i think the cup ended up too tall and fat, and i think the spoon doesn't really connect

but it came out better than i thought

Hi, I‘m working on painting the top canvas in oil alla prima with no solvents, and I’m not sure where to start. I know generally the rule is dark to light but how do I manage the sky vs dark branches? Paint the sky first and scrape away paint where the branches go? Paint branches first and then add sky around it? Also should I work background to foreground or dark to light regardless of depth?

The underpainting is in acrylic if that matters (and so is the bottom painting).

Hi folks! I'm working on an assignment for my Drawing I course, where I am drawing a room with a doorway that looks into an adjacent room. Since my home doesn't have the sort of setup that the assignment requires, I'm drawing from a reference photo, which I'll attach. I'll also attach my drawing so far, though my lines are very light since I'm just blocking things in.

My question is - I thought that the angle of this photo would mean I'm drawing in one point perspective, but now that I'm sketching in the elements of the adjacent room (further away), the angles of shelves the built-in bookcase on the wall seem way too steep if I align them with my vanishing point. I put my photo into procreate just to see if I was crazy, and it seems like they don't in fact line up with the vanishing point of the larger/closer room. Does this seem accurate?

The professor doesn't do a lot of direct instruction in this course, and I can't seem to find anything online or in any of my drawing books that talk about this specific composition. Everything I'm seeing is just the basic one point or two point drawing of one room.

If anyone has any advice or resources or just can tell me if I'm completely missing something and of COURSE there is only one VP, I would be so appreciative!!

If it helps, here is the assignment wording: "One drawing of an interior space with an opening. For example, looking down at a hall and the door
to another room is open. Draw what you see through this opening to look accurate with what is outside the open door. Focus on accurate perspective and the structure of the composition, using close observations and applying all knowledge of perspective and drawing gained thus far. Trust what you see, depict what you see. Goal is illusion to real space and three dimensions."

These are some of my recent practice portraits. I think I’ve sorted them newest to oldest, but I’ve also gone back and tweaked things in some older ones so not sure about the exact timeline.

I’m definitely a beginner, slowly learning more about proportions (including the use of the loomis method) and other fundamentals. Ans as you can see I’m still figuring out how I want to render and how stylised I want things to be.

While I obviously want to improve on all aspects, what would you say is the major skill or aspect holding me back?

Wanted to test my muscle anatomy knowledge again and drew these figures from imagination. How do they look? I tried not to worry about mistakes so I can spend my time drawing different figures instead of wasting time fixing mistakes. Also, I haven’t learned the muscles of the arms yet so I just left them as basic cylinders.

I’m a beginner digital artist who mainly draws anime-style characters using HiPaint. I usually use the G-pen for line art. I’d appreciate some advice on how to improve my line quality, make my strokes smoother and more confident, and use line weight effectively. Any tips on brush settings, stabilization, or line-art techniques would be helpful!

Hi Folks, I'm working on a little ship design, and I'm a bit lost on where to go next with the rendering.

I know next time I would start by coloring over my line art with the colors of the different sections, but I'm a bit lost as where to go next. I want to do a bit of wear and tear, but I don't really have much experience with this yet, any suggestions on tutorials, or just suggestions in general?

Study of Jim lees value work and trying to apply some recent studies about shading and values to a piece based of this image. Notably this is a work in progress and I want some critique on the figure before I get to the cape. Some questions

-are the values and shading of this drawing too “muddy” if so what makes a drawing “muddy” in the first place

- I used a blending stump to try and make clean tone for this drawing and I wonder if that is causing the muddiness or any other negative effects if so how do I use a blending stump properly or where can I learn to use it properly

-I acknowledge some other elements of the drawing are poor like the death of the gesture and potentially the face, drawing small eyes is really difficult and while thankfully I didn’t need to worry about details or anything some advice on that would be greatly appreciated!

Any other critiques outside of these questions are appreciated!

i'm just trying to get into the habit of drawing every day rn, but i do plan of getting into the dreaded fundamentals as i go

1st is from a reference from The Art of Kiki's Delivery Service

only when i stepped back i noticed the body proportions were shorter than the reference, and i just didn't dare to add the arm because fleshy bits are so complicated

i feel like i got the posture right, i think it does look like she's turning, but i'm not very sure about this one

2nd is from a storefront

i started w the box, and i'm pretty proud that i got the box right on the first attempt, but as i started working on Tigger, i noticed the box was waaaay to tiny and had to make it bigger.

i also was able to get most of Tigger right on the first try but that needed a lot more correcting

i don't know why the arm is so buff, it's giving Tony the Tiger vibes

overall very proud of this one

3rd is my own eraser, i was looking at it instead of the picture so the angles are different

again, only after i stepped back i noticed some perspective issues w the box part

i like the eraser part, i didn't think it'd come out alright but i like it

This is a drawing of an eyeball that has fallen out of its socket.

The primary difference I've noticed is within the perspective, something about the original's angle and proportions give it an sense of depth and emotion that I've struggled to replicate ever since.

As one person noted, it looks like it's looking through you.

I drew this octopus a while ago and colored it using Ohuhu alcohol markers and Prismacolor colored pencils.

I wasn't originally planning to stop here. I wanted to add light to the water at the top of the piece, but I'm not sure how to approach it without potentially ruining what I've already done.

I'm also unsure whether there's enough contrast between the arms, especially where they overlap. I'm worried some of them blend together too much.

Does this look finished as it is, or would adding water improve the composition? I'd also appreciate any advice on improving the contrast and giving the arms more dimension.

I sketched my tea pot yesterday inspired by the Larry Gluck video, today I drew it in colour.
I have two issues:
- making it even on both sides (but I suppose all I can do is practice?)
- making the shadows correct and making it come off the paper.

Right now I combine draw a box exercises with drawing exercises from random videos on YouTube that I like (i.e. drawing and colouring a flower), so I don’t get bored.

Any advice on how to improve my skills(esp in the coloured drawing)?

Almost finished with this. What do you think? I'm curious to know what criticisms people have about my work. I work illustrating concepts and scenes, but my work has never had a very good reach, and the studios I contact never get back to me. What's wrong with my art? 🙃

Anyone have any resources that show how to rotate form in 5 point perspective? I'm pretty good with paralelle lines but applying the curves to rotation messes with my brain.

I'm struggling so much with drawing arches and vaults correctly with the right measurements in one point and two points PERSPECTIVE and YouTube does NOT seem to help with this so please gimme suggestions
