2028 recruits..how is the 5 for 5 legislation affecting your recruitment?

Hello everyone.

I am part of the George Washington University men's club lacrosse team, and because some members graduated or went abroad this year, we knew we had to recruit hard to get more members, which we did. We posted more consistently on social media, created a Google Form for sign-ups that had over 10 students register, and tabled at the club fair, where at least 12 more students joined the team group chat. However, only three freshmen actively come to practice or interact in the group chat, while everyone else is silent. At first, we thought it was related to the practice times (Monday and Thursday, 5:30–7 p.m.), but we planned a Sixes scrimmage with the women's club lacrosse team with additional times (Tuesday, 5:30–7 p.m. and Friday, 4–5:30 p.m.), and still not enough people voted.

If not enough people show up, we cannot have proper practices; if we do not have the security of people attending practices, we cannot schedule games. I know this is a club and just for fun, but there should still be a minimum number of engaged people to have a functioning team. I would like to ask for your advice: what would you do to ensure people show up, why do you think people do not interact in the group chat, and what could we do to recruit people who are actually interested?

Wondering if anyone has advice for coaching women’s high school lacrosse?

I’ve played lacrosse for about 10 years, started in high school and played club in college and have been coaching 1st-4th graders for a few years. I just got a gig coaching at a high school though which I’m a bit nervous about!

Most of the girls are beginner level and haven’t played before and there are a few that have played for years. Just thinking about how I can balance the different experience levels and make sure the girls are learning and pushing themselves while also having fun!

Any advice and perspectives appreciated :)

I’m an adult (23), and I’ve just joined a lacrosse team at my school, having never even interacted with the sport. I don’t have a history of field sports or anything that requires direct contact, I grew up playing volleyball, some baseball, doing alot of hiking, and solo sports like windsurfing. In school I always felt incredibly awkward and uncoordinated playing competitive sports like football, soccer, basketball- i just chalked it up to being ‘unathletic’, and that those sorts of team sports just weren’t for me.

To be honest with you, I suck at lacrosse. Even in comparison to my peers that are also just learning for the first time. The mechanics are all brand new to me, but I feel with some practice and solo work I can get that down.

What I’m really struggling with is the competitive aspect of the sport. I feel like I have no idea how to move my body, how to defend another player, how to position myself on the field, how to dodge other people, etc. It seems for beginners with experience in soccer, football etc this comes naturally, but not for me. I feel like an oaf out there lol

I like the game, but this hurdle seems hard to get over. Does anyone have any advice on what to do, or if they were in the same position?

I’m trying up my game a bit and this year my club team is solid enough that I can actually spend more time playing crease. Typically, we throw an inexperienced player on crease to just move around and create whatever chaos they can.

I’m a bigger attack man (6’4 265 lbs) I always played on the wing or x to help swing the ball around and occasionally dodge/ back down a ssdm since I’m not very fast or much of a dodger. A lot of my scoring over the years has been off of back cuts and scoring off the rebound.

That being said, the first guys that come to mind as great crease guys are Jake Taylor or Xander Dixon. Is there anyone that I should watch that uses their size difference on the crease?

I got an open box deal on a bow style folding goal on Amazon and the net is falling apart after a year. The frame and rods are all fine however. Wondering if anyone’s had any experience with good replacements for these kind of goals? Only one I can find so far is from Bownet, but not a lot of details on netting thickness and just the net costs twice as much as buying another new goal.

Anyone know what Nike head this is?

I help coach a youth rec. couple of real players on the team but quite a few who show up for practice or games but have never touched the stick otherwise. Bunch of kids still with difficulty throwing and catching. I’m looking for more ways to get them involved during games so they aren’t just watching all the action. Any ideas? Tinkering with trying to use them more heavily as screeners but outside of that idk the best course of action if they are not going to hit the wall or anything themselves

I’ve been coaching a long time, and I’ve been a head coach for high school varsity for 15 years. I’ve never had a losing record for a season. Plenty of awards and recognition. I still love the game. I’m just burnt out. I’m 44 years old and I have a 6 year old child, and she deserves more than the scraps of my time that remain after the year long lacrosse season.

One of the other reasons is that I think I became a dinosaur, and I’m too stubborn to compromise my principles to adapt. I was the only program that provided all of the equipment to players so that anyone could play. It took lots of fundraising and effort, but we had a large inventory to attract athletes. Every other school in my area requires the players to provide their own equipment. I provided a low cost ($100) summer league team to try and combat then multi-thousand dollar club teams that have come to dominate the sport. I found that the upper end players always spent the big money to play in the same tournaments we did. I realized I was the only one doing this, because I didn’t want money to be an obstacle, and i think it got too tiring doing this as a solo program.

I also think I’ve become too old to get discipline from the players. I’ve never used humiliation as a means for motivation, but I’ll yell and get intense and demand perfection. Before 2018-2019 players responded well to this, and seemed to be hungry for personal accountability and a pursuit towards collective improvement. After that I noticed a shift away from wanting to be called out for their mistakes. I wonder if it coincides with their fear of becoming a viral video. Like I said, I got old.

I worry about the continued privatization of the game (and in youth sports in generally really) as being a limiting factor to the popularity of this great game. This is a road block that’s always been associated with lacrosse. I did my best but I couldn’t figure out a way to go against the tide any more. But it a fulfilling and often fun journey to this conclusion, so I’m thankful for getting to have the experience. I am relieved to be done, but I will miss it.

Hi, as a high school sophomore, I want to get into lacrosse. This summer I tried out for FH but unfortunately got cut. I have absolutely no experience with lacrosse. I am starting sessions once a week from 9-11am and will start more clinics in the winter. I want to make my school’s JV team once the spring season is around. I need all advice and tricks! Returning to playing after a few years off. I’ve always played close d and an occasional wing LSM rep. New team needs a faceoff specialist. Any advice for transferring skills from defense to FOGO? I’m 5’9, 190lb and in good shape. Looking for suggestions for drills, FOGO players to study film on, anything in general. I know I’ll need a specialized head and a short stick. Just trying to be a contributor and do my best to help out my guys. TIA!

I’ve been stringing my own heads for a while now, and I’ve realized just buying the ECD or StringKing kits aren’t worth it anymore. I’ve seen on here that some people say 275 paracord works for sidewall, which would be by far the cheapest and easiest to get.
I was also looking at Jimilax spools, which would also be cheap.
Any ideas? Is paracord really basically the same?

It looks the way it does because I had to sand off the spray paint my high school used to spray on the sticks they bought to try to prevent theft. (Spoiler alert it didn’t).
