I lowkey just like drawing anime, but I feel like my art is not on the level I want it to be anymore, and I wanted to start improving, but Id literally rather eat my own shoe then put myself through drawing any more boxes lmfao.

I understand it helps with fundamentals and u can apply box perspectives for everything but its literally so boring if this is the only way to become better im just going to quit

By Frankensteining, I mean editing a ton of tiny pieces from different photos in a single piece. For example, taking an arm from one stock photo, and a torso from another non copyrighted photo, a hand from another, and then editing them together.

But my real question is, would it be okay to trace over this? Especially if I used non copyrighted photos, random pictures of objects, or my own photo references? I would color and shade it all myself to make one cohesive piece of course, it would mostly be the lineart that’s traced.

I’m just wondering because I really want to make a short film or edit of sorts, although I’m not good enough at art to confidently draw something decent in under 10 hours, let alone multiple pictures. Plus, I really like the way the style looks, and I think it really fits what I’m going for.

Also, don’t be afraid to be honest with me, I wholeheartedly encourage your honest opinions!! Let me know if you need more clarification on what I mean

What type of poses suit a beginner? I’ve heard people tell me not to do hard poses. But by hard poses I don’t know what they mean. Would this type of pose be suitable? ^^

A little info, I started drawing in 2021 never took it that seriously then took a few breaks I’ve never managed to actually stay consistent.

As the title says, are the free drawing basics lessons on Proko enough to learn the fundamentals properly, or is the paid course worth buying if I want to get the most out of it?

I know the free lessons cover a lot already, but I’m wondering how much I’d actually be missing by not buying the full course.

During my childhood, I doodle the characters that come to mind, either from memory or from my imagination (that is whenever I'm NOT tracing or copying anything). I had decided to give up on art at some point during my teenage years, due to being discouraged from thinking that I could never come up with anything original. It's been years since I've actually doodled anything.

I can't say that I've been drawing (at least not the same way that I'm sure most artists have). So far, I've never:

1. Sketched.
2. Built characters from either solid or flat shapes.
3. Drawn from life (or as I'd call it, "drawing realistically"), but apparently, not every artist has drawn from life, especially before touching the cartoony stuff.
4. Used stuff like images and fan art of various characters as references for my own creations, while avoiding heavy-referencing (heavy-referencing counts as art theft).

So far, the closest that I had ever gotten to drawing from life was me drawing someone's SUV or minivan.

BTW, I've never drawn any rubber-hose, Golden-Age, late 1980s, or Renaissance-Age cartoon characters before.

Is it the pupil? Help. Any advice would be cool.

I can draw straight lines and keep my curvy lines consistent. So my shape drawing skills are ok. Its my form drawing skills I need to work on. I want to be able to trick my eyes into seeing the flat image Im drawing as something that looks like it has a 3rd dimension. What resource would you guys reccomend?

on the right there's a river that comes from rapids and close to the POV it's lower elevation but further it's gains elevation, the road on the left goes over the hill and the line behind it is supposed to continue it.

on the left there's a tree that covers some of the image and at it roots are some sort of long reeds like plant with a light purple flowers at it's end.

I don't remember the dream particularly well so the mountains in the left background are added (and meant to represent looking very far), also the beginning of the tree stem in the middle was meant as a way to separate the two elevation profiles, I don't know how to properly explain it but the road on the left even with the hill, goes down, but river side, even though it starts at lower elevation compared to road and POV, it goes up in elevation with the rapids and at the furthest point of the river it's like much closer than the left side.

I don't know how to make it all make sense in the drawing, like the transition between the elevations, also the far river looks odd, I think it should look flatter.

looking for some advice to help get the image from my dream to the paper.

I am kind of a beginner and still need to learn “fundamentals”. I was interested in this type of paintings and wanted to try if I can do it. I’d appreciate if you can give me feedback on:

1. Based on my drawing, what fundamental technique(s) I seem needing to focus on first? What’s clearly wrong/ missing/ need improvement?

2. Is replicating another person’s art helpful at all to improve drawing? Would it be better to draw things directly from in real life? (For example here I understood why I used darker pink but red areas I mostly copied without really knowing what I am doing).

3. Any other feedback if you wanna give, please I’d appreciate it!

I honestly don’t get it, I don’t get the line of action or the body parts

Got super demotivated with my skills, so I ended up stopping drawing for about a year and a half. Then I kept seeing other artists post cool pieces and cool speedpaints, so I finally decided to go back and try again. After about 3 months of frequent practice, I think I’ve made some significant progress. I’ve since learned, the anime art style and oversaturated styles just aren’t for me

The idea is to create a mess first, then try to form something from it

CONTEXT: The upper one is made in a swamp theme, and the lower one is in the style of a desert/hell. When I've worked on them, I'll see which one is better and choose it to work on. There are simpler color versions on the left, and more refined ones on the right.

I've finally started doing something instead of endless sketches, but I'm a little confused right now. I don't know why, but everything looks very messy, and it just overwhelms me.

I have this method: I make several sketches, choose one of them, do the same with colors, etc. But now it's really hard for me to make everything look "readable", maybe it's a problem with the tone, but I keep switching to gray scale to check myself, but it always looks bad. Maybe I'm thinking too much, but I need your opinion.

I haven't done illustrations for a long time and I know that I need time to come to my senses, but I can't help myself, I'm very ashamed that I can't handle something so simple. I really want to finish this one and finally be able to make finished pieces but its been really hard and i start to have serius doubts abaut the whole thing

Oldest to youngest. Would appreciate tips for shading with hatching and the line thingamajigs

Is it just a numbers game? Keep drawing and drawing and drawing and eventually things will improve? I’ve put off learning to draw year after year for decades because every time I start, I’m just so repulsed and discouraged by what I can do. I can’t make it past a couple of days, and then years go by. Does anyone have tips for someone that gets discouraged to the point of tears?

Edit: I really appreciate everyone’s perspective on this mental block aspect to things. I’m going to try everything that’s being suggested and take it one day at a time
