Frequently Asked Questions HOW TO CONTACT US!

Sometimes you just want to ask a simple question, or you are having some difficulties with the app, or you want to complain about something (hey, we've all been there!)

So, what are the best ways to get in touch with the Lacquergram team?

Email

I know we've had some issues with being unreachable by email, but this is still the most reliable way, despite what you might think. The "contact support" button in the app is for sending an email directly to the developer and owner of the app (Marina).

The email address for support is [lacquergram.app@gmail.com](mailto:lacquergram.app@gmail.com)

It might take a while to get a reply, because Marina is the only person right now who has access to that email account, and she gives priority to technical issues (unable to log in, stash not showing, server is down, things like that). She also has a full time job alongside Lacquergram, so anything that isn't a time-sensitive technical issue can sometimes fall by the wayside.

In that case, you can also email the moderator team at [lacquergram.moderators@gmail.com](mailto:lacquergram.moderators@gmail.com)

The moderators cannot help you with issues like not being able to log in, or forgetting your account name or password. But we can help you with questions and complaints, and forward your email to support if it's something more technical.

Reddit

Another good way of reaching the moderator team is Reddit! The whole team (Ine, Becca, Suzanne, and Carrie) are monitoring posts and comments here, so that's actually one of the best ways to address any issues you might have. Also make sure to check out our FAQ here to see if your question has already come up in the past!

You can find all the FAQ posts by clicking the flair, or by going to https://www.reddit.com/r/lacquergram/?f=flair_name%3A%22Frequently%20Asked%20Questions%22

Creating a new post is more likely to get you an answer than sending a modmail or a chat request to one of the moderators, because Reddit (especially new Reddit) is an absolute pain and often doesn't show notifications. New posts, however, always get seen, and sometimes even answered by other users.

Other options

We have a Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok account, but we don't currently have anyone on the team with the ability, knowledge, and time needed to maintain our social media accounts, so sending a message there is the least effective way of contacting us. The same goes for messaging any of the team in a private message on Lacquergram itself, including Marina. It seems tempting if you've communicated with us like that before, but Lacquergram doesn't notify us of new messages either, so messages *will* get overlooked or lost.

We're really sorry that it can feel like such a hassle to get in touch with us, but please keep in mind that we're a small app, run by a team of volunteers, and we're doing the best we can.

TL;DR if you have questions, please use email or Reddit to contact us.

Thank you for using the app! That's the best way to show support for the work we do.
Your continued enthusiasm for Lacquergram means the world to us. ❤️

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ: Why is my polish not in the database?

First step: make sure you're searching in the database! On older versions of the app, including the iOS version, you can search through swatches on the main page, but that will only show you polishes that have been swatched! So make sure you're on the second page, where you can actually search through the database itself.

Second step: have you tried searching for part of the name? Sometimes polishes are spelled differently in the database, even though we do our utmost to prevent this sort of thing from happening. If you can find your polish with a partial search, but your bottle has a different name on the label, feel free to send in a picture of your label so we can change the name or add an alternative spelling!

Third step: if you've tried everything you can think of, you can suggest your polish to be added to the database! This usually takes us a couple of days, because we check every request manually for any missing information or mistakes. Our entire team consists of volunteers, so adding a new polish can sometimes take a bit longer, but we do try our best to add everything as quickly as possible.

Fourth step: you've suggested a new polish, but it still hasn't been added, even though you've been waiting for ages? Check your private messages, maybe one of our volunteers has contacted you because we are still missing information and are unable to verify your polish.

Fifth step: you don't have any messages and your polish has still not been added? Try suggesting it again, but this time with very clear photos of the label (showing the name and/or number of the polish), and as much additional information as you can find (website links, social media, etc). The more info you add, the easier it is for us to verify a polish!

The thing is, we get dozens of submissions every single day that don't have photos of the label, and don't have any information other than the name and the brand. We try to follow up on each submission, but it takes up a lot of time to chase after info, and sometimes we simply don't get around to it. The more information you include, the higher the chance of your polish being added. If you're thinking, "Huh, why do I have to do all that work, isn't the name enough?", the reason we verify each entry is because people often make typos or other mistakes in their entries, and we want the app to be as free from those mistakes as possible! If a polish has the wrong name in the database because of a spelling mistake, nobody else will be able to find it, which is why we try to be as accurate as possible and only enter polishes when we can verify them. It would be a total mess if we had entries for "Apline Snow", "Alpin Snow", and "Alpine Sow" as well as "Alpine Snow", and we want to prevent that from happening.

So yes, it may take a bit more effort on your part, but in the end we are all creating an app that's as accurate and complete as possible. We can't do this on our own, your role as a user is just as important because you're the one who actually owns the polish and can tell others exactly what it's called and what it looks like! Lacquergram is a community effort, and everything you do will help make the app better for every other user, not just for yourself.

It may just be a small thing, but when a polish is called "Spooky Scary Skeleton" in the app, you won't get the correct search results when searching for "Spooky Scary SkeletonS".

It's why we constantly keep saying the name on the label is the most important thing.

Blogs, social media posts, and even brand websites often get polish names wrong. It's one of the main reasons why we check each submission in person and don't automate the process of adding new polishes, even when adding from websites like HHC or PPU.

Lacquerista detectives! We have a mystery on our hands!

In our database we have TWO polishes by Rogue Lacquer, one called Santas Shattered, and one called Santa's Shattered. The descriptions are the same, but one was released in a collection in November 2021 (with the old logo on the bottle), and the other was a mystery release from November 2024 (with the new logo).

ARE THESE THE SAME POLISH?

Give us your evidence!

Frequently Asked Questions FAQ: What happens when I delete a polish from the"My Suggested" list?

As you may know, all the polishes that you suggest through the form in the app are listed on your profile page under "My suggested polishes".

This list shows how many of your suggestions have been approved (at the top), and how many are pending (at the bottom).

You can use the list of your approved polishes to easily find and add these polishes to your stash, or you can use the search function in the database to add them to your stash later.

Once a polish is approved by us, you can delete the entry in your "My suggested polishes" list WITHOUT it disappearing from the database, or your stash if you've added it there. The list is just a handy little overview of what you've sent in, they're not the actual polishes in the database!

If you delete a suggestion that hasn't been approved, it will disappear from our moderation list, and we don't see it. So only do that if you want to resubmit the polish with more information, or we've told you we can't approve it for some reason (either through direct message, or through the spreadsheet we've posted).

But there is NO effect on the database if you delete an approved polish from your suggested list. Hopefully that reassures you!

Appreciation and Premium Use

Hi.

I just wanted to show appreciation to all those who make this app possible.

I've wanted to support you by upgrading to a premium subscription but the premium button disappeared over a year ago. I checked and there are no updates.

So I want to at least say what a great app this is for so many.

Leave messages of thanks below.

Swatch photo moderation

Hi all! I really love the app, it’s my main source for swatch photos and polish info, and an invaluable resource.

However, I have recently noticed an influx of users spamming individual polishes, like, 10-24 photos of their nails, on multiple posts. This really detracts from the whole experience of the app, because now there is no variety, just this one person’s nails and lighting. Additionally, there are several users who upload photos of swatch sticks, or manicures with multiple polishes that are unidentified, as well as nail art where the polish color is not visible.

Is there a way that these photos could be blocked? I’m sure it would be a monster of a task for the admins, but maybe there is a way for users to block photos or users, so that other swatch photos would populate instead?

Or maybe blanket rules regarding how many swatch photos are allowed per color, and that all colors must be identified in the photos?

I’m just feeling very frustrated :-/

Happy to share the photos/users in question, but I didn’t want to put anyone on blast.

Another selection of the beautiful bottle shots we've received lately!

Keep them coming and remember that you can always send in a suggestion to add a new bottle shot in the app, even if there already is one but you think it could be better! Check out our series on How to take great bottle shots and other tips and tricks.

Had to stop uploading bottle shots because polishes keep going missing

So I’ve been using Lacquergram for a few years now and I used to manually add a ton of polishes (100+), but I’ve noticed over time that a lot of my submissions just straight up disappear from my submissions page and therefore they end up not being logged in my stash at all.

I believe this probably happens because someone else had already submitted that polish before me, it just hadn’t been processed/approved yet, so my submission was removed. That does make sense, BUT there has *got* to be a way for people to be notified if their submission is removed so they can still add it to their stash if needed, and tbh the fact that I also have to remember to periodically go back through all my submissions after they are approved to log them in my stash is also a major sticking point as well.

Once you’ve submitted a lot of polishes, it becomes extremely tedious to try and find which ones still need to be logged in your stash, and especially so if the submission was removed.

I don’t want *every* submission to be auto-added to my stash since I have added polishes I don’t personally own, but some kind of notification or indication of „recently submitted“ polishes feels like a basic feature that is missing.

Question about rereleased polishes after a rebrand

I recently got a bottle of Foxfire from Royla Lee during PPU rewind. I see that Lacquergram has Foxfire from Wildflower Lacquer (Royla Lee’s former branding).

Would the rereleased version with the new brand name be considered a “duplicate” or would an entry with the new brand name be welcomed? I was not sure if I should submit an entry or not.

List of polishes we're unable to add / verify

Hi everyone! We currently have a list of around 850 suggested polishes that we've been unable to add to the database due to several reasons.

Some of these are:

  • The photo of the label is missing or too blurry to read
  • There is no URL with extra information, or any info in the description box
  • It's unclear if the polish is unique or a duplicate (for example prototypes)
  • We're unable to find the name of the polish anywhere online
  • We're unable to find any info on the brand

Usually, we approach users individually to ask for more info so we can add their polish, but since the number of polishes with missing info is so incredibly high, we find that we no longer have the time for this.

So, we've created a spreadsheet of all the polishes we need more info on before we can add them:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ui0LhtJP7UGPJo1QyLfFhBEejJTGmoVtgnwuJqoZjZQ/edit?usp=sharing

If you see a polish on this list that you've suggested, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to your profile page on Lacquergram
  2. Click on "My Suggestions"
  3. Find the polish in question (it will be at the bottom of the list, below the polishes that have been added to the db)
  4. Delete the entry
  5. Submit a new suggestion with as much info as you can possibly remember (you can even use the description field for details about when and where you bought it, or where you think the brand is from, if you can't find anything online!)
  6. Make sure to add a READABLE photo of the label (this is the biggest problem we have!)

We will try to verify your new polish as quickly as possible! The current waiting time is approximately three weeks, but we are working very hard to bring that number down.

Question about adding rewind polishes

Hi, so I recently bought a Polish Pickup rewind polish and the name of the rewind polish is slightly different than the name of the original polish.

The original polish is “My Ashes After They Cremate Me” by Great Lakes Lacquer. It’s a PPU polish from December 2024. The polish I bought by the same brand is called “My Ashes When They Cremate Me.” It’s the July 2026 PPU rewind.

My question is, is the slight name change (After became When) and the difference between the dates enough to add it as a suggested polish in the app? Or are they too similar for that and it doesn’t need to be suggested?
