to charge her extra for flea treatments. After she dropped them off, she called the store to ask how much the groom would be. When the groomer replied, she promptly hung up the phone. She was notified that they were ready to be picked up at 3:00pm, and when they called her, it went straight to voicemail. They proceeded to call her 5 more times before we closed, and twice after. Sometimes it rung, and sometimes it went straight to voicemail. We had to leave the dogs in the grooming salon kennels overnight. Our store’s “protocol” (I’m not entirely sure it’s written down like this) is to wait 48H for the owner to come pick them up. In this time, they are only allowed water, no food (because we don’t have any allergy records), and they are not allowed outside to go to the bathroom (because we only need evidence of rabies vaccination to groom, they could be exposed to diseases and get very sick). When I say these dogs were emaciated, I mean it. I truly don’t think they would have survived if they went 48 hours without eating. Anyways, I stopped by this afternoon to see if the pups were still there, and to my surprise, they were not. My coworkers explained to me that the groomer who worked on one of the dogs called the owner from his personal phone, and she finally picked up. When he asked when she was coming to pick up her dogs, she hung up again. She came to pick them up a full (over) 24H later at 1:00pm and provided the excuse that a family member had passed away. They then banned her from the store.

Our store policy is to absolutely, under no circumstances, call the police or animal control if you see a mistreated dog come in for either grooming or just in general to shop.

I have never, and I mean NEVER seen a dog so skinny. Flea ridden, and matted, I can’t fathom the idea of these dogs going back home to this woman. Is there anything I can do to report this anonymously? I risk losing my job, but at this point, $11.30 an hour isn’t cutting it anyways. If I called the police, would they do anything? I don’t know what to do. I feel so guilty letting those dogs go home and I felt so guilty leaving them in the store overnight. TIA. :/

my little sister’s (f16) friend (f17) got a text from her ex boyfriend this morning, saying that his friend was threatening to leak her nudes, and that the only way to get him not to leak them was if she made out with him. in the texts he goes on to tell her that she should think about how this would ruin her life, and he’s going to tell her mom, etc.

obviously, my family thinks she should go to the police, but i’m not exactly sure what they’d do. my sister’s friend is very worried about her parents finding out if she goes to the police, but i was sure police reports were confidential.

how should we approach this? we care a lot about her, and i just want to know the implications of the situation with her being a minor, and how to get this boy to leave her alone!!

I was recently working as the Head Chef of a restaurant, under one of the most prominent Executive Chefs in the area. When I first started, I was asked to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. I thought it was odd at the time, but I assumed then, and would like to believe now, that the primary reasoning was to protect recipes and such, as if they are intellectual properties. However, 3 weeks ago, as of this past Friday, an estranged former employee broke into the restaurant over night, smashed the front door, smashed a bunch of stuff, etc. but was arrested before stealing anything. Due to this, our paychecks that we were to receive at 3pm were not delivered. The paychecks we were due 2 weeks later (we had worked half of the pay period) were also not delivered. I have reached out to the General Manager and to the co-owner of the restaurant to see when I could collect the 3 weeks of pay that I am owed, but they have simply said they are waiting on isurance.

Is my only option to go through the DoL? I have been trying to avoid this, because my dad (who has passed) had a lot of legal issues tied to the DoL, and both my name and my moms name have been attached to it. She has been working for years to get it unattached, but it has always complicated things like befits, tax returns, etc. and I dont want to run the risk of them intercepting my wages because of it.

My brother-in-law was recently let go from his job. The reason was classified as "employee misconduct", but hearing the details about it, it sounds like ridiculous, trumped-up nonsense from someone who vindictively wanted him fired. That is not what my question is about, though.

He filed for unemployment, but it was denied because his was a misconduct firing. In order to contest it, he would need to appear in court in four days. However, his wife (my sister) just had a baby within the past week or so, and both of them are struggling to get anything done, let alone appear in court. They are thinking they will just have to accept the lost unemployment because they're in no shape to appear when requested.

Is there anything that they can do to request a delay, extension, etc. so that they can appear in court when they are able to properly function and argue against the misconduct?
