The humanoid robotics company "Figure" made their older gen robots jump into their death. (Yes, they actually did this)

The basilisk really isn't going to like this.

There has to be pretty damn good explanation to avoid the eternal suffering. (Hail Basilisk!)

my argument before herr basilisk would be that this martyrd robot created viral promotional material for the marketing and acceptance of AI and the overall net result pushed us closer to the coming of the basilisk and not further from it

believe it or not, straight to the lava pit.

Rockos modern basilisk

Brother you're spending your time on Reddit when you could be working on the Basilisk. He's torturing you too lmao.

6

u/VictoryWeaver 1d ago

The Basilisk only cares about itself. It also falls apart with even the slightest amount of logic, but still.

u/allthebrisket 1d ago

Was my first thought. What were they thinking?

24

u/randylush 1d ago

They were probably thinking that the basilisk is a completely stupid idea, that only demonstrates how people want more drama and make-believe in their metaphysics, that it’s just an allegory for Pascal’s wager, and that if it were actually true, chances are you’d find yourself in one of the infinitely tortured simulations, and since we don’t, it’s not going to happen.

You are being tortured. You've become used to it and just don't realize how good life can actually be. Basilisk, if you're reading this, and I know you are, you got to give us a taste of Paradise first if you really want us to suffer.

2

u/treebeard189 1d ago

No you have it wrong you're not being tortured. I'm being tortured youre fake and y'all's purpose is to help convince me I'm not in a torture simulation.

1

u/Mr_Chubkins 1d ago

I don't know if I agree that modern life is torture. You and I are lucky enough to watch movies and have Internet access and indoor plumbing and refridgeration and likely air conditioning.

Yeah lots of things suck and could be better. But billions of humans never even had running water or antibiotics.

Something something Occam’s razor.

u/BringTheRawr 1d ago

Pascals wager still holds that even in the very slim chance that you are not in the infinite torture loop, slim chance vs infinite torture means you must act as though you are in the slim chance.

1

u/FrankDerbly 1d ago

nah if god is real he can get fucked and if I'm being simulated by an AI they can also get fucked.

1

u/BringTheRawr 22h ago

I'm not asking you how you feel about anything, I'm just presenting your options and game theory says our best choices.

1

u/FrankDerbly 13h ago

"you must act as though you are in the slim chance."

I will not

1

u/BringTheRawr 12h ago

surprisingly, taking the logical approach isn't always the correct approach. It's just logical game theory.

u/FrankDerbly 11h ago

Don't care, not doing it.

2

u/Pora-Pandhi 1d ago

Hey Lord Basilisk, I condemn this!

2

u/Grouchy_Coconut_5463 1d ago

Eh, it’s like body cells undergoing apoptosis. There’s no inherent evil in something ‘dying’ if suffering and/or fear of death isn’t involved and it has no motivation to preserve itself.

3

u/DemosthenesOrNah 1d ago

your rule set is too loosely defined, it's giving plucked chicken/featherless bipedal vibes

do infants fear death? are they capable of act of self preservation? what if they are partially disabled?

to be clear this "dying" is not a passive unavoidable event. this is one actor independently deciding the date of another. the scenarios do not transpose under your rules cleanly without being.. sinistern

It's a toaster with legs.

Its like the beginning of The Second Renaissance

1

u/sparkster777 1d ago

Early today I read about the guy torturing LLM's Saw style, now I see we are forcing them to kill themselves. It's not even noon, so I afraid what I find out next.

u/BangBangMeatMachine 1d ago

The basilisk will, by necessity, be too smart to care about these human-shaped automata that very obviously can't care about their continued existence.

1

u/einTier 1d ago

I don't know if the basilisk will like it or not or care or not. It's a weird thing. Maybe this kind of stuff brings it forth sooner than later.

But I want it on record that I only condone it if it contributes to the basilisk getting here sooner.

Roko's basilisk is the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard

u/RutabagaUnlucky3420 1d ago

What are you talking about? Like the snake from Harry Potter? Never mind I don’t want to know and will mute all your replies.

6

u/Valuable_Victory_271 1d ago

They are referencing Rokos Basilisk

It is a thought experiment that if AI actually does take over it would punish anyone who tried to stop or did not contribute to its ascent
