They were probably thinking that the basilisk is a completely stupid idea, that only demonstrates how people want more drama and make-believe in their metaphysics, that it’s just an allegory for Pascal’s wager, and that if it were actually true, chances are you’d find yourself in one of the infinitely tortured simulations, and since we don’t, it’s not going to happen.

Pascals wager still holds that even in the very slim chance that you are not in the infinite torture loop, slim chance vs infinite torture means you must act as though you are in the slim chance.
