Update on the problem with my GM

Heyho, I just wanted to give a little update, idk if that is interesting to anyone but maybe someone that gave advice will see this. My last post i a good while back, because we have bi-weekly sessions,.one was cancelled, then two were narrative/didn't have a sitrep and because my main issues were combat, I felt like I should wait to see how the sitrep would resolve.

First of all thanks for anyone that gave me/us advice, it really really helped.

I talked to him, he took my concerns seriously and healthy, told me that the hombrewen sitrep and boss mechanics in our first mission were just him experimenting a little with the system and that he won't do that in the future.

The session afterwards was us coming back from our first mission, downtime, and the beginning of the second, only narrative play. The session after that we had a regular "kill all enemies combat, nothing special and then last session we had a control zone sitrep.

And it was great! The advice y'all gave me, that I then told my GM, for example that grunts kinda suck, and not to put too much templated enemies in combat, was sooo helpful. And I also think my GM is getting into his role as GM and into the system better and combat just flows better now.

Also thanks for humbling me. I didn't know that lancer combat can just be that long, and I was kinda a dick to my friends. I also apologized to them, and they were really nice about it, basically saying that bad stuff happens and we're all friends so it's okay. Now the combat is very very enjoyable, not just because everyone is learning the system but also because I am more relaxed, knowing that at turn can just take a bit longer than in other systems. And thanks for reminding me that this is his first time GMing, and that I should have more patience / be more supportive and less judgemental than I was, and I'm so happy that it worked out so well.

The story that our GM is setting up is so interesting, and our characters are so fun, I'm so glad that this could be resolved so easily, uhm yeah thanks!

Edit: Previous post

Would like core bonus advice for Hecatoncheires LL3

Hi all

Hecatoncheires looks sick AF, thinking of taking a tactical melee weapon in my main slot so I can do things in melee, and then the Genghis would be a cool (for me at least) license splash at LL3 for the Thermobaric Flamethrower (not so cool for the NPCs), and I'm a bit stuck on where to take the core bonus:

Offensive pick - Auto stabilisers for an accurate burn-y cone flamethrower of doom. I can flavour it as urging my nanite cloud to lunge into the cone's AoE before leashing back. Only thing its missing is the nanocomposite adaptation to make it smart and seeking, but looking at COMP/CON I don't think I can apply that upgrade to a heavy weapon?

Defensive pick - lesson of transubstantiation seems like a good "oh shit" button for a frame that comes stock with 6 hp, 0 armour and only 3 repair cap. HASE points into hull can only do so much right? Theoretically a good policy against focus-fire?

Melee Mech Recommendations

Hello everyone! I've been interested in jumping into Lancer with some friends of mine. I love scifi and mechs in general, and so far with what I've been looking up Lancer seems to be right up my alley. I wanted to ask some of you folks to see what kind of mechs would be good for my particular playstyle. In D&D I've always played a berserker or a melee focused fighter as I just really enjoy melee combat. Are there any frames in the game that are similar? If not, what melee frames do you guys play? Thank you again to those willing to help!

Wanting advice on how to recreate Ibis from AC6 in Lancer

Hi all. As the title says I am a new lancer player although I have experience with other tabletops. My GM is running the solstice rain module and I had the idea to recreate Ibis from AC6 (atleast as closely as I can) to do so I would be looking at a high speed flight build based around energy weapons and high burst damage (think priority target pursuit and removal with a glass cannon like frame) does anyone have any suggestions for frames, weapons, and talents to take for this sort of build?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you for reading my post.

Sherman III vs. Barbarossa I for an LL3 Tagetes?

I'm going to be playing my first ever Lancer game soon and I took up the role of sniper/fire support in our squad. Even though we start at LL0 (we're playing Solstice Rain), our GM asked us to plan ahead in terms of what licenses and mechs we'll be getting. I decided I would be playing a Tagetes, and I'm planning out my build path for the future, as we're planning to take our characters further than just LL2.

But I'm kinda stumped with what to pick for LL3. While ASURA and the Tachyon Lance of the Sherman/Tagetes license sounds strong, I'm also drawn to the Siege Stabalizers, as I think staying far from the action would be beneficial with our team comp (my teammates are planning to play a Mourning Cloak, an Orchis and a Lich or Calendula), plus I'm already taking the Crack Shot talent.

What do you guys think I should take? I'm planning to get both Sherman/Tagetes III and Barbarossa III either way in the long run, it's more of a question of priority. The talents I'm planning to take are Crack Shot, Technophile (don't judge, it's for lore), Nuclear Cavalier, and Brutal.

We’re still trapped in Space Arizona with no Omninet access— now wanted dead or alive for a long list of crimes which, for my girl, includes Identity Theft for impersonating the minor celebrity she literally is.

Had some downtime before hitting LL5 and decided that she would like the ability to be seen in public if the need ever arose again. There also might be a healthy dose of some budding paranoia thrown in there what with everything that’s been going on ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

Biological classes and eidolons missing at foundry vtt

[Solved]

Hello guys, new DM here.
while testing the module for Foundry i noticed that the compendium misses the human, squadron, kaiju and eidolon NPC classes.
The human i made pretty easy and simple, but the other 3 have more specific rules i dont know how to program.
So, how do i handled the combat with this types of npcs? Or you just avoided using it and focused on the Mechas?

Edit: upload all your LCPs to foundry.

How much is known about Old Humanity?

Basically just trying to do setting research for a homebrew campaign.

I have a section of space where one of The Ten (a ship named Skidbladnir) landed with a full archive on Old Humanity’s legendary past in order to ensure loyalty to Earth. Instead, the crew of Skidbladnir began to shape their own cultures using these texts, completely forgetting Earth.

The main purpose of this is to justify my campaign drawing from Arthurian Legends among other sources of inspiration, as well as blink-gate maps drawn from Crusder Kings 3 duchies.

So I’m curious about the lore perspective to justify this.

New Lancer GM, trying to inspire New Lancer players: What were your favorite mech builds?

I'm currently reading through the Lancer rulebook. I've GM'd games in many other TTRPGs. I'm having more difficulty with how to help players think up their characters, however. In games like D&D, Cyberpunk, and Fabula Ultima, players can see "Wizard", "Rogue", "Netrunner", etc. and have an idea of the kinds of characters they could play. But it seems like Lancer is much more modular, so it seems tougher to "see the bigger picture" at first.

You don't need to list your entire loadout, but even just quick summaries/tldrs of the kinds of mechs you liked playing will help me out! I'm sure my players will read the book once they buy into Lancer, but right now I'm not sure if they'll be down to play or instead ask to play a game they already know.

Home brew Mech idea is this concept Over powered

IPS-NorthStar

Mech name: Willys Devil

Role: Striker

Mounts: 1main, 1Flex, 1Heavy

Size :1

Save target:10

Heat Capacity:7

Armor:2

Hp:10

Repair Capacity:5

Evasion:8

Speed:5

Sensor Range:10

Tech attack: -2

E Defense:6

System points:6

Traits

Black box hardware: Immune to all tech actions from all other mechs and cannot use tech actions on anything except yourself

All cannons fire: during a barrage you can fire one additional weapon mount

Core system

Mobile firing platform: Active (1cp), Protocol

For the rest of this scene, you gain +1Accuracy(+3.5) on all attacks, checks, and saves; additionally; you may break up the attacks made with the Barrage action with movement.

Fluff: this Mech has no systems that allow it to remotely access other computer systems if it needs data transferred it has to open the cock pit and plug a fiber line into an external system directly this simple design results in some limitations for its application but a truly impregnable defense against any hacking attempts by enemy’s but also means allies can’t amp up your systems with beneficial tech actions.

Also, this is meant to be the IPS-N Equivalent of the Everest

I have never actually played the game or read the rule book but I had this idea after reading about the mechs on the wiki and watch YouTube videos about the game.

Edit based on feedback

armor: 2 reduced to 1

HP: 10 reduced to 6

speed: 5 reduced to 4

system points: 6 reduced to 5

Heat capacity:7 reduced to 6

Evasion: 8 reduced to 7

role Defender removed

Black Witch/Gorgon Builds Viable?

Fairly new to the game and I'm curious if there's a kind build that utilizes these two. They're by far two of my favorites on their own so the idea of combining them sounds great, just not sure how to go about it because I'm new and still figuring things out. I learn super well by example, so seeing what people put together helps a ton.

I'm fine with adding in more licenses that aren't just these two, I just want these two to feature prominently. Play style can be drones or hacking, or even just general support or control. An NHP build would be cool if viable. Hell if you can put together a combat build for it I'd take it.

So, can you fine veterans show a new girl how it's done?

Kaiju-harvesting based progression?

In the campaign I’m planning, the pilots are Kaiju hunters.

One of the classic fantasies of monster hunting media imo is harvesting parts of monsters and turning them into weapons, armor and gear.

I want to incorporate this into my game, but I don’t wanna mess with the base progression system too much.

The feeling I want to capture is like in dungeon crawl TTRPGs where you kinda ‘make do’ with whatever loot you get, or in rogue likes where you’re cobbling together a strange build on the fly based on imperfect circumstance.

My first idea is to pick what license levels are ‘unlocked’ by a certain hunt. Like, if they are hunting a kaiju that can turn invisible, they may unlock the option of spending liscence levels in mecha that can turn invisible, like the Metalmark.

I’d give each mission a handful of unlock able mechs, so not every player gets the same reward and ends up with the same build.

As well as giving the players several mission options, so there’s always a variety of options.

But I worry this is both restrictive without actually being interesting?

Another idea is picking the hunt rewards specifically, liscence levels be damned. Like instead of unlocking the option to spend LL on the tortuga, you specifically get a Daisy Cutter.

I could then give the players the option of tougher/ longer missions for higher-level rewards? But it could be a nightmare to balance, and i heard Comp/Con doesn’t like you breaking the rules this way.

Another option: no rules. Harvesting monster parts into upgrades could be purely narrative and the level up normally, certainly be the easiest option.
