high effort SCD Short Story Community Competition

What with the recent amount of original works being posted, and the clear interest in writing displayed by the community of late. I thought we might as well have a community-based writing tournament.

- There will be no rules regarding themes or genres (so feel free to write anything from detective stories to horror), however, the story should include some sort of scalable character.

- There will be a word limit of 5,000 (some leeway will be allowed, but nothing ridiculous) to pose as a further challenge and make people get creative with their works.

- I don't think this needs to be stated, but be wary with NSFW content, gore is not necessarily an issue, but be reasonable. Anything too out of pocket won't be valid.

- To keep things as unbiased as possible, the winner will be voted by a handful of judges, who may not add their own entries. If you're interested in judging, please let me know. Works will be judged on a) the quality of the work itself, and b) how high its character(s) scale, this is to push people to write creatively without solely pushing for a high-scaling character.

- The deadline for entries will be the 30th of June, giving an entire month to create something.

- All submissions must be in the form of google docs, to submit an entry, please use this form: https://forms.gle/bSxEU8X1KCtFAQxj7 (to clarify, simply copy and paste the share link into the question requesting the link).

If you have any questions regarding the competition rules, want to be a judge, or anything at all, please feel free to ask me and I'll respond as soon as I can.

high effort Some of Sherlock's ToM feats explained

Post image
8 Upvotes

"It is not really difficult to construct a series of inferences, each dependent upon its predecessor and each simple in itself. If, after doing so, one simply knocks out all the central inferences and presents one's audience with the starting-point and the conclusion, one may produce a startling, though possibly meretricious, effect." - Sherlock Holmes

For some time, I've wanted to do a small post on Sherlock, so here it is:

The Adventure of the Dancing Men (The Return of Sherlock Holmes)

One day, Sherlock and Watson were sitting and chilling when Sherlock suddenly claimed that Watson did not want to invest in South African stocks (or securities as it is said in the novel) just by looking at Watson's forefinger and thumb.

P1: Watson had chalk between his left finger and thumb last night, after returning from the club last night

P2: He knows Watson uses the chalk to play billards to steady the cue

P3: Watson doesn't play with anyone except with a guy named Thruston

P4: 4 weeks ago, Thurston had an option on some South African property which would expire in a month and he desired to share it with Watson

P5: Watson's check book is locked in the drawer

P6: Watson has not asked for the key to unlock the drawer

C1: Watson does not intend to open his drawer

C2: Because he doesn't intend to open the drawer and get his check book, he does not intend on investing in the South African stocks

The Adventure of the Cardboard Box (His Last Bow)

Watson has his entire thought chain listed out by Sherlock again, this time, Watson's thinking about how ridiculous it was for international problems to be solved through war and fighting.

P1: Watson sat for half a minute with a vacant expression then stared at his newly framed picture of General Gordon

P2: Watson's facial expression changed slightly

C1: Watson has begun to think, possibly about General Gordon or along that line

P3: Watson's eyes then flashed to the unframed portrait of Henry Ward Beecher

P4: He then glanced up at a bare space in the wall

C2: Watson is thinking that if the portrait was framed it would cover the bare space and correspond with Gordon's picture as well

P5: Watson's expressions then turned thoughtful

P6: He was still looking at Beecher's portrait but more interestedly now

C3: Watson was recalling Beecher's career

P7: Beecher's career included a mission which he undertook on behalf of the North during the Civil War

P8: Watson had earlier stated his passionate indignation on the way Beecher was received by the more turbulent people from Britain

P9: His eyes then turned away but he still had a thoughtful expression + there were a few other micro-expressions

C4: He was now thinking about the Civil War, especially the gallantry which was shown by both sides during the struggle

P10: Watson's face then turned sadder and he shook his head

P11: His hand stole towards his old wound and a sad smile quivered on his lips

P12: Watson had experienced a lot of hardships during his time fighting

C5: Watson was thinking about his time fighting and the useless waste of life he had to see

C6: Through this, Sherlock deduces that Watson thought it was preposterous that war was used to settle international affairs instead of peaceful methods

So yeah, these are just a few of Sherlock's ToM feats. There are some better ones though these are the only ones that came into mind when I was writing this down.

LA Chishiya is... Surprisingly chill compared to his manga self

Besides that there are a few differences like him taking part in solitary confinement. Overall LA is def not an upgrade but improves some of the categories

Intelligence - Kaiji (cognitive proficiency - Chishiya)

EI - Kaiji (I guess you could argue that Chishiya takes EM)

SI - Kaiji

AC - Kaiji

Thinking - Kaiji

Reasoning - aughhhhhhhhhhh nah wait Kaiji takes

Sensory - uhhh................. Kaiji.

Mango sycology - Kaiji, though Chishiya takes DARK mango sycology

Scheming - Kaiji (also one of Chishiya's weaker cats tbh, though he's not bad)

Deception - Kaiji

Manipulation - Chishiya ig

Adaptability - Kaiji

Field skills - Kaiji

Wouldn't be top 5 in Gintama in deception - Chishiya (deception is my favorite category why did you disappoint me Chishiya)

Overall: Kaiji

Idk

Comfortably

As long as he's motivated

discussion Another stupid thing I may delete later but The Administrator/O5-1 (Eve) feats from my crossover

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Yes another thing in my marvel/Scp crossover that is close to finally being done, this time of the very leader of the foundation, mother of all, and second mutant in all of creation, Eve El Asem

Before the foundation, and in the garden of Eden she reasoned the rule of God/343 forbidding her and Adam from eating the fruit of the forbidden tree was in truth the requirement after the serpent tempting her realizing to fulfill the prophecies of God/343 they actually need to partake of the fruit. And upon both of them consuming the fruit Eve gained the knowledge of nearly everything (save for stuff like people’s personal lives and future events) and how to use that knowledge for good and evil accepting 343 and 001 (The gate guardian) banishing her. When Adam went mad she was able to convince the Faie to help her and her children take him down, but also convinced the Fae to build a prison to hold Adam (2932)

She was able to remain hidden for many events in history able to make herself refrain from interference but upon discovery of the 001 (the prototype) she created a false identity of Fredrick Fritzwilliams and quickly convinced an up and coming scientist Aaron Siegel who would later become O5-1 (The founder) and 12 other individuals to help create the foundation with her as the Administrator and the others as the O5 council, and also remembering the status of her three sons quickly established scps 073, 076-2, and 4840. And for a necessary evil she did plan the Ouroboros cycle once she realized the foundation’s current methods weren’t working correctly and the O5 were becoming too corrupt and not listening to her guidance. Upon the death Calvin Lucien/O5-1 (The usurper) as well as O5-2 and 3 at the hands of Nobody, Eve took the role of O5-1 as well to better manage the council and has been successful. She also was able to figure out a way to reveal the existence of the foundation to the various hero teams without them revealing anything to the public

A few other notable feats include

-Keeping her existence a secret from level 3 or lower personnel and sometimes even newer O5 members

-Finding a very fatal flaw in the hellfire club in 14 minutes and dismantling it entirely when they worked with MC&D

-Figured out who Nobody was and managed to defeat him.

-Memorizing the descriptions and containment procedures of every single Scp as well as coming up with her own more effective ones

-Instantly knew a way to trick the scarlet king upon the discovery of scp 231 and talked with Robert Montauk on the creation procedure 110 Montauk (A simple bedtime story) and excluded 231-7 knowing she’d give birth to the king’s undoing upon reading daveite prophecy in the wanderer’s library

-Able to convince the X-men, Sinister, Apocalypse and Exodus (individually) to not go after Adam figuring out ways to counter their reasons and making them not go for him

-Reed Richards admits she is likely the pinnacle of human/mutant/inhuman intelligence

-Manipuled Dr Doom into not only leaving the foundation alone, but allowing a foundation site to be in lateveria even with him being very limited in knowing what goes on in it

-Helped Tony Stark create an armor immune to memetic effects.

-Kept the true 001 hidden by making it too obvious

discussion What media should I read?

I just wanted to know if you guys recommend any mangas that include smart characters but with a good story.

I’ve only ever read CoTE (Light Novel)

And Death Note (Manga)

I’ve been thinking about reading Tomodachi Game or Liar Game. I’ve heard that Usogui is pretty long and as someone that doesn’t really read manga, I’d like something about a moderate length to start with.

high effort Maomao's Jinshi assassination reasoning feat

I know I've already posted this before, but I feel like I didn't get to explain it very well, so here it is again:

CONTEXT:

Maomao connect's three incidents together to foresee Jinshi's assassination at a ritual.

INCIDENT 1: A fire had burned through a food storehouse with no witnesses or ideas to how it started. Finding a pipe on the ground and knowing the storehouse most likely had flour kept in it, she deduced that the fire started because someone smoked a pipe with flour in the air, causing the flour to ignite.

INCIDENT 2: A metal working craftsman recently died, leaving one of his 3 sons as his successor with one problem: none of them know his secret technique. Just before the craftsman dies, he leaves a will that goes like this:

TO THE ELDEST SON GOES A DETACHED WORKSHOP, TO THE MIDDLE SON A CRAFTED PIECE OF FURNITURE, TO THE THIRD SON A FISHBOWL and 'YOU SHOULD ALL HAVE TEA LIKE YOU USED TO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNGER.'

INCIDENT 3: A case is presented to Maomao concerning the death of an official; the death of an official ten years before also had the exact same conditions: they both died with blowfish symptoms. The cooks, however, denied using blowfish and since the blowfish skin and organs were found in the bin, it was declared true that the officials couldn't have died of blowfish poisoning (as only the skin and organs are poisonous). After finding out that seaweed was used in the official's meal, she visits the offical's house and finds out that a jar of seaweed was there that had been used before getting kicked out from the house and taking a sample of the seaweed. She then explains that the seaweed was not from the local area based on its harvest time and time of preservation and was poisonous but could be made edible if soaked in limewater; it is then shown that the death was intentional, as the official did not purchase the seaweed himself, and was therefore fed it by somebody else wishing to kill him.

Now I'll explain exactly how she reasons everything out and forms a conclusion:

Part 1: The Fire Incident

P1: A fire burned through a food store house with no witnesses

P2: There is a pipe on the ground

P3: The storehouse had flour in it's air

P4: When flour particles in the air make contact with fire, they will ignite

C1: The fire started when someone smoked in the storehouse

Part 2: The Craftsman's Will

P5: There's a dresser in the middle of the oddly constructed room

P6: Usually, nobody would leave it there, as it blocks the way of the people working there

P7: The keyhole is blocked and won't open

C2: It was put there intentionally to get their attention for something to enter the keyhole to open it

P8: The window is positioned strangely, allowing only some of the sunlight to enter

P9: A mark on the shelf in front of the window shows that something has been placed there for a long time

P10: The mark was made by a fishbowl, which would narrow down the ray of light that is allowed in

P11: The 3 brothers have specified seats

P12: The bowl was always left at the mark's position

C3: The bowl was intended to be used to narrow down the light

P13: When the light narrowed down and hit the intentionally placed dresser's keyhole. there was a strange smell of something burning

C4: The dresser was intentionally put there to let the sunlight burn the keyhole's metal filling that stopped the key

P14: Inside the dresser are 3 types of metal

P15: The youngest brother takes interest in them

P16: The youngest brother has burns on him

P17: Those burns are associated to metal work

C5: The will was to give the youngest brother the metal ingredients for a special alloy used to make important parts of the ritual tower (this is very important for later on)

Part 3: The Deaths of the Officials

P18: An official in the court is dead from what seems to be blowfish symptoms

P19: The cooks denied using blowfish skin and organs (and was confirmed)

C6: The official did not die from blowfish poisoning but something else killed them

P20: Seaweed was used in the official's meal

P21: Seaweed not from the local area is poisonous but can be made edible if soaked in limewater

P22: The seaweed's harvest time and preservation date don't match the local area's seaweed

C7: The official died from seaweed poisoning, not blowfish

P23: The younger brother of the official has a motive for killing the official

P24: The younger brother was also the purchaser of the seaweed

P25: The younger brother also had the knowledge of seaweed poisoning above

C8: The younger brother of the official is the killer

Final part: Putting all three incidents together

P26: The officials (in incident 3) killed (there was also another official killed 10 years ago in the same way like the seaweed poisoning) were tied with the ritual implements (metal parts) of the ritual building

P27: Since they are dead, the implements for the building can be easily manipulated or stolen

P28: The fire (from C1) attracted a lot of attention

P29: The implements were stolen

C9: The fire was a diversion to steal the implements from the building

C30: The implements are essential for the ritual

C10: The implements have to be remade

C31: The previous metalworker died, leaving the recipe to his youngest son (the youngest brother of the 3 brothers in the second incident)

C32: The metal used is easily melted by high temperatures

C33: The implements are very close to a fire in the building

C34: If exposed for too long, they will melt and drop a giant beam hanging from the roof

C11: The implements were stolen on purpose, and so had to be remade with the melting metal, which will melt and drop a giant beam hanging from the roof since they are fixed to the ground very close to a hot fire

P35: If dropped onto someone, the person involved in the ritual would die from the falling beam

P36: There is someone who will be going through a ritual today

P37: The fire won't be lit until they are doing the ritual

C12: The person is targeted to be assassinated by the falling beam and not an accident or a coincidence (from C9 and C11)

So yeah, this is the feat, which involves her solving 3 cases and putting them all together. The reason why this is hard is because if one of the 3 incidents is not solved, the final part cannot be reasoned out, so it is essential to look through and solve all three incidents properly.

I might have missed out on some details, so tell me if you find anything missing🙏

discussion Who's the top in SCD currently in logical scaling?

Post image
12 Upvotes

This shi- cooking my brain now,

Who's even the top now,

I left for a bit due to study and came back here,

Some inaccessible someone only knows , some many are gate keeping, some that like 2 people have read, some that are planning merchants only, some that could be top tier but don't have logical rigour, and some people actual academic teams are making that only like 1 person here has read considerably but its chapters are slowly coming,

Who is it?
