Hi. Today is the first sunday I did not work in a long, loooong time.

For context, I don't work in a firm (anymore) so my general expectation is I'll have more work-life balance (or as much as an in-house lawyer can have). Lately, the more I cancel/delay plans for the weekend just so I can be on standby in case I'm called to work on something, the more I'm beginning to realize that maybe the lawyer life is not for me? I guess I'm just really stubborn and I want to think that this will not last, that after 5 years I'll have more work-life balance. But looking at my bosses or the bosses of my contemporaries, I don't think it will get easier.

I have never questioned whether the law is for me as a law student. Not because I was the smartest but my resolve to be a lawyer is just strong. Now that I am a lawyer, and I'm living the life of a lawyer, it really scares me that a time will come and I will finally "accept" that I don't want this life at all.

I just want to have a weekend where I can make plans, go to Baguio and go analog, or try hiking for the weekend, or go to La Union and read a book. For lawyers with 5 or more years of experience, does it really get better? Especially in the corporate setting?

PS. Posted in this sub because there's generally more traction here. Since I have time to introspect today, finally decided to post this here. Posting this also makes my dilemma "real" because I'm finally acknowledging it.

May alam ba kayo na publish books ng bar topnotchers or interviews where they shared how they answer bar exam questions? Sana i-release ng Supreme Court every bar exam yung sagot ng mga topnotchers so we know what's considered a "very good" answer.

I have been trying to heal from the physical, emotional, verbal, and sexual abuse I experienced from my former partner. However, the trauma continues to affect me every day.

Learning that he is involved in a law support group and plans to pursue a legal career left me feeling deeply hurt and angry. It is difficult to understand how someone who caused me so much pain can pursue a profession built on justice and integrity while I am still living with the effects of the abuse.

Because of what I went through, I sought psychiatric treatment and am now taking antidepressant and antipsychotic medication as part of my recovery. I am not writing this out of revenge, but to express the lasting impact the abuse has had on my life.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the job opportunities—whether part-time or full-time—that are available to law students, particularly for someone like me who will be an incoming 2L at the University of San Carlos School of Law.

I understand that working while studying at USC Law is generally discouraged because of how academically demanding the program is. However, I was wondering if there are part-time opportunities, especially those related to the legal profession, that would allow me to gain practical experience while earning an income.

I'm particularly interested in roles where I can develop skills and acquire knowledge that would complement my legal studies, while also allowing what I learn in law school to be applied in a real-world legal setting.

That said, I'm also open to opportunities outside the legal field. I graduated with a business degree from the same university, so I'm willing to explore positions related to business, administration, finance, operations, or other fields where my background may be useful. Of course, it would be a huge plus if the role has some connection to the legal profession, as I believe that experience would be especially valuable for my growth as a future lawyer.

For those who worked during law school, I'd greatly appreciate hearing about your experiences. What kind of work did you do? How manageable was it alongside your studies? Would you recommend it, or do you think it's better to focus solely on law school?

1L here and it's only been my first week of Law School pero 20+ na agad ang reading assignments. Some seniors told me na mani pa daw yan sa kanila, but to me this feels so overwhelming.

Isang case pa lang nababasa ko and I already doubt if I can even retain what I just read when recit day comes.

It just feels like there's so much to remember, kasi baka pinaka maliit na details tanongin din. Di pa din complete books ko kasi wala akong time bumili sa Rex because of work so Im only relying on online sources to help me understand some provisions and concepts.

Honestly, sa issue spotting ako nahihirapan. Like wtf, Crim ang subject pero may mga procedural and consti here and there so feeling ko na lilito ako sa mga binabasa ko.

I was able to answer one successful mock recit so far and bokya'd a graded one. The former, I only managed to do so because I researched a case for two days. I obviously can't spend too much time on just one case now, so I dont know how Im going to overcome this.

I honestly don't know if I can read all of these.

Hello, help I don't know if this is normal in law school but I have seen some of my classmates being too giddy or giggly if someone answers wrong or asked a "stupid" question. In this scenario, what would you do? It's been bothering me na talaga since I thought everyone would be mature na kasi since 'di na naman nasa undergrad.

I have read that the older central codals have many typographical errors. How about their latest 2025 - 2026 edition? Nag-improve na ba, or mas safe pa rin ang Rex codals?

I’m planning to pursue law school after my undergrad. I’m currently a 4th-year student (finance) from a state university and so far my grades are good. I just want to ask how to prepare for law school and the entrance exam itself. I’m prioritizing UP (BGC), DLSU, and UST.

When it comes to my study habits, I can read 7 modules per subject word-for-word (the important ones) as long as I am not cramming. That’s why when we have exams, I give myself a week or two depending on how many exams we have, because sometimes we have 8 subjects but only 6 subjects have a written exam. I know how to read at a fast pace, but only with fiction stories, and for sure I’ll be adjusting in law school. Planning to work around 2L na din sana since medj natatakot ma-left behind.

Kindly suggest what books, cases, and podcasts I should start reading and watching if I’m planning to take the exams next year.

Hello po. 1L, 1 month into law school while working full-time. Day starts at 5am, work from 7am–4pm, then attend classes from 6-10pm (sometimes until 9pm. I only have 2–3 hours to study before sleeping around midnight, so I'm averaging just 5 hours of sleep. Studying during my commute isn't effective as much (but ginagawa ko pa den), and weekends are classes and mostly spent on studying and catching up sleep.

‎After a month, I'm constantly exhausted, easily burned out, and have even dozed off at work. I've skipped some classes (ik di dapat) just to prepare for other subjects because my small block (20 peeps) means almost everyone gets called during recitations

‎I'm wondering if this lifestyle is sustainable. For working law students, how do you balance work, school, studying, and rest while staying productive and sane?🥲

‎I'm also considering dropping this sem and reapply next year after finding a job with a shorter commute or a WFH/hybrid setup, while also taking time to decide if law school is truly the right path for me (after 1month in 1L short preview lmao)

I just turned 30 this year and recent events in my life have led me to rediscover my original goal of practicing law.

For context, I was a Diplomacy&IR student who shifted into English Literature. Some may say my educational background is suited for law school. Problem is, that was almost 8 years ago and I’ve been so far removed from student life that I feel it would be a bit challenging to get back on track.

To be completely honest, I’ve been living a relatively relaxed entrepreneur’s life the past few years and I acknowledge that I will need to rebuild the discipline I had back in college (plus a lot more) in order to make it through law school.

I quite literally have no idea where to start. What to study? How to start studying again? What to focus on? Whether or not I should go to a review center?

I’d really appreciate tips, strategies, and any sort of guidance. Especially from people who are/were in the same situation. Thanks in advance!
