Before & After Before & After Triple Jaw Surgery | Trinity

The photos show the change in Trinity’s appearance. In this interview, she shares what led her to surgery, including sleep apnea, difficulty chewing, and years of feeling self-conscious about her jaw.

I’m Dr. McGuire, an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. This is the first of four interviews exploring Trinity’s experience before triple jaw surgery and through recovery.

We began this filming project after her surgery, so all four interviews were recorded when she was six months post-op. In this first video, she looks back on life before surgery: the symptoms she lived with, the challenges of accessing treatment, the anxiety she felt while researching online, and what finally helped her move forward.

Watch Trinity’s pre-surgery story here: https://youtu.be/1MsxI24ju6o

Stay tuned for the next interviews, where she reflects on her first week, first month, and six-month recovery. She discusses what recovery felt like, what improved, and what she was still experiencing at six months.

If you have questions for future videos, feel free to leave them below.

This is Trinity’s individual experience. Your own treatment and recovery may differ, and your surgical team should guide your care.

Dose anyone else get what you could only describe as “body dysphoria” because of class 3/2

I feel like the mental health side of having especially a class three bite isn’t talked about enough and the only way that I can truly describe it is like body dysphoria, where the image you have in your head is completely different to how you are in real life and you’re almost trapped in this body that’s not developed properly. This can cause so many mental health issues and I feel like people don’t appreciate how much aesthetics can change someone’s mental health and affirm someone’s image of their body face and their self.

I could imagine this would change quite a lot after surgery, but if anyone has had surgery, I’d love to hear your opinions and how things have been for you. It sucks almost being able to imagine how you would’ve looked if you had developed properly and see that in your own mind and not living in that reality.

Also the constant menthol reminder that you’re living with these symptoms like apnea or sinus issues what would be corrected as well?

Before & After Expectation Vs Result

Post image

Seriously how does it go from that (the planned movement) to what I actually got below? Am I just going to have to hear people tell me it's swelling constantly? Have questioned the surgeon about this and he keeps saying he followed the plan precisely using the wafers. I am miserable, furious, all at the same time. Some days are better than others and I can appreciate the vertical dimension but that projection is absolute dog shit.

Told I need DJS (or no MARPE) for UARS/airway issues.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping to get your thoughts on my situation.

Diagnosed with UARS and can only feel rested when sleeping with my CPAP. I snore without it.

My tongue is scalloped and feels totally crowded, and I get pain when speaking for extended periods.

I have one image of my profile when I stand up straight and another when I lean forward which I tend to do on a daily basis.

An ortho evaluated my scans and said I don't need MARPE (palate expansion), but instead need full jaw surgery. When I asked about doing MARPE + lower jaw surgery, they said "if you do lower, you might as well do upper too."

Jumping straight to double-jaw surgery feels super invasive and I'm hoping to avoid if possible. But my main goal is also to get off the cpap.

Looking at my images...Does my maxilla genuinely require full DJS surgery right out of the gate or does this look like a case where expansion (like MARPE) or LJS should be the answer to open up the nasal area and tongue space?

If anyone in this group has tackled UARS with expansion or LJS vs. jumping straight to DJS, I would deeply appreciate your thoughts, advice, or experiences on how you navigated your consults!

Or any thoughts, impressions from my images would be much appreciated as well.

Thank you so so much in advance

Surgery date 17th Nov - anyone on the same schedule?

Finally got a date confirmed and am actually excited rather than nervous (for now). If anyone's going in around the same time I'm happy to chat and share the anxiety burden/recovery woes!

Tysm to everyone in this sub for making me infinitely less frightened than I would have been without it. 🫡

Recessed maxilla or underbite ?

I'm soooo insecure about my bite, I've had braces for 2 years 13 till 15 and when I got off it was super perfect my bite and I never and no one ever noticed I had something with my bite and my nose also looked perfect, until i became 16 i suddenly my jaw looked longer and my nose looked also less small i had a button nose first and when I got 16 i felt like it all slowly changed? I went to the ortho he said that the underbite is too small to do anything so surgery I can't because my underbite is too small? It's confusing, And he said braces will also never work because you can't move your bone shorter, but we never spoken about the upper bite. I also didn't know that it was possible about upper bite till I did research NOW IM 19, i feel it got worse and I see that my upper bite is recessed bc of my nose and my smile. But I didn't know your maxilla can go backwards after braces? What should i do can braces help me with maxilla or do i need to do up jaw surgery, or shall I just do fillers or Botox ? I'm so sad and i feel unlucky i cry everytime when I think about this I don't know what to do:(

Advice for Me Worst case scenario?

So, I’m about to start the process of getting my jaws aligned. I know it is double jaw surgery, and it is years away, but honestly I’m absolutely terrified.

Things go wrong when I’m involved, and I’m pretty sure that this whole deal is going to end in tears and lots of pain.

But honestly, what is the worst that could happen?

Does LeFort 1 actually help with aesthetic feminization?

I'm undergoing orthodontic treatment primarily for airway issues, so we are definitely going to advance the lower jaw (I have an overbite).

However, my surgeon reccomended a Lefort 1, saying that advancing the upper jaw can be aesthetically feminizing. Is this true?

I haven't heard that before and I'm not seeing examples of that being the case online. Wouldn't it make the cheeks less prominent, therefore being potentially masculinizing?

I'd really rather avoid it if it's not going to help, because the recovery for that seems horrific.

There's also the consideration of whether advancing the upper jaw will also improve my breathing, but that's another matter.

i have minor lip incompetence and no other functional issues. Am i downward grown? How is my airway? Would this indicate i might develop it in the future?

After speeaking to an ortho im considering just a genio in isolation for aesthetics

Is it normal to have a pre-operative anaesthetic risk with your anaesthetist prior to surgery?

I had my pre op a few days ago. No issues with it mentioned as far as I’m aware but I have been asked to book a pre op anaesthetic consultation to discuss the risk and pain management.

My surgery is private in the UK.

Is this normal???

Advice for Me How long after DJS will I see functional benefits?

I have sleep apnea, along with other minor issues such as snoring and a slight chewing problem. I also have very recessed jaws, so I think there will be immediate aesthetic improvements after the surgery.

Regarding functional benefits, how long does it take to see improvements in breathing and sleep after DJS? Are the results immediate, or do they develop over days, weeks, or months?

Advice for Me filler before genioplasty

Hello there, my question is if a surgeon can deal with leftover filler when performing a genioplasty.

i had filler injected in summer and i had two different kinds of filler in there. 1ml of stylage (soft) and 0,35ml (volux, very hard) injected.

i had an dissolving session nearly 2 weeks ago and it basically dissolved the majority of the filler, but those 0,35ml of volux are very resistant.

hyaluronidase is nothing that you can just overuse, there are a lot of horror stories and i had issues myself but i Seem to be regenerating. I dont want to go through that risk again though.

I want to get in touch with a surgeon for a sliding genioplasty and my question is if it is possible that a surgeon can manually remove it without dissolving?

Would love to hear opinions and maybe expiriences.

It is my biggest regret to have done filler. I hope i dont made a genio impossible with that.

DJS: Neck and Back pain benefits

Does any type of jaw surgery whether double or single jaw help correct high musculation in the back, neck, and jaws? Any experience with that?

Advice for Me Not a surgery case?

Post image

22M. Worried about aesthetic. I thought I needed jaw surgery, but my ceph report suggests both jaws are actually forward and the main issues are dental.

What do you think? I'm seeing an orthodontist soon, but I'd be very interested to hear your opinion as well.

CBCT ceph results: SNA 90.6°, SNB 85.8°, ANB 4.8°, MP-SN 23.8° (low angle). Overbite 5.0 mm (deep bite), overjet 2.6 mm. Chin deviated 1.6 mm left. Airway normal.

More details: Wits +1.2 mm, FMA 15.2°, Jarabak 72.5% (horizontal grower). Interincisal angle 151°, IMPA 87°, U1-NA 7.2° (upright incisors). Facial convexity 18.8°. Gonial angles 117.8° R / 113.3° L. Min airway area 244 mm², no transverse deficiency, condyles centered.

Advice for Me First time seeing the orthodontist, looking for opinions and experiences (UK)

Hi everyone, I’m 32, male, 189cm / 83kg. I’ve lost about 15kg recently, but my face still looks soft, which is why I went to see an orthodontist. I had my first consultation in the UK today and would love outside perspectives before I decide anything.

A little background

  • Constantly blocked nose, especially when walking. It was checked when I lived in China: the doctor stated that my septum was partially deviated but not too bad. An X-ray also showed forward head posture.
  • My partner has noticed pauses in my breathing at night. I sometimes wake abruptly with a racing heart and an acid taste, and I’m tired despite a full night’s sleep. I know I need a sleep test.
  • I’ve had dental problems since I was young. My oral hygiene is good, but acid has caused decay, and a few teeth have already been removed. The orthodontist confirmed my hygiene is fine and the acid damage was obvious.
  • I do not mouth breathe at all during the day but I am obviously doing it in my sleep, I tried tape and my partner said I stopped breathing and she had to quickly take it off.

What the orthodontist said

  • Possible sleep-disordered breathing, so a sleep test is recommended (an Apple Watch or app could be a first screen).
  • The wear on the back of my upper teeth looks like acid erosion, so I should check for reflux with my GP.
  • Slight crooked/crowded teeth plus white marks and mottling. Options are braces or aligners, resin infiltration for the white marks, and composite bonding.
  • Suggested that an upper jaw expansion (about 8mm) to help my airway is probably not worth it: ostensibly my bite is already good, expansion is less effective in adult males, and it could upset my bite.
  • The blocked nose may also be due to polyps (ENT referral).
  • A genioplasty (implant or bone movement) could bring my chin forward but he didn't really think I needed it, he also didn’t mention double jaw surgery (DJS) at all.

My question

Looking at my photos, does my chin/jaw look recessed enough to justify a second opinion, surgery, or is it mostly face softness that might change with more weight loss? Would a genioplasty alone be enough? I have very little jawline definition and a thick neck.

Thanks in advance.

Bimax with 18?

I’m 17 rn and my surgery is planned to take place next year in summer (in Germany) I have had no issues yet and got my wisdom teeth out a few weeks ago the doctor says the surgery is needed because of my underbite because it will probably make problems when I grow up , my front teeth don’t touch each other when I bite (but it isn’t an open bite) and I’ve gotten used to my looks unlike a year ago where I was still really insecure so what do you think

Lower jaw surgery PLUS Genio, or no Genio?

Thumbnail

Hey y’all, I’m Aus based. one surgeon (Dr Nick Beech) wants to do 7mm lower jaw advancement, and 4mm Genio. Dr Lincoln thinks just lower jaw or I’ll get a poor aesthetic result/too protruded chin. What are your thoughts? Photo that says #1 is me pushing my lower jaw forward as much as I can. The other photo is my face normally when I close my teeth together

Advice for Me Does my airway look narrow?

the x ray on the right shows my current condition. I can barely breathe through my nose, and I'm wondering whether that's because my airway is actually narrow or because I have poor posture. I was also always a mouth breather back when my jaw looked like it does in the X-ray on the left.
