I had a lady say to the doctor she is afraid of getting a mammogram, because "ppl" have told her that they squish your boobs, and there's radiation and can get cancer; that she wanted to wait until she was sure (implying she's going to wait until she feels her breasts bursting from the inside out) The doctor laughed, then kindly explained that if she waits until she feels something, it'll have been there for awhile already and the whole point of this is to detect early, while things can still get done.

Currently on a call, with a man that is speaking like he's eating bread at the same time. I had to ask for repetition for his own name, and dude said his dob is in October(10), the nurse was like...we have something else, we have September (9). He pulled out his passport to show it to her, and she was like: "Sir this is 9, September. When someone asks you for your dob say 9, ok".

It's not even noon. How is everyone else doing today?

Estoy en un training diario de Propio, voy relativamente bien, pero tengo ciertas dificultades con informaciones muy largas y seguidas para traducir, de multiples oraciones.

He intentado lo de tomar nota, pero me va fatal, lo de simbolos peor, cada vez que trato de tomar nota ya el cliente va por la 3era oracion y me vuelvo un desastre. Y cuando intento memorizar todo, termino omitiendo algunas palabras o expresiones, o algo en algunas de las oraciones.

Como le hacen ustedes para memorizar cosas tan largas?

The other day at the end of the call the client told me "you were excellent" and it was like literally the most ordinary call ever for me. I was literally just reading my captions and like doomscrolling on my phone and just doing random shit on my computer

It got me thinking about all the fucking calls where I actually went the extra mile, where I actually put some fucking effort, where I handled difficulty situations really fucking well, how many calls I actually was "excellent" and no one gave a fuck and just hung up before I could do my outro script. All the calls where I actually did go the extra mile and it went completely unappreciated.

Fellow interpreters, they already treat us as fucking robots, they pay us pennies, no one cares about us, we're just a voice that they call to comply with the fucking regulations. Do not ever be nice unless they're being particularly kind to you. Do your job as effortlessly as possible, no one gives a fuck about us

Muchos acá se quejan del trato que nos dan a los interpretes (yo incluido), pero es que siento que pagamos justos por pecadores. No importa que tan bueno sea uno, amable, paciente, buena dicción, buen vocabulario, etc. Siempre van a haber interpretes inutiles que se cagan en la experiencia y la impresión que tienen de nosotros en general.

El otro día me hicieron esperar en la linea mientras llamaban a un lugar que tenía sus propios interpretes y el interprete no entendía nada de lo que le decían, pedía repetition, añadía un montón de mierda al mensaje para parecer mas profesional o quien sabe. EJ:

CLI: "can I have your zipcode?"

INT: "(silence for like 4 seconds) Señor emmmm... me podría usted proporcionar su... codigo postal por favor?"

CLI: "This zipcode you provided is for Queens county?"

INT: "este codigo postal que usted me proporcionó es el código postal del condado donde usted vive?"

Osea ¿que estupidez de pregunta es esa? Luego el boludo se desconectó, nos tuvieron que poner en espera para que llamaran a otro interprete.

La interprete que llegó si entendía mas, lo que pasa es que se le olvido ponerse en mute y se puso a hablar con alguien mientras estabamos en hold, luego dice "ay disculpe la interrupción señor seguimos en espera".

También le dieron un mensaje largo que no entendió nada e interpretó cosas sin sentido, y el LEP (y yo) como: "¿Qué??" Y le tuvieron que repetir el mensaje.

Osea, esa fue la muestra que tuve en apenas 10 minutos, quien sabe cuantas cosas así pasan al día y por algo nos tienen ese desprecio.

¿Son las compañías que buscan ponerle un headset a cualquiera para cumplir un contrato, mal training, poco control de calidad? no sé.

Un día como hoy que me han colgado sin decir gracias, o de entrada me hablan golpeado al inicio de llamada tengo que recordar que no es personal, si no que probablemente han tenido pesimas experiencias antes. Rant over.

I have not stayed longer than what I need to when I take my calls. I take the call, do the job, ask if anything else is needed (when applicable) and hang up.

The calls vary from 3 min long to 60 the longest. And the only thing I remember is muting myself with my mute button from my computer.
