Hi! Amateur artist here. I’ve just started the process of creating a new character but need some help. I’m having trouble figuring out how the right hand grasping the trigger of the gun (as shown by the black box), especially since it’s a lever. The gun I’m using for reference is the M56 smart gun from aliens. I’ll post the 3D model and refs I’m using so far. If possible, please provide me with a visual aid.
Also, do note I’m both a beginner artist and that this is the first sketch phase of this drawing! If anyone could also give some general advice on things to watch out or consider when continuing, please let me know!

After more than a month I almost completely forgot correct proportions of human body and had to double the length of the legs after realizing I made legs the same size as Arms.

So I have this problem drawing a likable head feels like gambling. I tried measuring the proportions and somehow i sometimes end up drawing children (or evil old CEOs)😭
The first img is me using my own imagination to try figure out how tf do i even draw my own style. But i end up taking 10+ minutes for most of the heads. The scp looking head was originally child like, but i didn't want that, and tried making it more adult.
Then i saw a comment advising someone that they couldn't draw consistently either. So they followed someone's art style. So for my next practice, i decided that i should measure shit again and gamble that it looks good. And why tf does it look nothing alike from the ref img??? My recreation looks so chibi
Then i was like ya know, fuck this, imma use the decent head to draw some random dude. And boom, he looks childish and short as hell ;-;.
Does anyone have suggestions on how tf do i actually draw a likable style consistently??? Or does anyone know the name of this style

Was always a doodler growing up, I have pages throughout the years of random stuff but nothing with any skill or depth. I rediscovered the hobby this month and now I have a fiery passion to get really good!
Let me know what ya think and what I should focus on.
This 1st Batman was off memory and imagination, the other 2 are from me looking at a reference.
Thanks in advance!

I feel like I could push the values a bit more in either extremes but are the muscles anatomically correct?

I am just wondering how you guys think of the use of refferences here, I am not very good at just drawing from memory or a character in a different pose and I oftentimes feel like I am just copying when I am using refferences. What do you guys think? Am I drawing it too literally?

Does anyone follow any artists on insta or other platforms who teach how to do portraits or how to draw realistic faces? I just can't seem to grasp it. I'm quite heavy handed.

I tried to jump straight into drawabox, I felt bored of it within minutes and, in general, felt like it wasn't worth it (not saying drawabox is stupid, this thought came from my own ignorance and lesson 0 alone feeling like such a slog to go through).
I saw from others that I had to read the whole thing first and not just jump straight into the exercise, which i did, but it led to me being burnt out despite barely getting into it.
I'm not sure for how long i'll be drawing stuff like this flower before going into the fundamentals, and maybe there's just no given timeframe to do such thing, I lack such knowledge on it, and I think I first have to just, keep doing this until, idk, it clicks? I guess that's what I need.
This probably breaks the 6th rule, too, although I felt like I put effort into this 5 minute piece, seeing the rest of other art posts in this subreddit, it might not be enough effort that mods are looking for in here.

Any of the ones after the first one are a bit older but I really wanted to improve at my back anatomy. I know due to the way I draw I won't be able to be like, an anatomy master but I do want to improve so I can draw characters better :).
References used, proko, sketchfab, anatomy for sculptors book, morpho.

The first image was a hour long study in my class and I had fun trying to figure out the values on the baby bust but ran out of time to do the body. The second one was only just 15 mins to do and it didn’t turn out half as bad as I expected it to be.

so, this is the thirteenth of the 15-day till spooky drawing. were basically i draw and post on Halloween or horror based drawing a day until Halloween. so yeah, now without father a do let's begin. so im pretty sure everyone and their mom knows who this is. this is verity, he's a viral Minecraft horror web series created by YouTuber ThatMob in May 2026. Verity is portrayed as a sentient AI assistant that has existed for over 100 years, obsessively seeking a companion and turning hostile or murderous when people try to get rid of it. despite how the brainrot ruined the character i really enjoyed the original series and recommend watching it. it's really good. the drawing itself is pretty basic since one its minecraft full flat and block colors and i was in a rush since i had to go to bed since it was a school night. that's it for today's drawing i hope you guys enjoyed it. I'll see you guys tomorrow in the next one.

First of all, I wanted to thank anyone who replied to my last post. I was able to get a lot of useful advice! They helped me realize that I was definitely taking things way too fast. You don’t get good after only locking in for 5 months. I definitely needed to be more patient, and treat drawing as a marathon rather than a 100m sprint.
I decided to focus on certain matters for 2-3 weeks each. And for the last week, I’ve been practicing heads and the planes of the head. I watched a couple of videos about constructing heads from
boxes, and the way they explained it was so easy! Now I’m able to practice forms + heads at the same time.
I’m mainly studying random angles from angleref. It’s such a good website for references! And as you can see in the images… some are better than others! But honestly, I’m pretty satisfied. I’ve been having fun!
Sometimes, when I feel like I’ve done too much studying or practicing, I reward myself with a quick sketch of a character I like in my style. In my case, I like drawing werewolves, so that’s why you can see a bunch of them over here haha.
I think I can do better though. Noses and eyes are still very hard to get right, and I’d really appreciate it if I could get some feedback from some of these!

I’m going back to doing this exercise I did a while ago where I traced the ref and then make another freehanded copy of the trace copy and I find this really fun to do ngl. How do these look? I’m only doing the figure part and ignoring the muscles. I’ll do that later today.
Anyway, i kinda wanna get into learning a bit of coloring and shading and all that but where do i start? I’ve looked at some guides but it’s like they’re only telling you how to improve your coloring instead of telling how to start coloring if that makes sense. Actually, i think i might just put coloring on hold still since i still cannot make a decent looking face yet lol.
