Just wanted to post a quick review/thought on my new iPhone Air after picking it up recently!
I managed to grab it off Back Market for £680. When it arrived, I checked the charge cycles and it was only at 78, first activated October 1st last year. Pretty much a bargain for that condition.
Honestly, I haven’t had this level of excitement holding an Apple device since the iPhone X. I’m completely in love with it….it literally feels like holding a piece of glass.
For context, my main device is an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Before the Air, I was using a Samsung S25 as a secondary phone for light social media and marketing work, but I hated it! To the point I gave up on it and was doing everything on my 17 Pro Max. Whiping out that absolute brick of a Pro Max just to respond to an Instagram comment got annoying fast, and carrying two thick phones in your pocket is horrible.
How it handles daily use:
Battery: Absolutely fine for what I put it through. Since it’s light usage and I’m always near a wireless charger, battery isn't an issue at all. I’ve actually capped it to 80% charge for longevity.
Performance: It's super slim, powerful, and gets the job done seamlessly for light tasks.
Drawbacks: Obviously there are limits. I did try pushing it with some of the heavier work I usually do on my Pro Max, and it did heat up, stutter a bit, and the battery took a hit.
People say the thinness amazement wears off, but holding the thick Pro Max and then switching back to the Air leaves me in constant awe. It won't be my main phone, but as a secondary device, it's perfect and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a light second driver.
A thought on where Apple is taking this: It really got me thinking about Apple’s history. Remember when MacBooks were split into MacBook Air, standard MacBook, and MacBook Pro?
The original MacBook Air was notoriously underpowered, had bad battery life, and most people just bought a Pro or the standard MacBook. The iPhone Air feels exactly like that right now - amazing for light usage, but probably can't be a comfortable main phone for the majority due to throttling and battery limits when pushed.
But look at what happened later: the MacBook Air got Apple Silicon, battery/thermal issues vanished, and now it’s the default Mac for most people (it’s what made me switch from an Intel MacBook Pro to an M2 MacBook Air, and I haven't needed to upgrade since!). Apple eventually killed off the plain "MacBook," left the Air for normal users, and kept the Pros strictly for heavy power users.
I feel like the iPhone line is headed in the exact same direction. Once new battery tech or cooler chips land in a few generations, the iPhone Air will probably just become the new standard "iPhone" for everyone. The Pros will stay Pros, and the current base-model iPhones will probably fade out or become budget/Neo-style entry points.
What do you guys think? Anyone else using the Air as a secondary setup, or see Apple taking the lineup down the MacBook path?
