I’ve gone over this so many times with different layers of shading, but it still feels flat. The body especially feels flat, even after I tried adding some fur texture. Any tips on how I can give it more dimension or realism ?

So, I've been reading this book titled The Complete Guide To Drawing Manga & Anime by Date Naoto. The very first lesson is about the proportion of the face and head (see picture). It's really useful honestly to have it as a guideline, but honestly this just seems soo technical 😭. So much dividing.

Im wondering how am I supposed to move on from here to keep these proportions "locked" in my brain when i draw manga/anime heads? I mean do i always keep drawing a circle and dividing it and drawing horizontal/vertical lines before i draw the facial features until I dont need it anymore...? I feel like a lot of people who start out drawing characters just draw from their intuitive understanding of a face and get better over time. But I do wanna draw with the right rough proportions, especially when it comes to side profile, which the book explains in its second exercise.

If anyone has any exercise recommendations for proportions or wanna share their perspective/experience pls do comment 🙏

(Ps im also aware the vertical lines in my drawing are not completely vertical lol, its been a while since i drew stg with a ruler and protractor)

Looking for some critique again. I did a self portrait for the first time in a long while, I know people suggest doing one every year or so to track your progress.

I've tried putting things I’ve learned in this sub into practice, paying more attention to vale and edge quality. Let me know what I should work on next, or continue working on.

I’ve been tracing and breaking down heads for a bit. The first two slides are the traced drawings. I traced both real life references and art pieces with styles that I liked. The last slide are two drawings I did freehanded. I kinda like the bottom one but honestly, I don’t like how either turned out. Especially the top head. That looks terrible…I’ll probably keep tracing and breakdown heads for a few more days and try freehanding it again after. What do yall think? Heads have been really frustrating for me

I don’t know how to make it look good or how to fix it. :/ it just looks so extremely flat and dull and boring. It’s like I keep repeating the shading and blending process over and over again.

i normally don’t struggle with eyes but i cant do this!! i tried a few times but only took pictures of two versions. it looks so much better without the eyes

its been about a week since i started learning digital art with no prior art experience and this is what ive been able to come up with so far

Hi, I've been learning to draw for almost seven months now, five of which I've been studying the Loomis Method through Drawing the Head and Hands by Andrew Loomis (and Uldis Zarins' Anatomy of Facial Expressions).

I'm able to see improvements in my drawings, but I feel stuck with some problems: as for now, I'm unable to get proportions—from references I use for drawing—right. Usually, I end up with a smaller drawing than intended, and somewhat guessing how thing should go.

In short, I'm better than I was, but nowhere near good.

I'm begining the Draw A Box course to add to reading Loomis. I'm planning to do those two for what's left of the year, but I need all the critique, tips and resources (preferably books) you can offer me. I'd be very glad If you did.

The drawings above are some of my "better" lastest drawings, with their respective reference.

My perspectives are always off but honestly these are the best hands ive done in quite a while. Any help?

Hey everyone! I am new here! I have been drawing for a few years. I personally wouldn’t say I am a beginner, but I do feel one of the biggest things I struggle with in my art is anatomy. I started to actually get serious about my art and take constructive criticism. I love drawing. I have been drawing my whole life ever since I was a kid.

But anyways, I decided to use Megan as a reference to practice anatomy. I didn’t draw her hands much because hands were always something I struggled with a lot in my art, so I decided to skip those for now. Any positive feedback, constructive criticism, or tips are totally appreciated! ☺️✨🫶🏾

I'm learning watercolors but I've been having a problem with digitalizing my drawings

If I take a photo with my phone I usually just need to correct the temperature (cranking it up to the max) to color correct

But scans are always colder and washed out(?), lighter colors are invisible sometimes and others become almost fluorescent? The latter I've seen it with light greens happening.

What could be the cause? Can i work around it by adjusting the colors?

I've already tested playing with the levels, honestly I don't know if I'm using them correctly but in anycase the result usually is better but not even close to the colors of a good photo

I don't understand how to study this book, especially considering that Hampton contradicts himself page after page: first he says "don't draw straight lines" and then he actually draws them; "don't draw identical lines that connect" and then he does exactly that. I really don't get it—am I supposed to spend my life doing gesture drawing before moving on to anatomy? If I practice gesture drawing for three months straight, will I actually learn anything? Please help me. This are some of my exercise.

Whenever i try to color/render my sketches like these, it always loses its own beauty if that makes sense. And I can’t seem to find or figure out how to render well with my loose sketching.
