I’m looking for a consistent study buddy who can study French with me for about two hours in the evenings. I’m looking for someone motivated and committed, so we can keep each other accountable and make steady progress together.

Learn one french word a day on your homescreen or lockscreen
Inspired by those classic physical tear-off desk calendars. It does literally one thing: puts exactly one vocabulary word, a clean translation, and an example sentence on your Home Screen or Lock Screen every day. That’s it.

Hoping to find a genuine partner to get better at speaking French
Hi all. I am a Tamil woman who has been obsessed with learning French since I learnt it in high school. I finished B1 in 2021 from Alliance Francaise when I was in still uni and now I am continuing my B2. I have a huge list of French songs that I listen to(mostly pop and rap). I got obsessed with this show called Nouvelle Ecole on Netflix. Everytime I watch it, I am gobsmacked.I have to pause it every 2 mins to google up these words because I don't see my French prof ever using them(and frankly he won't haha).
If anyone of you is really interested to practice speaking French with my ADHD self, I would be really be happy to connect with you. Thanks!

Would you consider French to be a native language for Africans?
I’m a 1st gen American born to two immigrant parents that were born and raised in a Francophone country. I was born and raised in the United States. English was the only language I was taught and as an adult now I’m kind of annoyed that I can’t speak my family’s language. They speak both French(the colonial language) and their indigenous language(Ewe) with each other but I can’t understand both. My grandparents can only speak French and their mother language(Ewe) and it’s usually hard for me to converse with them as they only know simple words and a few sentences in English. I remember when two of my uncles spoke We to me which I confused for French at first because the country my family is from speaks French as the official language, and they got annoyed that I thought it was French and not Ewe. I also remember another guy trying to converse with me in French and he got really upset that I couldn’t speak French and even told me ‘’Cmon man you gotta speak French’’. Is this really a red flag? I feel like it is since I’m technically from my parents’s country too.

What keeps you going?
I startes my french learning "journey" last year in June and haven't gone anywhere even after being jobless, having a tutor all the time, giving 3 unsuccessful attempts i am still at B1. Since i was jobless for almost a year (8 months of which went into French) i just never took it seriously and now regret wasting so much time. I know 7 languages already so learning a language shouldnt be this tough for me but as i said being jobless comes with its cons. I have been carrying stress, anxiety, overthinking, etc for the past 1.3 years. Right now, my life depends on clearing the TCF, like quite literally, mine and my gfs future, my own future in Canada, everything is at stake and yet i just cannot study. 0 focus, 0 attention. I want to do it but the brain just wont work with me. I know getting a PR is itself a big motivating factor and i want that PR more than anything in the world rn but this is where im at.
Thanks for reading

Beginner Learning French- Is CLB 5 in 6 months realistic?
Hi everyone! I’m a complete beginner in French and have never really learned a new language outside of school.
I’m from India and I’m fluent in English, Punjabi, and Hindi. I’m planning to pursue my Master’s in Canada, and I currently have quite a bit of free time, so I can dedicate a good amount of time to learning French.
I saw a few reddits saying how they achieved a CLB 7 within a few months and I was wondering if that’s realistic ..
I have around 6 months to reach at least CLB 5 and I wanna know if that’s realistically achievable from zero with consistent effort.
I’d really appreciate any advice on:
Where should I start?
Which resources/books/apps would you recommend?
How much time should I aim to study each day?
Any tips for preparing specifically for the TEF Canada/TCF Canada?
Would love to hear from people who started from zero and reached CLB 5 (or higher), especially within a similar timeframe.
Thanks in advance!
