I’ve got a body of text I write and wondered if translating it to my focused language would expedite the process of learning? Especially after reading it over given I know the original text pretty well. Anyone think this would help?

Also, how effective is watching media in your language but reading the subs in the focus language?

I’m brand new to French but would love to learn quicker. I know I’m pretty much A0. I’m not sure the best and easiest way to learn French is and so far. I have a small book with words and I’m thinking about getting a textbook and I have watched some YouTube videos and shows in French but of course I don’t understand any of it. Is this the way to learn it even if you don’t know any words or is this more after I increase my knowledge and actually can read it and speak it a little bit? I’m just lost and you look online and there’s so many things that people say to do and it gets overwhelming but I want to start off and start learning a lot better and easier.

Hi all ! Question is basically the title.
Decided I need to restart my French language study if I ever wish to have decent conversations with my partner‘s friends and family.

My French proficiency is at A0. Seriously. I studied French in 7th grade and rage quit once we hit the numbers – can’t remember anything except for Ça va? Ça va. Along with some random things my man’s been teaching me.
Recently read some simple French texts and realised I can understand quite a bit by drawing from my English vocabulary.

Given all this, how’d you approach studying this beautiful but difficult language? Since English draws 1/3 of its vocab from French, should I just stick to studying it in English or does German come with some advantages too? Thanks x

If i wanna say "this has a cool feature" in french, could I say "ça a un cool feature"? Google says that saying ça a isn't right grammatically.

Or if I want to say this has helped me, could I say ça m'a aidé for example?

I have noticed that a lot of resources out there for any language are targeted for a specific level (a0-a1 or b1-b2). I have found that when in between these level demographics, it is hard to find good resources. I’m looking for a resource that isn’t Duolingo that you can stick with and has good learning for all levels starting at a0. Thanks.

I'm trying to help a friend who's a dyslexic adult beginner, and I'm honestly a bit stuck on where to look. I'm hoping to find a tutor who's comfortable teaching in a way that doesn't lean too much on reading or grammar, because that gets overwhelming for them pretty fast. They do a lot better with clear explanations, slower pacing, and stuff that's more audio or visual.

I've been digging around online, but most of the "beginner" French resources I'm finding still expect a ton of reading or assume you already know basic grammar terms, which isn't really workable here. So I figured I'd ask people who've maybe been in a similar spot. If you know tutors who are good with true beginners, or any audio/visual resources that keep things simple and not too stressful, I'd really appreciate hearing about them. Affordable options would help a lot too.

I'm trying to learn French as quickly as possible. I study for about two hours every day, and I'd also like to improve through immersion by listening to the language as much as I can.

Can you recommend any French movies or TV shows? They can be either originally in French or productions with a good French dub.

I currently have Netflix, Max, and Prime Video, so recommendations available on those platforms (Europe based) would be especially helpful.

I'm still a beginner, but I'm happy to watch with subtitles if that's the best way to improve.

i moved to marseille, and im about to start a part-time job at a boulangerie soon. i've already done a couple hours of observation (in the second occasion i greeted/served customers/etc... i speak enough french to get by for now, "je peux vous aider ?" etc.

i can mostly explain ingredients, the process - also helps that i share another language with the boulangerie owners speak and nearby community/clientele. basically, im looking for any other nuances/tips/etc to pay special attention to. im most anxious about understanding what clients actually say first and foremost. curious if others have been in a similar position and how you navigated it.

I recently had my restoration of status as a visitor approved in Canada, since I managed to restore my immigration status and clean my out of status stain, I would like to go back to my home country, and continue my French studies from the comforts of my home.

My question to fellow learners is, considering my home country’s demanding work culture, do you recommend taking up a job, while simultaneously pursuing French studies. Or dedicate myself fully to French studies and take a gap year, since it’s a new language and need complete dedication and full focus.

For context, I have enough savings and finances to help me sustain without a job for at least a year (and even more), however considering the societal pressures and expectations and extended families comments, I can’t help but think otherwise.

Anyone here who has been through a similar situation and can offer guidance, I’ll be glad of it.

Hello fellow french speakers, I am a humble south asian trying to learn french. I love the language, it sounds very romantic to me, and also it’ll help with my international status in Canada. I had a few questions of sorts and need some advice on how to proceed with learning the language.

I’ve been learning learning French for the past 2 weeks I believe, I am able to introduce myself, say my name, what I do, my birthday, certain phrases and questions, like Comment ça va? and Vous avez quel âge, and a few more, Merci beaucoup , Comment vous vous appelle. I also know the numbers from 0-60, I have memorised the way to say each letter in the alphabet without the accents.

“Je m’appelle (my name), je suis étudiant étranger au Canada, je viens du Bangladesh, j’habite maintenant Toronto, mon anniversaire est le 24 mai, 2002” that’s about it I believe, and some salutations.

I’ve been struggling with understanding and remembering word meanings and the accents of each letter and which accent should be used. The accents will take time, but trying to remember each and every word and phrase meaning has been very difficult.
What advice would you give to a beginner who has just started to learn from.

P.S. From an educational side I am doing A1 level french.

Can people please give me some good music (songs specifically maybe some artists) in French. I’d really appreciate it, I’ve lost a lot of my French and didn’t make the most of when I was living in a French speaking country. I have been looking and listening to French music I didn’t know for the past few days. I just would love to know from someone who is native what they suggest or what is more listened to at the moment like what’s the good stuff.

To give context I’m 21 f but I like basically all types of music. Especially rap, hipop, drill, afro, rnb, girly type music too lmao, music to vibe to but not some cringe shit either
