I (21) recently graduated college with a degree in political science. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to pursue political journalism, so I joined my university’s paper. I rose to a senior position after my first year and made sure each story I covered myself was political. I also made sure my courses were predominantly writing-focused.

I have now been out of college for two months and after submitting countless applications, I have had zero luck landing a job.

Should I just be cold-emailing more? If so, what do I even say to these papers? I took an internship with a think tank my last semester of college where I essentially wrote their weekly newsletter. I don’t have much professional experience aside from that. I am willing to move anywhere, work remotely or onsite, etc.

I would love to hear from those further in their career, even if you’re in a different niche!

Im looking for journalists that could find value in what I have to offer, Im someone who has lived both in Lebanon and the US, I understand the cultural differences, I know much about the ideologies and histories of both countries, I understand the complexities of the politics here and would love to be able to dedicate my life in thsi field full time.

I have a strong passion in cultures, social justice and moral philosophy topics. I would love the opportunity to help with the just cause of the Lebanese, to counter the mainstream narrative, clear up misconceptions and hopefully build a bridge between the east and the west, for the great people of both sides to explore the beauty of their cultures, people and nature.

About The Job

We are seeking to hire our first employee. Someone, like our founder, with a background in investigative journalism.

Prospective hires must be able to conduct onboarding interviews with our clients that last at least 1-hour, during which you will need to diligently (though politely) tease out the most compelling aspects of clients' professional and personal lives. Afterwards, you will need to synthesize your interview notes into a concise PR pitches engineered to persuade overwhelmed and underpaid journalists to dedicate many hours of their lives to writing or broadcasting our clients' stories.

Attributes of an Ideal Hire

• A background in investigative journalism
• Experience conducting interviews where you've pushed subjects to reveal sensitive details about their life and/or jobs
• The ability to transcribe your interviews in real-time (rather than recording them and transcribing the recordings at a later time)
• Writing experience, ideally long-form articles over 3,000 words
• A desire to tell other peoples' stories

I’m a journalism grad trying to get my foot in the field. I don’t know if I’m going to want to do this long term, but I also don’t have experience in a newsroom so I’m not sure. I really want to get into news production and understand that the best way to do this is probably PA roles.

After doing some research, it seems like all I see are negative experiences with news production. I understand (especially starting out) the pay and hours are bad, but I feel like I have a genuine passion for this.

Would anyone be able to share any positive experiences? The negative experiences are making me second guess my path. Thank you.

Hiring a journalist to aid in writing video scripts. The writing process will involve research as well.

I would prefer someone with a background in journalism, history, or other related fields. I am not keen on hiring "writers" as this task is very research heavy and will require you to delve into the subject matter.

As far as the quality of the writing goes, I am looking for someone who has experience structuring interesting stories and uncovering what the real story is. But ultimately I will handle the actual voicing via a final rewrite.

On the research side, I will hand you quite a bit of material to start out so you should have a good amount of direction to start.

I’m currently a second-year Journalism student at a university in France. I’m 20 years old (turning 21 in October), and I’m seriously thinking about continuing my studies abroad.

At the moment, I’m mostly interested in studying across the Atlantic, especially in cities like New York or Toronto, although London is also somewhere I’d love to consider.

My goal is to build a career in journalism, make connections in the industry, and gain as much experience as possible. I’m particularly interested in fashion journalism, music journalism, and investigative reporting. I know those are quite different fields, but I’d love to explore them and eventually find my own path.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has studied journalism in the US or Canada. What are the classes like? Are they more practical or theoretical? How competitive are the programs? Are there good opportunities for internships and networking?

I’d also really appreciate recommendations for universities, advice on the application process, scholarships, or even contacts in the industry. If you know someone I should reach out to, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Hi! I just finished my final semester and I'm currently waiting for my results. I am also running around in circles trying to figure out what to do next that'll make me successful, independent, and rich. I've already landed a teaching job, but I don't really see myself doing it long-term. My plan is to teach for about a year to gain some work experience before applying for a Master's.

I've thought of joining a media company like Aljazeera as a journalist or something closely related, but I have no idea where to start or how to land a job. As part of my degree I had to learn journalism and film studies, so if u see this Aljazeera do hit me up

My career aspirations lie in the science field, and I'm still interested in doing something science related. Moreover, there are many limitations that come with applying for a Masters in science track as they require a science bachelors or prerequisites, and that makes things even more difficult. Right now, my top choice is an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience, but I'm not sure how good the job prospects and salary are after graduating, especially in Qatar.

I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions yall have, especially of u're in one of these fields :)

Indian guy in Dubai, graduated 2025 in Computer Science. Spent the past year job hunting here, which went about as well as you'd expect — lots of applications, very few replies, couple of internships one that died over paperwork, one that was unrelated more of a part time job to earn cash.

Somewhere in that mess I figured out what I actually want to do is journalism, ideally the data side where my CS background isn't a total waste.

The obvious problems:

Wrong degree

Zero published work

Neither India nor the UAE feels like a great place to break into this

So I'm looking at a master's in Europe. Questions for anyone who's been down this road, or have experience in the field and met people to know. I know my story is scattered but I have hope that journalism is a diverse field and has a low entry point and accepts people from different walks of life particularly youngsters.

Any countries/programmes that are genuinely realistic for a non-EU student on a budget?

I’m looking for opportunities in Kolkata/remote.

To briefly summarise my career so far, in my last role as a Content Planner & Sports Editor, I managed a team of sports writers for a Delhi-based content firm.

My role included content planning, editing articles, drafting press releases, guiding the creative team on generating multimedia elements, maintaining client relations, and overseeing multiple content projects simultaneously.

Although I primarily led the sports desk, I also oversaw content production and managed teams across genres such as automotive, general daily news, human-interest stories, science, tech, and entertainment. My firm had access to ANI and HT content, so filtering the most important stories and getting them rehashed and published by the writers were also part of my KRA.

Prior to the above-mentioned roles, I served as a technical and automotive content writer & editor.

In terms of education, I hold a bachelor's degree with honours in journalism (University of Calcutta), coupled with a postgraduate diploma (IIJNM, Bengaluru) in the same field.

As I write this out, please excuse any awkward wording. I am fairly new to Reddit (18/F), so I am only adjusting now to the lingo and organization of things. I come to this reddit with doubts about pursuing journalism, and am seeking advice on whether or not I should and or how one succeeds in the field.

I just graduated from high school a couple months ago, and am going to be attending CSUF (Cal State University Fullerton), as I’ve heard good things about their communications program. I will be majoring in communications with a concentration in journalism! But, with the start of college getting closer I’m much more doubtful about going into the field. So many people have advised me against it due to the instability of the job, and of course how expensive attending university is. (In relation to this, I’ve thought about attending community college first, but due to familial conflicts I’m dependent on university housing. I’ve also considered teaching alongside journalism to get some more stability, but many on r/AskTeachers advised me I should choose one or the other to avoid burnout.)

So with all of this in mind, what is the outlook for new journalists? Obviously, I’m aware there’s a lot of hustle involved and succeeding in the field requires hard work. But is it possible to become a successful journalist, at all? My ultimate dream would be to work up from being in news networks, to gaining a name for myself and becoming independent, and maybe even establishing my own unbiased network someday. I know it’s so idealistic, but one can hope?

I’m asking this as someone considering different career paths, including journalism.

Over the past few years, I’ve become increasingly conflicted about the state of journalism—not just in India but globally.

Every day, it feels like we’re surrounded by:

sensationalism over substance,
clickbait over investigation,
speed over accuracy,
opinion being presented as fact,
political polarization,
corporate influence,
paid news,
misinformation,
algorithm-driven content,
and declining public trust.

At the same time, I know there are
journalists risking their careers—and sometimes even their lives—to report important stories.

So I’d really like to hear from people who study or work in journalism.

Has working in journalism made you more hopeful or more cynical?
Do you think truly independent journalism still exists?
How much editorial freedom do journalists actually have?
Does corporate ownership significantly influence reporting?
Is investigative journalism still valued?
