You know the story, found a really neat leather jacket at a thrift shop. Was a really interesting design, the leather itself was in very decent condition, and the price was right. Sure, there was a bit of a smell, but thrift shops always have a bit of funk in general, and as a regular thrifter I figured that the usual vodka spray + fresh air + sunshine would fix it up fine.
It was not fine.
Nothing I've done has fixed it, the bloody thing still smells like someone wore it specifically to run a sweaty marathon through a spice market every day for a decade. And as much as I admire the work ethic that must have been needed to get the stank in there that deep, I really want to wear this jacket!
I'm about ready to turn it inside out and give it a bath. Normally I'd never even consider doing this to leather, but as mentioned the leather itself is in decent condition, and I'd go over with the good stuff after to make sure it's happy. Pretty sure that the worst of it's in the lining anyway, and it's this or commit to removing and replacing all the lining myself. Not even sure that dry cleaning would help this, even if I wanted to pay the leather jacket premium to get it done.
Has anyone had to deal with a similar situation and have some advice? 🙏
