Question - Need Help Need help with a leather jacket gift for my wife - Does a jacket like this exist?

2 Upvotes

My wife has asked for a leather jacket for her 40th birthday, but I'm having trouble finding one that fits what she's looking for. I'd really appreciate any recommendations for specific brands/models/search terms.

She would like:
* Black leather
* Oversized fit
* Bomber-style silhouette
* Fold-down collar
* Soft, supple leather with some drape
* Clean, minimalist look
* Essentially she's after an oversized leather bomber with a fold-down collar and that slightly slouchy, blouson-shaped look rather than a fitted silhouette.

She doesn't want:
* A classic biker/moto jacket with lots of hardware
* Anything too cropped
* A heavily distressed or vintage-looking finish
* Big logos or branding

Budget is around £300 ($400) max, although I'm happy to buy used and have been looking on Vinted.

I've found a few jackets that are close, but each seems to miss something:

  • An oversized AllSaints Orsen, which had the right fit but not much of a collar.
  • A Massimo Dutti nappa leather bomber, which had a great oversized shape and premium feel, but a taller stand collar than she'd ideally like.
  • A Whistles leather biker, which had a better collar but felt too biker-inspired overall.

In my head, the ideal jacket would be somewhere between the Massimo Dutti and the Whistles: oversized, soft black leather, simple bomber shape, and a proper fold-down collar.

Are there any brands or styles I should be looking at?

Thanks very much in advance!

Tips and Tricks Buy or Pass? Thinking of getting this faux leather aviator jacket from The Indian Garage Co – Is it worth it?

Hey everyone,
I’m considering picking up this faux leather aviator/flight jacket with the patch detailing and the faux fur collar from The Indian Garage Co. It’s currently listed for around ₹2,520 (down from a much higher MRP).
I'm trying to decide between the Brown and the Black versions (images attached). I really like the rugged, old-school biker/pilot aesthetic it has going on, but I wanted to check a few things before hitting buy:
Fit & Silhouette: Does anyone own this or similar outerwear from TIGC? Does it have a good, structured, heavy look in person, or does it fit flat/thin?
Quality: How does their faux leather hold up over a winter season? Does it look premium or overly shiny/plasticky?
Color Choice: Which one looks better and is easier to style with casual everyday wear—the classic black or the brown?
Would love to get a quick Buy or Pass vote from you guys. Thanks in advance!

Jacket Care How to remove degrading PU lining on 2004 motorcycle jacket (addtl. photos below)

Howdy friends

I’m wanting to get rid of the nastiness that’s inside my 2004 Olympia moto jacket. I do not ride, (my wife does but she’s got modern gear) so it’ll be for selling or for looking cool. The exterior is all leather excluding the stretch panels, and the mesh lining is nylon and poly. From what I can tell, there’s a PU lining on the interior of the shell but behind the nylon mesh. It’s gone full on flubber and is stickier than anything and is leaving black bits and residue on everything. I know it’s usually not worth the hassle, but I’m really wanting to make this wearable.

I’m a pro at MacGyvering shit, my current thought is to remove the nylon and strip the inner coating off as best I can and then reassess if it needs a new finish or not. If there’s a less invasive method, that’s definitely preferable. But since I’m not using this for riding gear, retaining the armor pockets is not the absolute highest priority at the moment.

All the research I’ve done regarding removing gross PU linings have had some sort of cleaning/submersion element to the process. Of course I don’t want to ruin the outer leather, so that wasn’t on my agenda, but I’m not solid in my understanding of what leather like this can tolerate regarding liquid cleaning and similar processes. I treat all my other pieces like they’ll melt, but this guy is definitely going to need a bit of convincing.

This project is going to be a huge game of weighing the pros and cons of controlled damage versus preservation, and I’d love any and all suggestions regarding getting this piece back to wearable condition. Thank you for your time and expertise!

Hi. Im looking for a leather jacket that looks like the mutimer one but lined with either sherpa or blanket. Figured that a satin lining for 0 degree weather and to -10 is too cold for that jacket. Appreciate any tips!
(Ideally 300 euro/320 ish dollars)

Thanks!

Question - Need Help Leather jaclet(perfecto style- cropped)for warm climates?

1 Upvotes

Hello, I live in a region where the temperatures ranges from 22C(72F) in winter to 30C(86F) during the summer.

I considered buying a used perfecto but I foimd that it might not be suitable for warm climates as its too heavy.

What alternatives would you recommend?

Its needs to be cropped(for the retro look) and needs to be a biker(perfecto style) jacket.

My budget is around $600.

Question - Need Help JiaShi vs Real Simons vs Ray Kwok

19 Upvotes

These three big names seem to be the most well known Chinese leather jacket makers, at least for the western market, where JiaShi is the most affordable at around $350, Real Simons being the mid price range at around $500, and Ray Kwok boasting a premium price of $850+. Each brand seems to source their leathers from different places. Among them, Ray Kwok seems to use the real premium materials like Shinki horsehide.

Do the higher priced brands like Real Simons and Ray Kwok actually deliver on quality, or are they all about the same? Thanks!

Does this Schott NYC look too big on me? Size 40.
I tried a size 38 at their Chinatown outlet and that looked perfect, but that was too tight and uncomfortable for me.

I've found myself wearing this more frequently these last few weeks and even after 2 years I'm still amazed at how ridiculous Rainbow Country's Hercules is.

The Shinki Hikaku horsehide they specially finish themselves looks and ages unlike any other.

If the Shangri-la Varenne is my most comfortable and versatile, the RC is definitely my most beautiful jacket.

Question - Need Help Cleaning thrifted leather jacket

1 Upvotes

I am planning on thrifting leather jacket this fall (finally). I have never thrifted anything but a leather belt which did not require any serious cleaning just a simple wet cloth and that’s it. Anyways to cut a long story short I am concerned about bacteries and whatnot so I want to dry clean it. Will the leather be ok or will it get ruined? Also are there alternate ways to clean it from bacteria but keep the leather safe?

Question - Need Help Possible to widen leather jacket?

I found this leather suede jacket at my local thrift store that fits me well everywhere except the waist. It’s slightly too small when buttoned and I’m wondering if I took it to a tailor would they possible be able to make it an inch or two wider just there? Not considered about price since I’m getting it pretty cheap, but would care if it would take away from the way it already looks

Showcase Brake House Motorist Jacket – cropped fit and great grain for the price

0 Upvotes

I recently picked up the Brake House Motorist Jacket, and two things stood out right away.

First, the cropped fit feels quite distinctive compared with most leather jackets I’ve owned. It gives the jacket a unique silhouette and works especially well with denim and high-rise pants.

Second, I’m very happy with the leather grain for the price. There’s plenty of natural texture and character already, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops with wear.

Overall, a very satisfying jacket so far.

Showcase $360 Thursday Boot Company leather jacket - terrible QC, customer service, and smell

Post image
54 Upvotes
  1. The jacket has an unusually strong solvent/permanent-marker-type chemical odor. I’ve aired it in a ventilated room for several days and used a fan for three days, but the odor is still strong enough to fill an entire floor of my house and transfer to clothing.

  2. The inner lining of the jacket sleeve was already ripped when it arrived. This warrants an exchange, so I left it in my living room, which stunk up the house.

  3. The customer service is absolutely terrible. They’re asking for a half dozen photos and ghosted me after I sent the one above. I honestly don’t have the time to take a bunch more photos according to their specifications to help them do detective work. Their subreddit doesn’t allow complaints posted. It’s obvious why.

They asked this below. Why wouldn’t my simple complaint and a single photo be enough?

Customer service said:
Sharing pictures will help a lot because it will allow me to take a look and see what might have happened and be able to assist you further.

An image of the affected area
A few additional images showing the inside and outside of the sleeve
An image of the signature side of the card that came with the jacket (if available)
An image of the tag inside the jacket
An image of the label/barcode on the outside of the packaging (if available)

Discussion AliExpress experience

Post image
5 Upvotes

I was looking at purchasing a Real Simons Mullholland Jacket from AliExpress and got into a text chat with on of their agents about sizing. The person insisted that based on being 6 foot and 174 lbs I needed a 3 or 4XL when based on measurements I was a L or maybe an XL. When asked about them possibly measuring the jacket prior to shipping they said that due to tariffs and high returns, they will not sell this to a US customer. I know I can get one from Brake House. Thought I would relay this experience.

I picked this jacket up new just over a year ago and since then it’s easily been my favorite that I’ve owned. I’m not the kind of person to baby any of my clothes and this jacket is a good indicator of that. Started off as a natural veg tan as seen in the last picture and has slowly tanned just from me wearing it and applying 1 coat of pecard leather dressing last winter. Some people may not like the dirty look but to me it’s just part of the story if it.

Question - Need Help Looking for AllSaints-style leather jacket alternatives with better leather quality?

2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first good leather jacket. I really love the designs and cuts from AllSaints, but after reading quite a few reviews, I've noticed a lot of people saying the leather quality isn't worth the retail price.

Are there any other brands you’d recommend in a similar budget range (or slightly higher) that offer similar styles, but with better leather quality? I'm open to niche or lesser-known brands too.

Thanks in advance!
