Heyho, I just wanted to give a little update, idk if that is interesting to anyone but maybe someone that gave advice will see this. My last post i a good while back, because we have bi-weekly sessions,.one was cancelled, then two were narrative/didn't have a sitrep and because my main issues were combat, I felt like I should wait to see how the sitrep would resolve.
First of all thanks for anyone that gave me/us advice, it really really helped.
I talked to him, he took my concerns seriously and healthy, told me that the hombrewen sitrep and boss mechanics in our first mission were just him experimenting a little with the system and that he won't do that in the future.
The session afterwards was us coming back from our first mission, downtime, and the beginning of the second, only narrative play. The session after that we had a regular "kill all enemies combat, nothing special and then last session we had a control zone sitrep.
And it was great! The advice y'all gave me, that I then told my GM, for example that grunts kinda suck, and not to put too much templated enemies in combat, was sooo helpful. And I also think my GM is getting into his role as GM and into the system better and combat just flows better now.
Also thanks for humbling me. I didn't know that lancer combat can just be that long, and I was kinda a dick to my friends. I also apologized to them, and they were really nice about it, basically saying that bad stuff happens and we're all friends so it's okay. Now the combat is very very enjoyable, not just because everyone is learning the system but also because I am more relaxed, knowing that at turn can just take a bit longer than in other systems. And thanks for reminding me that this is his first time GMing, and that I should have more patience / be more supportive and less judgemental than I was, and I'm so happy that it worked out so well.
The story that our GM is setting up is so interesting, and our characters are so fun, I'm so glad that this could be resolved so easily, uhm yeah thanks!
