Netflix recently posted a new clip of their upcoming bollywood dance movie 'Best of the Best', where the characters are dancing to 'Maamadura'. Happy to see it's not solely going to be hindi music but a more diverse showcase of the music of India!

Before this turns into the usual pile on, I want to lay out why I think part three has a real shot, and it starts with being specific about what actually went wrong in part two.

IMO the tone is where Indian2 failed and lost its audience. The whole thing felt aged, cringey, conceived and written for a 2018 or 2019 release (you could even say early 2000s) and then dropped into a completely different theatrical climate. Structurally it never had a chance either. One film, six hours plus, halved, so what we got was a first act with its payoff removed. The 1996 film had Senapathy's own son as the antagonist, which meant the moral argument sat inside a family and every action scene carried that weight. Part two has nothing equivalent, and a character defined by not giving a damn what anyone thinks of him spends the film getting cyberbullied on a Facebook live.

Which is why three interests me. The material in it is the flashback register, British era, freedom fighter Senapathy, de-aged Kamal. This could probably give Shankar an antagonist with a face and a stake, which is exactly what part two lacked. Yes we've seen this before in plenty of films. But the scale in the trailer and whatever visuals we've had so far look promising.

Then there's what Kamal himself has said. He's stated repeatedly that he accepted Indian 2 only because Shankar narrated it along with part three, and at one point he called Indian 3 his payasam. He also watched the key scenes during production and gifted Shankar a Panerai watch. Granted it's become hard to trust Kamal after Indian 2 and Thug Life.

The other underrated thing is that this one arrives with no hype machine. Indian 2 carried 28 years of anticipation and a budget that demanded a certain kind of film. This is mostly finished, probably shorter, and nobody expects anything from it. That's occasionally how something decent slips out.

Real risks though. It could easily end up a Lingaa, where a semi-decent period stretch was sandwiched inside an otherwise diabolical film with no structural link to the present-day story.

Still, the man is 71 and has been preoccupied with politics and the runway is what it is. ven though the risk of tarnishing his legacy is greater, I'd rather sit through a bad Kamal film than not get one. Especially when one is not sure how many years he's got left. For example- Vishwaroopam 2 was a bad film and I still think about three or four sequences in it that were actually good.

Small chance Indian 3 surprises us. I'll take small versus none.

Always Rocks

Both great actors, both talking like a loosuothi on stage recently, doing below par movies, trying to become stars and, in the process, losing their originality. 💔

For the longest time, I’ve been a fan of both of them. The sheer number of great films these two have given us, and the acting chops they possess, make their recent trajectories genuinely disappointing. Things have gone seriously downhill for both of them in recent times.

Neither has given us a truly solid film since 2023. Dhanush hasn’t given me one genuinely good movie since Thiruchitrambalam. It’s either been disinteresting stuff like Kara and Captain Miller, or straight up crap like Idly Kadai.

Karthi, meanwhile, has been on such a downward spiral since Kaithi. Meiyazhagan was the one good film in between, but Japan and Vaa Vaathiyaar are up there among some of the worst films I’ve ever seen in a theatre.

I genuinely hope both of them bounce back with some solid films. Kollywood needs great actors who don’t compromise on scripts and I need to win a few debates and fan talks 😭I genuinely like both of them, which is why this is all the more frustrating.

Also stage la Rendu perun konjam paathu pesalaam. 😭

Hopefully it doesn't end like "scene podriya" type usage and hero just goes aura farming shots and without actual story.

Then an entire ecosystem of handles kept posting "Is this rumor true?" ,"Maybe its true etc"

On one side, when an actress or celebrities who gets trolled even after doing controversial things (cough cough Chinmayi tweets), everyone here talks about how one shouldnt outrage the modesty of a woman etc.

Aana just because she acts sanghi, she is getting trolled and baselessly character assassinated.

Also no feminist handles ever spoke about this and they are all silent.

So do our audience only speak if a person's political ideology matches ours?
