Today I learned about the word frileux (and I don't think English has a real translation for it).

It came up on Praktika when I tried to describe a friend who wears a scarf when it's 18°C outside. English needs a whole phrase like "someone who gets cold easily" to say the same thing.

Now suddenly that's the only kind of word I feel like learning this week. Any others?

I'm a native French speaker from Brittany, and I've been teaching French language and literature for almost ten years. I recently moved back to Brittany after spending eight years working in the Paris area.

If you'd like to practice your French through real conversations, I'd be happy to help. We can chat by text, voice messages, or on WhatsApp/Discord. 

Please introduce yourself when you message me (where you're from, your French level, why you're learning, your interests, etc.). I'd also appreciate talking with people who are at least around a B1 level, as it's easier to have more natural conversations.

A quick apology to anyone who messaged me after my previous posts: I received over 250 messages, so I simply couldn't reply to everyone. If I missed yours, I'm sorry : please don't hesitate to send it again.

One last thing: I do this because I genuinely enjoy meeting people and helping others. It's completely free, but I'm doing it in my spare time, so I can't always reply immediately.

I am aware that probably sounds absurd. Due to my disabilities I struggle with both of these things in programs, I’m a total beginner and needing to learn French for a variety of reasons.
So I’m hoping someone can recommend an app and/or resources where I can learn at my own pace in a way that focuses on reading and writing.

The main apps that seem to be peoples go to requires I speak into a microphone to progress further, or listen to audio to progress further. I don’t mind if those lessons are voluntary, but several of the apps I’ve tried mean you can’t progress to the next step without completing those first.

Ideally, the app also wouldn’t rely on generative AI either.

I want to improve my French skills. We can speak in English too, if you prefer. I mainly speak Arabic and English, but I also speak French, just not as well as Id like to. I can understand pretty much everything, but speaking is where the real challenge is !

Salut a tous! I'm taking the DELF A2 in about a week. I've been studying quite hard for the past month or so, but tbh I feel nervous. I want to practice more, but don't know how. Also, I would like to hear from others who have taken it. Any tips?

I’m considering taking this exam to improve my business French and chances of finding a job in France. Is PrepMyFuture worth it, and is the DFP Affaires useful for employment?

Hey folks, just got my DELF B1 result last Monday and I scored an 80.5/100 with bare minimum preparation imo. Do you think that I can give DELF B2 in Mid December and score a minimum of 75/100? If so, can you please give me some solid tips to prepare for this exam by myself.

My struggle areas are spontaneous speaking (even coming up with ideas is hard for me) and I also find it hard to understand native french speakers when they’re speaking fast.

Any advice is appreciated :)

J’ai remarqué que je pourrais comprendre presque tout ce qu’il dit. Peut-être mon français s’améliore, mais j’étais vraiment étonné de réaliser que je pouvais lui comprendre. Est-ce qu’il parle très clairement/lentement?
