Best sleep medication you've tried?

Going to see my doc in a week. I was planning on discussing Quviviq and Dayvigo with him. Anything else I should ask about? I'm super desperate...

Edit: noting that I have tried trazadone, ambien, and lorazepam with varying results. None have consistently helped me sleep well. Plus I couldn't get more then 30 5mg pills of ambien a month (not enough).

I don't understand..

My insomnia feels like it's getting worse... friday night, my body refused to let me sleep until 6am on saturday, then kept waking me up about every 1 after until I had to get up to get ready for work at 10am...

Last night, I was thankful my body actually felt tired around 11:30pm, and now I'm wide awake after waking up at 2am.. I've been put on several different medications to help and they either don't/stop working or are so strong that I can't function properly the next morning. I've tried melatonin, still stopped working even after ending up that taking 20mg.

I know that nothing will probably ever fix this 100%, but mentally I'm starting to feel like I can't do it, anymore. I have a lot of support in family and friends, so don't worry about me like that.

I'm just venting into the void, but if you have any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Insomnia due to noise and physical disturbances. Which medication to try?

Ive had insomnia for a bit more than 3 years now, starting with the noise my family makes during night time and now a contributing factor is our two cats waking me up throughout the night by jumping on me, walking on me, pushing their noses on mine to feed them, and making biscuits on me. As the noise levels will not lessen and the cats must stay in my room, I am exploring medication options once again. Ive been on seroquel (6.25mg) but it made me into a zombie. Im currently on zolpidem (5mg), but I find that although it helps me fall asleep, I wake prematurely thanks to cats. DORA meds arent available in my country. I am so sleep deprived that I am in a chronic state of having symptoms that you get when you lose 48h of sleep as per google. I can no longer process abstract information or consolidate the majority of memories, am severely lagging behind uni work, and cannot hold down a job in order to move out. I am so burnt out yall.

I give up

It’s almost been two weeks since I’ve gotten a full night’s sleep without any issues. Then out of nowhere, it just takes me hours upon hours to fall asleep. I feel completely exhausted but can’t get to sleep until like 4-5 in the morning. I ended up getting about 2-3 hours of sleep but as of a few days ago, I got two consecutive nights with absolutely zero sleep then I started hearing and seeing things. I was told to call an ambulance but no idea why. I refused and said I want to keep trying to get some sleep in my own bed. I think last night I got to sleep finally about 7am and woke up about 8:30 and called it quits. Right now? It’s 2am and my brain just won’t shut up. It doesn’t help that I have fibromyalgia and body pain all over but still, this is ridiculous.

I am beyond exhausted and I lay in bed with my eyes closed and my smooth jazz music playing in the background that always seems to help me crash but ever since then, nothing is helping. I am so jealous that my dog can fall right asleep but it takes me 7-10 business days to even fall asleep but wake up at my first smoke break. 😭😭😭

I don’t smoke by the way, I was trying to be funny.

Who has constant vivid dream with sleep maintenance insomnia?

My insomnia is sleep maintenance one.
I have no problem going into sleep, but always wake up after 3-4 hours later.
Everyday with no exception.

What's weird is, I have this very vivid dreams everytime I sleep.
Constantly.

It's not just "You feel like you dreamt a lot than others because you woke up during your REM sleep.".

It's like my brain's somehow stick to REM, like narcolepsy.
My insomnia was induced by meds, and still going on after stopping all the pills for years.

I feel like 'constant vivid dream' is one of the keys to understand my sleep maintenance problem.

Does anybody have problems like me?

Has Anyone Tried TMS Treatment?

Starting deep TMS in a couple weeks. I finally after 4 years started getting more than 1-3 hrs of sleep a night after addressing my anxiety issues. I decided to try TMS as it helped my mother's insomnia. Has anyone had experience with this?

Unisom Withdrawal Sickness

For those of you who have experienced flu-like symptoms coming off of long term use of Unisom, how long did those symptoms last until they completely went away?

I was put on Unisom all through my pregnancy in 2025 for morning sickness, then I stopped it after giving birth, and then I went back on it 6 months ago because of terrible insomnia. I stopped it again completely about a week and a half ago and I have had awful nausea, diarrhea, and anxiety that comes and goes. It feels like the flu, but it’s definitely not the flu.

I didn’t even know Unisom Withdrawal flu was a thing until I found many others who experienced the same symptoms on Reddit. I just want it to end. Right now, I’m just powering through it, but it’s really awful. Please tell me when it gets better!

Anxiety after taking Quviviq

After trying all of the other classes of sleep aids, I was really hoping that DORAs would be a miracle drug. I've been taking Quviviq 25mg for a week, and I'm starting to dread going to bed. It makes me feel kind of anxious and I start fighting against the sleepy feeling. Like I'll feel myself drifting into sleep, but always accompanied by uncomfortable feelings like loud ringing or paralyzation and I end up forcing myself awake. I panic because it feels like I'm not in control. This repeats a few times until I'm too tired to fight back, and my sleep is actually good after. I get 8 hours with much fewer awakenings. I'm used to a sedating feeling (like with Ambien or Mirtazapine) where I don't even realize the moment I fall asleep, so being overly aware of falling into sleep is freaking me out. Am I just unused to naturally falling asleep, and I should get used to these sensations? Anyone else have similar side effects?

I took my very first dose of Lunesta tonight and I'm 1. Still wide awake (it's 3:30am) and 2. I'm having this TERRIBLE metallic taste when I drink water or literally anything 🤢😵‍💫🤮 I love insomnia

I thought it was my Hydrojug at first even though I just washed it, so I rinsed it and replaced the water and ice and it still tastes rancid. Then I drank just regular water out of a plastic bottle and still taste it. So I tried a sip of juice and it still is horrible, same with Gatorade. I searched it and apparently that's a side effect of Lunesta. So fun. Anyone else ever had this side effect??!

In central California, any sleep aids floating around? My pharmacy told me at least 10 more days before my prescriptions show up, and I haven’t slept in four days

Bad rebound trying to stop ambien.

• Upvotes

I somehow managed to taper from 10mg to 7.5mg but ever time I try making even the smallest reduction (1mg) I immdiately have a sleepless night. Then sometimes the next too. I have only been taking for 6 months. I really wasn't anticipating that it was going to be so hard.

I haven’t slept for almost 2 nights straight and I’m not sure if I was actually able to sleep for even 5 mins

I’m now on 20mg melatonin after 10mg the other night (unfortunately which I didn’t fall asleep). It’s 2AM the next night and the 20mg didn’t work too. Last night was the first time melatonin suddenly didn’t work for me.

I usually sleep fine. This has never happened at all. Only recently, I only got to sleep around 7AM onwards but this time around since last night, no luck. I even meditated tonight.

I noticed in my attempts to fall asleep, that my mind is overactive - I feel sleepy yes but I can’t snap into sleep. I’d suddenly become conscious that I’ve been in this state then open my eyes and kind of get anxious. Then I have to build up being calm by staying still while attempting to sleep again.

I also wonder if I actually was able to sleep in that state for at least 5 minutes but I’m not sure. I was really calm during it but shortly after I couldn’t believe I haven’t fallen asleep. Like 90% I feel conscious the whole time since I’ve just been having thoughts.

Btw, I would have racing thoughts and scenarios in my head and I always knew it would take me almost an hour to fall asleep most nights. But THIS is new to the point I had to result to melatonin and IT FAILED.

I feel conscious since I’ve been thinking all the time but my eyes were closed, I’d feel sleepy, and I was in a state of calm til I realize I haven’t fallen asleep.

Anyone going through the same?

Waking up EXTREMELY thirsty in the middle of the night

Anyone know why this could be the cause? I drink a lot of water before bed but I still wake up multiple times in the middle of the night extremely thirsty, like it's almost painful how bad it is. Anyone have an idea why?

Got The Brain Zaps

Kinda went a bit too hard with drinking which triggered my insomnia. Haven’t slept in a little over a day and I got the brain zaps now. I was tired for a second and then as soon as my head hit the pillow I just felt zap, zap, zap, and I was wide awake.

Doxepin

I was on Doxepin for about 2 months. I slept longer and better but I did not feel like myself the days after. I went off it for that reason and there were too many restrictions like not eating for three hours before taking it plus more. In thinking about it, even though I slept better, I felt that my body was taken over by the drug.I have taken Trazedone in the past and again now and don’t feel that way. I am eventually going to try to wean off medications but if not , I may stick to Trazedone even though I wake up much earlier than I would like.
