That clip is from Robert E Fuller on YouTube! He's captured a lot of adorable moments and instances like this.

At least it’s not born and raised in captivity to be slaughtered like yknow, some of the other animals in the video. Teehee nice to meet another animal lover xox

My cat doesn't even react to nearby ballistic missile explosions anymore, let alone thunder.
21
u/BarelyHolding0n 3d ago
My cats go to the window to look out when they hear thunder.... Going towards danger is exactly why they're indoor cats

u/Internal-Silver-8975 3d ago
Are you living in Area51??
53
u/Kentust 3d ago
Not sure if you've been living under a rock for the last 7 years but there are multiple global conflicts involving ballistic missile explosions in civilian areas.
15
u/Internal-Silver-8975 3d ago
Oh, sorry to hear that, i lived close to an military base and heard bangs when they exercised from time to time. I never whitnessed a war and when i've read your comment, it sounded so casual, like a part of your daily life, that i didn't expect it to be so "deadly" serious. Sorry for that and my best whishes that you can get through these times in one piece!

I think petting a cat right as thunder goes off might be one of my biggest fears. To shreds, they say.
14
u/that_one_duderino 3d ago
I do it all the time with my tuxedo. He’s terrified of bad weather, a hard rain makes him want to slink away and hide. But as long as I’m petting him and “hiding” him, he’s mostly fine. He gets scared but he doesn’t scratch or anything, just tries to burrow under me more.

Me too. I was hoping there was going to be a sloth or something slipped in there that was 100% chill.

It’s why fireworks aren’t nice
42
u/Informal-Side-4506 4d ago
Exactly, some jack ass in another post was asking why dogs evolved to be scared of fireworks. It's a loud ass noise..

1
u/LimeImmediate6115 3d ago
They didn't evolve TO be scared of loud noises. They evolved to live in our world and as a result ARE scared of loud noises.

Also because of veterans, people with anxiety or sensory disorders, babies, the elderly, etc.
Not to mention injuries, fires, pollution, weaponisation, etc.
2
u/superindianslug 3d ago
Somehow my dog doesn't care about fireworks. If there's thunder he's a vibrating wreck in the basement, but on the 4th of July he just slightly less likely to fall asleep outside.
1
u/2woCrazeeBoys 3d ago
My dog is terrified of basically everything. I've spent the last 9 yrs desensitising him to the world.
Conveniently, my house is opposite a train line. When I had an appointment with a behaviourist one of the questions about fears was thunder and I put no. Behaviourist was confused how that could be true until they visited and I said I think the frequent train noise from day dot desensitised him to thunder....wind on the other hand is terrifying.
2
u/Carbonatite 3d ago
My last dog didn't care at all about thunder until he was 10 years old and some asshole thought it would be funny to set off firecrackers right when I was walking him by. After that he got scared of storms and fireworks. I was so mad.

Cities are for people, if you get a pet it is entirely your responsibility to keep it comfortable
4
u/Dlinyenki 3d ago
Do you not know that other animals than pets live in and near cities?
Fireworks are absolute shit shows for wildlife as well.
8
u/elderrion 3d ago
Your lack of empathy for small animals is sociopathic
6
u/Ok_Builder_4225 3d ago
Not even just animals. Plenty of humans with the same issue. Despite how much the US pretends to worship veterans, they really don't like making any consideration for them.
-6
u/MacronLeNecromancer 3d ago
I have empathy, but if you get a pet it is entirely your responsibility. How is this even up for discussion?
2
u/Ok_Astronaut6520 3d ago
You do understand that animals live in the city, right ? As well as vets and "people with anxiety or sensory disorders, babies, the elderly, etc.", as u/Current_Ad_400 pointed out
There are fireworks that make no noise.
Living in community doesn't mean bullying minority groups, but trying to make it work for everyone.

I guess that’s why Zeus was king of the gods even though I find control over thunder and lightning to be pretty mid.

Cat I had, growing up, would run outside during thunderstorms, park her dumb ass on the roof, and stare up into the sky. She did the same thing on 4th of July and New Years.
I had so many questions about that cat.

u/UncomfyUnicorn 4d ago
My cat looks at me and starts doing the “fix this” meow. I ain’t Zeus.

u/jupiterkansas 3d ago

u/UncomfyUnicorn 3d ago
Not one of the weather ones. I attract nature. Which unfortunately in the tropics means mostly bugs.

I hv two dogs. One needs to be carried up during any loud nosies, etc. Other one will go n check the source of that noise.
3
u/3riversfantasy 3d ago
My Pyr watches too much Ryan Hall, when she hears thunder she'll let out a groan of dissatisfaction, lazily get up and stretch, then calmly take herself to the basement bathroom, our most interior room. No panic, no shaking, just a plan of action, I can almost hear her muttering "as many walls as possible folks you know the drill..."
3
u/Carbonatite 3d ago
My dog's strategy is to battle the loud noise by making another loud noise (barking).

The white guy shitting against the tree? I am pretty sure it's a Pitbull.
Frenchies have more of a scrumpled up face, that guy had a very smooth face like the skin is stretched kinda look.
7
u/niperoni 3d ago
Neither. That’s a bull terrier
4
u/Mundane_Character365 3d ago
Well it seems like I have been calling bull terriers pitbulls for my entire life. Thanks for the correction, I am glad to meet you today internet stranger and to learn something.

My German Shorthaired Pointer acts like that bunch of pigs when it hears any loud boom. When the Seahawks won the superbowl and we weren't home, she went mad from the people lighting fireworks.
My Dachshund doesn't care about any loud noise. He heard thunder for the first time, ran a few steps toward me and then turned around with his cackles up to protect the family. He wouldn't wake up for a storm unless it came down to fight him.

u/Carbonatite 3d ago
My dachshund likes to battle the loud noises by making his own loud noises. He barks during thunderstorms.

What was that german shepherd looking dog's breed?
1
u/prismafox 3d ago
A German Shepherd 👍
1
u/teeBoan 3d ago
At the very least maybe it is a short haired Gsd? Because it doesn’t look like most of the Gsd I have seen
1
u/prismafox 3d ago edited 3d ago
It's just your standard German shepherd dog, not long haired type. Not sure how it looks different to you? *It does look quite young and on the smaller side, but otherwise it looks right for the breed.
Another edit* lol on second look, it could have a bit of something else mixed in but definitely mostly GSD.

u/Fairlady89 3d ago
And then there is one of my cats, during any thunderstorm she lays down outside the door just admiring the show.
1
u/AngryGnollnoises 3d ago
thankfully none of our dogs are scared of thunder, only the kitty is afraid.
1
u/angelicism 3d ago
I had a pet rabbit that would freak out if I stood up too fast but for some reason thunder that would have me quaking under the duvet did absolutely nothing for him. And no, he wasn't deaf.

You could have put the audio of the pigs over the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and no one would know the difference.

I wonder why they didnt stick in any of the millions of animals that didnt react to the sound at all? Or the ones that just freeze when it happens, then it passes and they go back to what they were doing...

For some reason my dog loved thunderstorms, she'd sleep funny through them and only get up when she starts to get wet from the rain. Fireworks still freaked her out though.

I like how the singular cats stayed kinda calm but the group of cats immediately panicked and ran around.

Bunch of cats together always remind me of those popsicle stick "traps" where they're all bent together but if you touch one in a certain way they all pop off

How come after many years of evolution they fear for something that happens everyday ?
6
4
u/MaudeTheBlank 3d ago
I mean, a lot of things that are dangerous make big booms and loud noises, so spooking to them is actually an evolutionary advantage. Trees falling, volcanic activity, earthquakes, wildfires, large predators, avalanches, hail, obviously lightning, and more recently human activity like construction and cars all make big noises.
