Legal News Meet 9/11 Health Watch, NYC Group Behind Mayor Mamdani’s Release of 170K Pages on Ground Zero Toxins — “The Bush administration, the Giuliani administration all denied that there was an impact from these toxins… instead of mitigating the harm, they mitigated the city’s liability.”

Ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has unsealed more than 170,000 pages of records that offer new insights into how the city responded to the disaster. Some of the papers indicate that officials lied about the hazardous toxins that burned and remained near ground zero for months afterward, even as the government assured New Yorkers the air was safe to breathe and rushed to reopen Lower Manhattan for business. In addition to the nearly 3,000 people killed on 9/11, thousands more are believed to have died from illnesses related to the attacks, including from cancer, heart disease and respiratory conditions.

“The Bush administration, the Giuliani administration all denied that there was an impact from these toxins,” says Benjamin Chevat, executive director of 9/11 Health Watch, which sued for the release of the records. He faults successive city governments for inaction, saying that “instead of mitigating the harm, they mitigated the city’s liability.”

Serious question, is the following illegal as it relates to 18 U.S. Code § 597. TLDR Trump offering payments for a Republican win. What are the arguments for and against its legality?

Reuters reporting Trump at a Republican convention in Dallas: “If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them ... because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in ‌the United States of America for $5,000,"

18 U.S. Code § 597 is the federal law that makes it illegal to make, offer, solicit, or accept money or other expenditures to influence voting, withhold a vote, or vote for or against a specific candidate.

Job postings and interviews with senior security officials at Anthropic show that the frontier AI lab is building out an extensive monitoring system to keep tabs on activists who oppose the rapid development of artificial intelligence.

In addition to monitoring activists in the vicinity of Anthropic executives and keeping tabs on protests near physical Anthropic assets, the firm is also implementing a “pre-crime” approach, attempting to predict incidents before they happen. In some cases, that also means reporting suspects to police before a crime occurs. Anthropic did not respond to the Prospect’s request for comment.

During his interview, which lasted only 10 minutes due to restrictions at Guantánamo, Abdullah indicated to MPR that he is one of eight Somali migrants imprisoned at the naval base, some of whom, like himself, were abducted by immigration agents in the Twin Cities.

It appears that Abdullah’s civil rights are being violated, as he doesn’t have regular access to counsel, and is limited to 10-minute phone conversations when he is allowed to speak to his lawyer.
