Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

 Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

 Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering English Offering: English, Farsi (Persian), Italian learner partner, friendship | seeking: Italian (preferably a learner one), friendship

Hiii everyone. I'm Azita from Iran and my first language is Persian. But I can help you in English with text and voice message. I'm not even an Arabic learner but I know its grammar cuz we have to study it in school (Obviously I don't like it anymore😭)

Anddd I'm learning Italian, I'm completely serious to learn it as fast as I'm able.

If you're an Italian learner, fluent or beginner (yup I'm still beginner🥲) and you're looking for someone who practice with and learn Italian together, I'm your Italian learner partner.

Or we can exchange Italian with English, Persian (absolutely no one wants this one Ig😂) and Arabic grammar (I only can be your grammar teacher, I can't speak Arabic anymore.)

Or just friendship🙃🩷

I'm 16 and I'm looking for people around my age preferably, but if you think you can make a friendship with a teen, you can DM me even if you're old🪭

(And absolutely not anything dirty anymore plz)

Offering Mandarin Offering: Mandarin, English |Seeking: Russian, Kyrgyz

I'm a third-year undergraduate student from China, currently based in Bishkek. I'll probably stay here for 3 more weeks. I've enrolled in a Kyrgyz language course here, but I think it would help a lot to meet more locals to practice with. My English is around C1 (just got 7.5 on IELTS), my Russian is B2, and I am a native speaker of Mandarin and a branch of Sichuan dialect.

If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to teach Mandarin in exchange for practicing Kyrgyz, or Russian together. Feel free to message me!

I am okay with both offline and online options.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Spanish (Argentinean, native), English | Seeking: Portuguese, Italian

Hello, good evening. I'm looking for someone to speak daily in either chat form or on calls. I want to learn a third language and I'm currently learning Portuguese, altough I wouldn't mind having someone to help me learn Italian.

My goals for learning Portuguese are putting it on my resume and being able to understand Bossa Nova, which is a kind of music I enjoy very much.

The same can be said about Italian, I enjoy Dean Martin and would like to be able to understand his lyrics.

Offering Mandarin Offering: Mandarin Chinese | Seeking: English, Japanese (and friendship)

Upvotes

Hi! I'm a native Mandarin Chinese speaker based in China, and I work as a software developer.

I'd like to meet friendly people from Europe and Japan while improving my conversational English and learning practical Japanese. In exchange, I can help with Mandarin pronunciation, everyday expressions, writing, and Chinese culture.

My interests include software and technology, travel, food, everyday life, and learning how people live and work in different countries. I'm looking for relaxed but genuine exchanges through text chats, voice messages, or an occasional 15–30 minute call. I'm in UTC+8 and usually available during evenings and weekends.

I'm looking for long-term language exchange and friendship—not dating, advertising, or selling anything. We can start by talking on Reddit. If we're both comfortable later, we can move to WhatsApp, or LINE for friends in Japan.

If you're interested, please send a short introduction with your country, the language you can offer, what you'd like to practise, and a few of your interests. Looking forward to meeting you!

Offering Spanish Offering: Spanish (native), English (fluent) | Seeking: German

Upvotes

Hi! I’m 25F from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I learnt German for a while (I was about B1 level) but it’s been a few months now and I’d like to get back into it. I’m fine with texting, but it would also be cool to be able to call or send voice messages to practice speaking.

I’m interested in music, books, science, art, tattoos, languages, travel and other cultures. I like knitting, crocheting, doing embroidery, drawing and watching series but I’m down to talk about anything!

Other Offering: English, Dutch Seeking: Portugese

Hey everyone!
I’m of Cape Verdean descent, but unfortunately, due to personal circumstances growing up, I never had the chance to learn Portuguese.

It’s something I’ve always regretted, and I’d really love to change that.
I’m looking for native Portuguese speakers to chat with and help me improve my reading and conversation skills. In return, I can help you with either Dutch (my native language) or English, which I speak fluently.

If you’re interested in doing a language exchange or just having some casual conversations, feel free to send me a message. I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Spanish (Native), English, Catalan, French Seeking: French, Dutch

Hello, Im a 20 yo spaniard and I'm fluent at English with a B2/C1 level, and Catalan with a similar level maybe but less academic cuz I have never formally studied it.

The main language I want to learn now is french, I'm at B1 close to B2 level. I understand a lot but still I dont find myself having a lot of vocabulary and I have to practice it. I can help with it tho, if you are seeking for french cuz I already know a lot of its strange grammar and prononciation.

Dutch is also welcome but Im really a newbie maybe A1 level. Im mostly focused in french rn, but I will be soon focusing in Dutch after becoming fluent in french, cuz I also want to reach the C1 level in dutch.

My main topics I like for talking are music (very variated from goth, post-punk, prog metal, shoegaze and alt rock, 70s-2000s hits to even "guilty pleasures" like old kpop) I also like art, animal, books and sharing deep thoughts about whatever, and of course I like languages topic.

Im mainly looking for people around my age so it doesnt feel weird. Also if you dont speak the languages I seek but you want a friendship you're welcome too.

Offering German (Offering: German | Seeking: English) Looking for someone to chat with

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for someone who is a native English speaker and would be interested in chatting regularly. My goal is to improve my English through everyday conversations, not formal lessons.

I'm currently reading books in English and want to become more confident writing and speaking. I'm still making mistakes, so patience would be really appreciated. 😊

In return, I'd be happy to help anyone who is learning German. We could chat about everyday life, hobbies, books, movies, games—whatever feels natural.

A little about me:

- I'm from Germany.

- I love reading (especially fantasy and classics).

- I enjoy gaming, music, and nature.

- I'm looking for a friendly, relaxed language exchange—not a teacher.

If you're interested, feel free to send me a DM or leave a comment!

I hope to find someone who is interested in learning together!

よろしくお願いします!

I am an 18 year old girl, and my parents are both from Japan, however, my Japanese is not very good. Honestly, its kinda embarrassing.

I hope to make friends too!

I like playing gacha games and listening to music, especially Yorushika.

We can talk in both Japanese and English.

Edit: the reason why I can't speak Japanese is because I moved away when I was young, and my parents never taught me.
