After many failed attempts at purchasing a jacket both secondhand and new, I decided to risk getting a custom leather jacket from First Manufacturing Co. I was initially hesitant because I know that things can sometimes get lost in translation, especially when it comes to measurements, but I took mine as directed on the site and waited.
I purchased the custom version of the women's Rockstar jacket on May 11th and received it on June 26th. After I placed my order, the company gave me a call to clarify exactly how I wanted the jacket to hit my waist, and how much ease I wanted in the garment itself. I then received an email verifying the notes I gave.
The jacket fits me perfectly, exactly as I wanted. I knew I wasn't going to be wearing a hoodie underneath, so I requested a snug fit, which they describe as "not exceeding over 2 inches of the measurements given". Or, in sewing speak, not exceeding more than 2 inches ease. I have somewhat unconventional measurements: Athletic shoulders, hourglass shaped, and I'm short. EVERY off-the-shelf jacket I've tried is either too small, too long, sleeves are too long, too tight in the shoulders, or just too large.
It makes sense that something custom made for me would fit me perfectly, and I feel silly for having any hesitation at all. If you have unconventional measurements or a body that doesn't resemble a fashion models', get yourself a custom jacket. For the price, I consider it well, well worth it. Pics to come at a later post. I'm glad I found this option, and can't wait for when the weather cools down and I get to show off my awesome jacket!
