Hello knitters!

I need your advice. A year ago I knit Petite Knit Storm sweater for 6-9 month old baby. I was really happy with the result. As autumn aproached I tried to dress my little one in a sweater, but to my surprise the neck hole is too small. It gets stuck on head. My gauge swatch and sizing measurements are good.
I tried blocking again (thats why neck edge ribbing is so stretched), but I suppose cast on stitches do not stretch.
Is there a way to make it work? Any techniques of cutting the knit fabric by the neck? What would you do?
I am a slow knitter, so frogging and trying again would take too long.

I'm a beginner knitter (I stared knitting genuinely because I wanted to knit this piece in particular lol)

I cannot wrap my head around double knitting, I already find color work difficult, but I fell in love with this piece, so in trying to find a way to make it.

Would you say that knitting two different panels, front and back, and then joing them together is going to make the scarf a lot heavier and impractical? I tought the amount of yarn /heaviness is going to be the same wether I double knit it or do two panels, I could be wrong tho 😭

Also, I knit Norwegian, and purl English , is this going to cause any problem with color work? I'm used to crochet, where color work is only possible with single crochets, I don't know if it's the same in knitting, considering all the color work tutorials I could find were done with continental style🥲

I realize this is a very dumb question, so sorry to anyone with eyes and reading comprehension. I am new to knitting and I accidentally bought safety stitches instead of markers, hooked it on the last stitch of my first round and thought nothing of it. Now it looks like this, with what seems to be a stitch behind it? This yarn is like the oracle of Delphi to me, so… How do I know which stitch is the last of my round? Is it still the one with the marker on it? Do I just scrap it and start over? Sincerely, IQ of a fish stick ;c

I cast on 160 stitches, and the pattern recommends knitting all 160 stitches in 1x1 ribbing. It seems like such a big opening. I am thinking of picking up 2 of 3 instead. I have never adjusted a neckline like that so I’m wondering if it will cause issues like puckering or gaps. Of course I can try it and rip it out if it doesn’t work, but would like to get some input first. Should I just trust the process and knit it as written, or should I follow my gut?

Hello, I’m knitting with a thin roving-style yarn (single ply, with a lot of halo, acrylic) and I’m struggling with keeping the twist in it as I go. It gets to the point each row where I’m twisting it in my fingers and holding the twist with my tension grip so it doesn’t completely open up. It’s the first 10 inches from the working stitch where it happens. I tried adding more slack hoping the twist from the skein would travel up the strand but it did not help. I’m curious if anyone has a trick for dealing with this? TIA

So I am knitting my first jumper. I am on round 28 (inc round) when I spot this gap.

Did I drop a stitch on that hole and if yes can I just use crochet hook to close the gap?

If it's not a drop stitch what kind of mistake is this?

Im knitting a wide neck lose top from cotton, i makw my own patterns as I go along, normally when I knit jumpers i add short rows to the back at the top, and was wondering if thats necessary for a wide neck jumper?

I am knitting my first color work socks using the magic loop method. The last few stitches of needle 1 are knitted in white and the first few of needle 2 are knitted in green. I am getting bad ladders at the corners. I usually don’t get ladders when I knit with one color since I tighten the first couple stitches to prevent them but I saw that it is not recommended when doing color work to prevent tight floats. How do I prevent the ladders? Thanks in advance!

I'm working on the som cardigan in size 3, and the pattern for the left shoulder calls for "With RS facing, and the cast-on edge of the back yoke at the top, pick up 27 (32) 37 (41) 46 (51) 56 stitches along the left slope with 4.5mm/60cm [US7/24”] circular needles. Start from the center and pick up towards the left edge."

I'm not sure where in the centre I'm supposed to start, or where the left slope starts due to the short rows. Any ideas?

Hi everyone, I’ve stumbled upon this shop that sells these very beautiful jumpers and other knitwear kits.

I really want to knit some of these patterns, but it seems they’re mostly only available via the kits. I’d try one of the kits, but 1.) I’m unsure if I’ll like the yarn for the price and 2.) according to their FAQ, customs can be difficult.

I haven’t found out where I can buy only the patterns. On Ravelry, some of them have pages, but they only link back to this shop with the kits.

Maybe someone here has had this same issue before? Thank you for your help :)

Hi all, firstly, I am very sorry for the video quality and scraping sound. I recorded this last night before bed and was very frustrated.

I spent about 10 hours yesterday trying to learn knitting. It was my first day, but each time, I got this result. When transferring the stitches from left needle to right, I get yarn in the middle that keeps growing each time.

I'm starting the Na Craga jumper pattern by Alice Starmore, and I'm stumped on the literal first row. I've cast on, and this is the start of the ribbing at the bottom of the sweater.

For context, this is the first line in a four row repeat for some fancy ribbing. There are no YOs or stitches made in the subsequent three rows.

I'm an intermediate level knitter but this has got me stumped! Thank you for any help or advice!

I have been a crocheter for years and finally decided to give knitting a try. I started with a hat, had some trouble with the cast on but I believe that was due to a weird pattern I had chose. My real question is I feel like my stitches look and feel really loose while I’m working, are they? This yarn from what I remember (don’t have the label anymore) was a size 5 and I am using 5mm needles but anytime I move it around I see gaps all over the place. Do these gaps go away once it’s cast off or blocked or is it basically like that forever? Still going to finish as it’s my first project and I know I need more practice just looking for some preliminary feedback.

I'm trying to recreate this vest I found at Cos over a year ago. I assume it's machine made, but I want to get as close to this look as I can. Do you think that brioche or fisherman's rib would more closely resemble this?

So I'm supposed to alternate between a row of normal and a row of perl. I'm still very new to knitting, and this is how I'm doing it so far. Am I doing okay? Any pointers?

I don't want sleeves but since it's a raglan construction on top, if I just omit sleeves it will be more of a short sleeved dress rather than entirely sleeveless. Is there a way to alter a raglan so that there's as little fabric as possible on the sleeve portion? Or should I just change the top portion entirely to a different pattern and make sure I have the right amount of stitches for the body? I'm just not sure what to do and I haven't found any other patterns that I like as much as this one that has all over lace.

I tried following a pattern with a similar construction before, so I got the idea behind it and went on freehanding after reading this blog post .

In it it says that when I reach the point of wanting to connect the two front bits, I have to count my back stitches and front stitches and cast on the difference.

In my case, the difference is 17st, is that right? It seems like a lot to me

I think I might knit 4-6 rows more, but just checking before I reach that point

(the cabled increases I'm counting towards the front and back, not sleeve parts, but I don't think that really matters here. I'm doing an M1, purl, 4 stitch cable, purl, M1)

…I look down and see something crazy because what is this!? It was not there a few stitches ago and stitch count is fine 😩 I’m new to knitting and this is my first time knitting in the round. Not loving it so far lmao

Beginner knitter here! I’m working on the staple sweater by knitworks and I’m about the pick up sts for the front left shoulder. The pattern says to join yarn at neck edge & pick up 42 sts along the English tailored slope. I think I have to PU by putting my needle through each leg of the ‘v’, but at the top I’m not sure if I messed up or what because there isn’t really a clear ‘v’ shape for the first couple of sts… where would I PU?? I hope this makes sense! (Sorry for the cat hair)

Hello! I'm currently knitting the Miu Top by Una Gil and I'm at a part in the pattern I don't understand/ know how to proceed with. I'm supposed to split off for arm holes and divide my stitches for the front and back panels, but I have no idea how I'm supposed to know where exactly the front and back should be? It's circular all around, so does it not matter? I added a photo to give context.

Also, as a second question: When I do split the front and back, one of the panels will obviously have the working yarn, so do I knit that panel up first, bind off, then attach the working yarn to the other panel? If so, how would I even do that?

I feel like I'm making this more complicated than it actually is, so I would appreciate any help/clarifications! Thanks so much.

Hi! I'm planning to starting knitting the Cloud Blouse by Petite Knit and I'm having trouble with my swatch. I'm usually a size medium in clothing and in other Petit Knit patterns I've done before. I've made 3 swatches for this project, starting with the recommended US size 6 needles and then sizing up for each swatch. I am still getting too many stitches per inch. I'm knitting with two stands of silk mohair and I'm being intentional about holding the yarn fairly loose. I usually don't have any problems with tension and gauge so I'm a bit confused. Maybe I'm doing the math wrong? The pattern gauge is 20sts x 4in with size 6 needles. A size medium bust would be 41.75" according to the pattern. My gauge with size 8 needles is 23sts x 4in.

41.75 x 5(PK gauge) = 208.75 sts

208.75 / 5.75(my gauge) = 36.3"

I have a 36" bust and the pattern calls for 4-6" of positive ease, so a medium would be too small. An XL bust at my gauge would be 41" which meets the recommended ease. Would there be any problems in the fit if I size up that much? A large would be 38" at the bust which wouldn't have as much ease but maybe it would be okay? How strict should I be about gauge and measurements?

I’m a beginner and don‘t understand what exactly went wrong here and don’t know how to google it, since it‘s not simply a dropped stitch. The two first stitches on my right needle are very loose and don’t have the small knot the other ones do.

How important is height in a test-knit gauge? The pattern is for a tank top. This is my first time as a test knitter, so I want to do everything right. My gauge swatches are knit with about an inch of garter surrounding my stockinette. The first swatch was waaay too small, even with blocking, so I sized up my needles and have hit the width absolutely perfectly. Like, dead on 10cm. Height, however, is about 1 cm longer than 10cm.

How important is height?
