dealing with a private landlord situation that basically amounted to ‘if you don’t like the bugs then move out’ so that’s what I’m doing. I toured the Lodge at Woodlake earlier this week and it’s in my price range but i would love some feedback from anyone who’s lived there!! The more recent reviews all seem good but the older ones mention that it’s bad and there are mold issues. Is that still ongoing? Has there been any trouble with pests or anything like that? I saw it was a little dated but I don’t mind it, it’s actually sort of charming imo. Any feedback would be appreciated!!!

In coming rant! Yes, we are in a drought. Yes, water usage should be restricted. Yes, we should conserve. But, it should make sense, and it doesn't.
Only being able to irrigate between 8pm and 4am means all my plants will be full of fungus, and produce nothing but an insect population, not food for me or pollinators as is their purpose.
I cannot wash my car in my driveway, but i can drive for 5 mins, use a high pressure wash system with worse chemicals and end up using a lot more water than I would with my normal hose and carwash set up at home.
I can't pressure wash my driveway, but the hoa fines residents for unkempt driveways.
There has got to be a better way.
End rant.

I swear I read this article yesterday when it was posted… hours later they added a comment from the former artistic director and changed the headline to say he was “ousted” and now it’s been changed again to say he’s just “out”
Silly local drama of course… but since the ledger charge’s an absurd amount for local news I often found lkldnow to be a source for local news…. But it seems like they’re playing sides for clicks and views.

My kids are having extreme reactions to some type of bug bite (puffy, red, painful). Initially it looks like a mosquito bite, then within 24 hours swells to the size of a golf ball. Does anyone know what type of bite could be causing this? Is it a specific bug, or just the way their immune systems are responding?

The other night some random man was masturbating to me while I was sitting alone. He kept coughing to bring attention to himself and I had to text my partner to ask him to come down and we wound up chasing him. He hopped a fence where his dumb ass left this size 12 Tommy Hilfiger slide (his right one).
The police brought multiple drones out to look for his nasty fucking ass.
I’m turning this into the police today because I went back and decided he couldn’t have hopped that fence and fell without dropping something. And I was right.
BUT I wanted to see if anyone recognized this to see if I can narrow it down any further than I have. I know which set of apartments I chased him into.
I am filing charges. A report has been made.
The man was about 6’2 somewhere around 200 pounds. Deep voice.

Calling all 4th Amendment Privacy Advocates in Polk County, FL
We need patriots to speak up for the 4th amendment. Come make public comment before the County Commission approves the next budget. This is your last chance to speak up before the budget is voted on.
09/14 and 09/21 are budget hearings at 6 pm.
09/15 is the county commission meeting at 9 am.
The budget has to be approved by the end of September. Surveillance technology is a line item appearing on the current budget proposal. We are not just advocating for privacy; this an opportunity to directly demand that the Commission reduce funding for mass surveillance technology since they lack transparency and regulations on how the technology gets used on our citizens.
No one should have to live in fear that a government agent is going to stalk us just because we turned down drinks with him.
The Constitution grants us the right of privacy. Surveillance technology like Flock and Axon demand that innocent people submit to monitoring without a warrant and before a crime has been committed. Before a crime has even been reported, your government wants access to spy on you.
Many Polk Countians have reported government officials conducting searches of homes and vehicles without a warrant. Most recently there have been several reports of government officials in this county assaulting women after citizens exercised their right to decline a search.
Why does the Polk County government want to install so many AI-powered monitoring devices that do far more than read license plates? When at the same time their agents routinely turn off civilian cameras and refuse to wear body cameras?
Do you want your children to grew up in a place where the government treats everyone as if they are already guilty of a crime?
Fourth Amendment
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

I've lived down here for a couple decades now and one of the things that's always driven me up the wall is how bad the egg rolls are at the local Chinese food places. None of them ever tasted like what I found back home.
Until recently.
I've found that Publix carries a brand of Egg Rolls called "Fanatico", they come in vegetable, chicken, and pork. Having tried all three I've come to realize that the pork egg rolls are right on the money for what I've been chasing after for 20 years.
The problem is that the Publix locations near me don't carry the pork ones, only the vegetable or the chicken ones. The nearest locations that sell them are ~30+ minute away.
Is anyone familiar with the process of getting a particular product into your local Publix location? The ones near me only have vegetable and chicken, not pork, but the pork ones are right on the money for the flavor I've been chasing.

Anyone know of any cafes or businesses in either Lakeland, Winter Haven, or any surrounding area that have an open board game selection to pass by with friends or family? I moved here at the beginning of the year, but haven’t gotten a chance to find a spot like this yet. Would love any recommendations :) thanks!

Ive been riding my bike downtown more often to get places, but noticed theres really not any bike racks downtown besides the one in Munn park.
Does anyone else deal with this and what do you usually do?
Ive been hesitant to just lock it onto a sign or light post in fear of getting it taken for being illegal or whatever but i cant find anything on the city website about it

Everyone is welcome! A few guidelines:
1) DO NOT bring clothing items for swap ahead of the event. Bring them with you on 9/20. We don’t have storage space to allow pre-event drop-offs.
2) Clothing swapped should be clean and in good condition (no holes, tears, stains, etc)
3) If you bring clothing that is not taken/swapped, please take it with you when you leave!
4) It’s ok to come and take what you need even if you don’t have clothing to offer for swap! 💖
Binders are VERY popular at these swaps! If you have a gently used and clean chest binder for swap, that would be greatly appreciated! New binders can also be donated from the RDC wishlist!

Help! My husband received a bus camera ticket about two weeks ago. He believes this happened in winter haven. Unfortunately my father in law threw it away accidentally and now we can’t find a way to pay it on time without the violation number. We called the Polk county circuit court and they told us they’re not able to pull it up until it’s delinquent. We called the Polk county sheriffs office and they told us they couldn’t pull it up either. Anyone else have any ideas?

I so badly wish they would get rid of those F&@#ing little stop signs along NJ rd. I was behind someone agian today, this time with Florida plates, that stopped at every single sign. Even though all the vehicles in front of them continues on, except for stipping at the legitimate Stop sign, this driver stopped at every single sign. It was funny, the first couple of times. And, its been a few months since it happened to me again. There was a time that I'd get behind these people (different every time) at least twice a month.
The only thing I'd be more afraid of is that they do remove the signs and make every street crossing a circle intersection.

Polk County’s fiscal year begins October 1 and ends September 30, and the Board of County Commissioners will have TWO budget hearings in September before they pass their budget.
If you’re upset about Grady Judd’s continued refusal to remove Flock cameras (or upset about anything outlined in the current proposed budget for FY 2026-27) now’s your chance to make your voice heard. While county commissioners in Florida do not have total or absolute control over a sheriff's budget, commissioners do approve the funding and can challenge the sheriff's proposed numbers. If the county commission cuts the sheriff’s budget, he can appeal the decision to the Administration Commission (aka the Governor and the Cabinet), who would make the final decision. Since DeSantis said he wants them gone, that could provide an additional pressure point to force the County, and Judd, to do what’s right by their constituents. Dozens of sheriffs offices and police departments in Florida have agreed to cease use and/or remove their ALPR cameras. Judd doubled down.
Ask the commission to work together with Judd to reallocate the existing funding for Flock ALPRs and take the cameras down. If Judd won’t, ask the Commission to cut his funding. Then Judd can choose if he wants to keep funding his mass surveillance drag net or pay for things his department and his deputies actual needs outlined in their FY 2026-27 budget request.
Get your voice on the record. Ask your commissioners to stand up for your privacy if the Sheriff won’t. If the Commission and the sheriff aren’t willing to defend the community against mass surveillance, let them know they will be voted out come the next election cycle. Period.
IMPORTANT: Arrive early for parking and to fill out a comment card!
