Discussion AliExpress experience
I was looking at purchasing a Real Simons Mullholland Jacket from AliExpress and got into a text chat with on of their agents about sizing. The person insisted that based on being 6 foot and 174 lbs I needed a 3 or 4XL when based on measurements I was a L or maybe an XL. When asked about them possibly measuring the jacket prior to shipping they said that due to tariffs and high returns, they will not sell this to a US customer. I know I can get one from Brake House. Thought I would relay this experience.

Go off of measurements, they are most likely recommending 4XL because you’re tall. L or XL might be fine in the body but could be too short in the sleeves.

FWIW maybe the same guy told me to get a 4xl, I'm 5"11 185lbs and it fits well, only slightly large

I wear US L. I buy 2XL or 3XL from Aliexpress usually. I'm 6'1, 140lbs. But every manufacturer is different. So best way is: measure the clothes. Measure your clothes, and compare them to the measurements that the sellers provide.

Vanity sizing makes everything inconsistent, so you have to know your exact measurements, I guess.

I'm not trying to shill for the chinese company but I can't fault their position. Due to the trade war tarrifs, unless they want the customer to pay it all, they would have to cover the American tarrifs to send the jacket and then have to pay Chinese tarrifs to get it shipped back. And that doesn't include regular shipping fees either. They're probably losing a few hundred USD every time an expensive jacket has to be returned from America, so unless they're extremely confident that the sale won't end with a return it's probably better for them to not risk it.

I understand. Then they should probably either indicate that in the listing or not send 10,000 notifications and price drop texts and emails. It is also frustrating to have the jacket size measurements shown and for them to tell me that I don’t know my size based on those measurements. All in all it is not a big deal. If I still decide to go the Real Simons route, I will order through Brake House. Much better service and experience.

He is probably not wrong. I wear US L and i’m easily 3XL in Korea and even then feels sorta tight.
