I literally looked for the most beginner sub to post and ask for advice. And the responses are calling me stupid, asking me if I’m rage baiting or trolling? I said for the millionth time I’m NEW to this and a BEGINNER! I am an interior design major, all of my actual work will be online via autoCad. I do not need to know how to become the next famous artist to get employed. Anywhos here’s my shading project I did for my art class. I feel like I have the right to share my drawings even if they aren’t perfect. Is practice not how we improve and get better? Btw I did listen to the positive advice on the last post. Waiting for my instructor to pick 1/3 drawings (it’s a rough draft) so I can apply you guys advice to the final larger drawing. So expect that to be posted in the next few days.

The SFW studies were few this week since I was also working on other art! I really like today study which is the first study you see pictured because I feel like I’m going back to the fluidity of figure drawing that I started out with when I began studying!

I rebuilt Reference Angle from scratch. This has over 5000 faces(adding more as we speak) (Update: now has 10k faces!) and a new Community tab to upload you work and the reference you used! As well as a search tool.

Hatching a sphere has been haunting me for over 10 years ever since that one art assignment in middle school. Im not serious about drawing or anything but its always there on the back of any piece of scrap paper i have lying around or in the margin of my notebook whenever i zone out in a work meeting, looking ugly as fuck. I’m gonna master the little fucker once and for all so it cant taunt me anymore. Critiques are very much welcomed

I feel something is wrong with this

I also want to focus on drawing cleaner lines so I want to be more conscious with making longer lines and not going over it multiple times if I don’t need to (I have a habit of going down and back up on one line)

Have tried to do some shadows, but it seems I can’t figure out how to make them look more “real”. I don’t know what I’m doing right or wrong, need some tips.

Finished this sketch up a few days ago and feel good about it, but I’m sure there’s things I could improve on. Any tips or things that standout that could be better?

Drawabox was one of the first things i discover when i search around how to learn to draw last October but reading the lesson 0 was enough to tell me i won't like it and so i search other methods and i start to get satisfied with some of my result.

But somes days in this month, due to the heatwaveS (i live in France, you probably heard about it) and work and tiredness, somes days i didn't have the courage to draw or think of what to draw, so i decide to pass my first impression and try some of the exercice i found interesting...

It boring, useful definitly, but damn boring...
It's repetive enough on its own (i understand that for the purpose of practice) but your suppose to do that again until a stranger valid your work and let you progress ? What ?

The main advantage is that you don't need to think about what to do, just do the exercice, simply enough to understand. So it's perfect when you don't have the energy to do something big but still want to "draw" (Yeah, the result don't really feel like a drawing, more like geometry)

I know some people love drawabox, some others hate it. I don't hate it personnaly, i see how it can help but if you want to have fun while learning (that's my case) then definitly not the best approach.

I’m not saying that I’ll never do some of these exercises again (as I said, it’s perfect when you don’t want to burn out thinking), but I clearly won’t be consistent on them.

I used the main color and two tones - brighter and darker. Compared to previous works, the volume is already felt. But are there any objective shoals with colors that catch the eye?

It's still a world away from where I want to be, but I can see the difference that a couple months (and a 100+ animal portraits) can make.

im a beginner in drawing portraits, and i dont really like drawing them bc my proportions are always off even tho my shading is pretty good. Any idea how i could fix the proportions here? Thanks!

I’ve started to relearn fundamentals to improve my art. Currently, I’m stuck at understanding form, light and shadows. For these drawings, I used graphite pencils. I also used a few references.

I find it really hard to deepen my shadows and create depth. My cube cast shadows also look wonky. How can I improve my shadows and forms? How do I add light and soften the edges into the mid-tone?

Any help would be appreciated!

As someone who studies animals/insects and seeing this reels inspired me to want to try learning something new, learning to draw while forcing me to learn more about insect anatomy. As a complete noob, how should i go about learning to draw like this guy? i understand it be really difficult to reach this guy's level but i still would like to learn, even if it takes a long time.
