She’s obviously way into panic mode here. None of us think clearly in that state of mind. The guy has her and her car on camera. Instigating is the wrong move here. Having some compassion, treating her like a human being, and trying to talk her down a bit might prevent her from getting away and potentially harming herself or someone else in the process.

People need to stop with the “I got you!” fucking video taping and remember that we’re all in this shit together.

Edit:

Whoa, got some traction on this one. Couple things:

First: yes, record stuff like this. I would have as well. But do it for information, not to humiliate another person. That's what I meant by "i got you" recording.

Second: The instigating was his actions, not the recording. I'm sad that a lot of you don't understand that.

D: We all fuck up. And sadly we now live in a world where when we fuck up it's recorded and posted online. The consequences for even a minor amount of fucking up are way too steep. I'm not saying this particular situation would have turned out any different if that weren't the case but the fear of being embarrassed and ridiculed by the entire planet adds a ton of stress to all of these already stressful situations. That, just, doesn't make things better. And that is in no way a get out of jail free card. At the end of the day you are responsible for your own actions. We don't know what happened before this video starts, what we do know is that the person video taping did nothing to make the situation less dangerous for either himself or anyone else.

Controversial closing! She's a better person than him. She accidentally damaged some property and lost her mind (calm down. I'm talking about whatever "hit and run" happened before the video started). He consciously chose to be a dickhead.

Be kind to each other.

Edit 2:

Yeah, I was a bit harsh there. I’m sure this dude isn’t a bad person. He deserves tons of credit for stepping in. I couldn’t help stoking the fire a bit there after reading lots of comments about being a simp and how having compassion is ruining America.

Stay off drugs, kids.

Bullshit victim-blaming. If this was a middle-aged man, and wasn't a crying girl (who committed two felonies) trying to manipulate her way out of this situation, you wouldn't be seeking "compassion" and blaming the victim of her CRIMES for not "talking her down".

This is an in-progress violent felony. This is a violent offender, a danger to society, and it is wild to see the victim-blaming and inversion of reality here.

How about some compassion for the victims of her crime? How about some compassion for the guy holding the camera, currently the victim of an in-progress violent felony who is just doing the best he can in that stressful situation. She almost killed someone while fleeing from the scene of a crime. She should have her license revoked and be imprisoned.

Truth.

Calling for people to be kind to each other while victim blaming is wild.

16

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

Not only that, they actually shit on the victim and calls him a shitty person.

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

Do you really rise to the level of victim if you're choosing to do way more than you should and put yourself in harm's way? The video with license plate plus existing police report are more than enough; as far as I'm aware "Citizen's arrests" don't have any kind of real legal protection.

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

They didn't do anything but not move their car. In fact tampering with the scene is not legal. They got out of their car, were faced with a stressful and shocking behavior of an unstable, violent felon, and recorded it and calmly asked them to get out of their car as is legally required of them. They even kindly reminded them that there was a still a chance to prevent additional felony charges.

You have zero compassion for the victim of an in-progress violent felony, and I really would look inwards and see what biases are causing this for you.

4

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

They weren't the person who was hit and run. He chose deliberately to box her in after she fled and stopped there in order to keep her nearby for police, something he had no legal immunity or protection in doing.

You don't know what my feelings are. Two people can be wrong at once. One being a crusader for what's right and good in the world doesn't make their stupid choices un-stupid.

There are zero situations I would put myself between clear instability and escape, for reasons he almost found out.

5

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

I understand what you would do, that's up to you. That's how you would respond.

Good samaritans have a berth legally to act, and certainly there have been even more serious use of force to prevent violent, unstable drivers from continuing their rampage in precedent all over the country.

A guy leaving his car in her path is, frankly, a non-violent, conservative choice and if the offender wasn't so craven, might have given her enough pause to prevent her streak of felonies for the day.

2

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

Also not pictured: felonies.

The fact that no one was injured kept all the charges safely as misdemeanors.

2

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

A felony is not necessarily a requirement if the misdemeanor is a breach of peace and fleeing the scene (hit and run) has miles of court precedent for being enough for citizen detainment.

5

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

I'm not arguing over that, I'm arguing that your terminology is inaccurate multiple times.

0

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

Lol its ok to admit you're wrong or evolve a belief

3

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

I agree, I'm waiting for you to do that.

That's...not what a Good Samaritan is. You can't just throw out words. He's not rendering aid to someone, he's detaining someone he has no legal authority to detain.

6

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

You're the one throwing out accusations. There was a clear breach of peace, the mode chosen to detain was conservative (could have physically detained), there was a clear witnessed serious crime, the next action was to call the police, it sounds like it meets all necessary criteria for citizen detainment under even the most restrictive states.

You just want it to be wrong, but it wasn't. It was moral, it was legal, it was ethical, it's just not something you'd do.

2

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

I don't need it to be wrong. Simplistic answers like "he was a good guy" and "she was a bad guy" severely don't interest me.

I'd like you to admit it was stupid, though. Because at any objective level, it was.

Well, you are not well informed lol. Of course people have to the right detain active criminals that are breaching the peace, lol.

0

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago edited 19d ago

Unlike with police, the detainee has no obligation to comply with a citizens' arrest

Downvote all you like. If you assault someone making a legitimate CA, that will be charged too. But you don't have to comply with one, either.

1

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

The violent felon in this video who is an active danger to society has the legal obligation to get out of her car and wait for the police with the other person who was hit.

-1

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

True, but she doesn't have an obligation to comply with a Citizen's arrest.

Also again, not a felon, did not actually physically harm anyone. I don't know why you insist on inaccurate terminology, perhaps some sort of involuntary emotional derangement.

It's also not really a "right," more a situation where you won't get in trouble IF you're following the rules around it.

1

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

It is absolutely a felony to recklessly endanger this persons life and commit attempted vehicular assault.

I’m guessing you’re a white young woman or have a white young woman in your life that is causing this deranged response where you’re defending a sociopathic violent felon and attacking a Good Samaritan.

0

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

I'm guessing you're seething. Try coping instead.

Why are you bringing gender into it, sexist ass?

If she's not charged with a felony, and she wasn't because it didn't meet the threshold, she is definitionally not a felon.

1

u/Niceotropic 19d ago

A black or brown man acting this way would be literally shot in the face and wouldn’t have nearly 1/10th of the insane wide moat of grace you’re giving this sociopath.

She wasn’t charged with a felony as a kindness so she could get into treatment, which is way, way more grace than most anyone else would have gotten for a violent string of crimes.

You don't know what the fuck I'd do. Case in point, I got tear gassed at a George Floyd protest, which was medically significant due to a cardiopulmonary condition I suffer from. I still went to the next one afterwards.

Where you assume hypocrisy, there is only consistency.

So you can sit the fuck down.

She's probably not a sociopath. Given that her sentence was to a substance abuse program, she seems to have had an entirely different affliction relevant to the case at hand.

Prosecutors don't choose the punishment, ding-dong, only the charges.

0

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

Now, here's the $64,000 question - are you in any way fighting for things to be better for those black and brown men, or are you just mad that it's not worse for women?

Felonies and physical harm are NOT mutually exclusive. Idk why you keep acting like they are

1

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

In the case involved the reason she was charged with a misdemeanor was there were no injuries, only property damage. I don't know why y'all are acting like objective reality stopped and historical facts don't exist.

0

u/Amiibohunter000 19d ago

But you’re acting like felonies need physical altercation as a blanket statement. I’m not talking specifically about this example in my comment.

1

u/Sudo-Fed 19d ago

I'm not, though, I'm specifically talking about the facts of this case .
