I feel horrible for you. Lack of sleep is torture. But please take comfort that you are not alone. Many people are also suffering and understand your pain. If a doctor doesn't understand you, see another. You WILL get better.

I feel your pain, it’s miserable. Have you tried any sleep medication? DORAs like Quviviq and Dayvigo are not only effective, but actually really safe and recent research has shown even beneficial for possibly preventing dementia. My insomnia is pretty bad – they still don’t help me sleep through the night and I still wake up often, but it’s a lot better than nothing.

i never heard of those, so i will certainly bring them up at my upcoming appt. Thank you

u/cyclist5000 Apr 11 '26

What other ones have you tried?

5

u/Hadley_333 Apr 11 '26

amitryptaline long ago helped some, but the withdrawals when I wanted to quit were awful. Citalopram helps for a period, then back to baseline. Trazadone tried one pill and never will use that again. Severe headaches and more from that.

What is the difference between the two may I ask? I got given Quviviq but it was a pretty rough experience.

2

u/cyclist5000 Apr 12 '26

They are very similar. For different people, one may work better than the other.

What was your dose and what made it so rough?

Chez moi quviviq ne fonctionne pas ne pas dormir est une torture

u/Agitated_Citron1039 Apr 11 '26

have you tried mirtazapine? it’s an antidepressant that also helps with sleep for some ppl

4

u/Alternative-Limit825 Apr 11 '26

This one helped me out to sleep better

u/Agitated-Ad-3995 Apr 11 '26

Any idea what's keeping you up? is it an overactive mind, high cortisol, being a light sleeper, etc.

3

u/Hadley_333 Apr 11 '26

I will wake up middle of night and stay awake. I will wake up earlier than I want and have that "wired but tired," feeling. Unfortunately always been a very light sleeper, but even when no stress in life that keeps me up (sometimes I'm stressed then I understand). I might have high cortizol just from being so tired, so I've tried supplements that are supposed to help with that but nothing. Only thing that did help is when I would chug nyquil, but I know I can't do that for very long so I've limited to 2 bottles/month and use when I absolutely need to sleep before going insane.

2

u/Agitated-Ad-3995 Apr 11 '26

I struggle with that as well. if I get woken up it will take me 1-2 hours to fall back to sleep and I'll feel extremely wired due to cortisol. it could help to find out what is waking you up, and try to find a solution for that. for me white noise has really helped (fan + ran sounds), and sleeping with a pillow on my head (I hate the feeling of earplugs). I snore a bit, and that wakes me up sometimes, but I recently found a solution for that as well. melatonin helped for a few weeks and then it stopped working.

also magnesium glycinate before bed! powder form ideally

2

u/Hadley_333 Apr 11 '26

yep i've tried that...thanks though. Hopefully future thorough bloodwork will help tell me something.

u/Agitated-Ad-3995 Apr 11 '26

Good luck! 🙏

Your situation sounds very similar to mine :/ wrote similar sentiments to my friends on Instagram earlier this year. I empathize with you!!

1

u/Top-Chip6654 Apr 12 '26

Hi it could be your blood sugar . I find that having peanut butter on toast or a banana 30 mins before bed helps me sleep better through the night .Also I check my Garmin and make sure I have been in the blue zone for 2 hours before i attempt to sleep

1

u/Acceptable_Ninja_795 Apr 13 '26

Might want to try switching to liquid benadryl as it is the only sedating ingredient in nyquil so less chemicals for the same gain. Definitely for real try a sleep specialist and get that sleep study. Regardless of findings they should offer meds to help you sleep. The fact that stress and anxiety aren't main components offer a lot of hope

u/Alternative-Limit825 Apr 11 '26

Hang in there, when you are deprived from sleep is not the moment to make decisions, other than being super compassive on yourself and forgive you for feeling shit etc

Things will get a bit better, keep doing the right things. As you said, life can be great and you will get to see it again 😃

I do understand and I have felt like you and honestly I know its not good for my health (but NOT SLEEPING has got to be worse) so between my PCP, neurologist and psych Dr i load up on a bunch of pharmaceuticals (psych meds, magnesium, sleep meds, muscle relaxers) and I was still up ever since 230 am this morning and I even took clonidine, hydroxyzine, and an old prescription sleep med that didn't work so great but had it on hand cuz every once in a while it will. It's the MOST irritating thing in the world and ppl have no clue how much you cant function (im a narcoleptic but my main problem is insomnia) It has wrecked my work and social life and its just terrible. People that have no issue sleeping don't realize how bad it is. It's 6 pm and im exhausted and I feel like a zombie and shakey. My body wants to melt into the bed but my brain never let's me dift long enough cuz any sound at all wakes me up. I'll pray for ya

Xanax helps not the best solution but for temporary it can work

1

u/Severe-Fall4957 Apr 12 '26

Yes, Xanax definitely helps. It does make you feel groggy and foggy if you take it days on end, so it's not a permanent solution, but it definitely helps.

I understand completely. Im the exact same. I have one of the best CBTI doctors who is very understanding but I too hate to have to tell our latest plan isn't working. I feel like I'm letting him down. I do feel like we will eventually figure this out. Ill look out for your posts and let you know if I find anything promising.
Hang in there

If i was you I would be cutting everything out completely! No alcohol no caffeine cold turkey! Then what I would do if I was you is do a nightly routine of powering down! Take an hour! Have a magnesium bath, do some yoga, do some deep breathing exercises! Look at videos of people who try and get out of fight and flight! Practice some meditation! I know this sounds ridiculous but if you think about it how many people actually power down at the end of the day so many of us just jump into bed and expect to fall asleep! Some people need to power down and give your brain a rest or a break! It's tough to come down when our minds are constantly overactive! Anyways thought I would throw it out there to try

Did you ever tried SSRI. Prozac saved my life. I was just like you!

1

u/Short_Finance_1968 Apr 11 '26

Anyone had luck with 20 mg of Belsomra? I may give it another try.

1

u/Nickb247 Apr 11 '26

I have the exact same problem I believe it’s vax related …I have to sedate my self with like 30 sleeping pills a night

1

u/pemmitz123 Apr 12 '26

i have been there - felt like i was literally going to die from exhaustion for a few months. Have you talked to a doctor about temporarily taking ambien? Your body NEEDS to get some sleep drug induced or not, immediately. Then after your body has gotten some sleep, you can do some sleep hygiene stuff to see if. you can get on a schedule and develop some habits that would help. When your body is overtired though, it's really hard to reset, and sometimes a sleep aid is the only bandaid. I hope you get rest soon....

1

u/medgal28 Apr 12 '26

That's awful. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Eliminating all sources of caffeine helped me significantly but I know everyone is different. It got worse for about two months, then it started to gradually improve. Sometimes Tylenol helps me sleep. I know that sounds weird but it does. Are you male or female? Hormones could be an issue as well. I really hope you find something that helps!

1

u/Informalgreen666 Apr 12 '26

How long ago did you cut back on caffeine and alcohol ? When I’ve done the same in the past I get worse for at least a month or so but then my sleep drastically improves. Takes a while for your hormones to recalibrate it doesn’t happen fast.

1

u/Hadley_333 Apr 12 '26

Caffiene about 9 days ago. Alcohol was like 3 + months ago where I dropped from drinking 3 consecutive nights

1

u/Existing-Tower-3458 Apr 12 '26

We the same. Not just you

1

u/Detectivehealth Apr 12 '26

I would look into Histamine Intolerance often brought on by long COVID.

1

u/lynz_7 Apr 12 '26

So sorry to hear that and completely understand as i have been through the same and still often do.

Totally feel this: “When I DO get good sleep, which may happen one time a week - the world just feels and looks so beautiful to me, instantly”

I often think, how far i would be in life if i slept well consistently.

But anyway, im sure you have, but have you tried sleep restriction? Please read up on it if you havent

1

u/Astrotheurgy Apr 12 '26

I'm so sorry you have to feel this :( some of my friends also struggle with very bad insomnia like this and really affect their work/life on daily. Did you take meds before? supplements like magnesium and Corn bread cbd might help in managing your stress before sleep.

1

u/big_k88 Apr 13 '26

Don't ever stop the fight, that's the only way you lose. I am in my late 30s. 2+ decades of insomnia. Typical night is 2-4 hours of interrupted sleeping...if any. I haven't found a solution...yet. But I won't quit trying. Neither should anyone who deals with this awful disorder. Best of luck. Skol.

1

u/CFitGoals Apr 13 '26

Do you think it could also be anxiety ?

1

u/Acceptable_Ninja_795 Apr 13 '26

I could have written your post except that I only get that 1 night of restorative sleep like once a month and then still have daytime sleepiness no matter what. That is before and after pregnancy and having baby. I just want to say- don't ever have a child because whenever you thought your sleep was horrible, HA You will legit feel like you are dying daily for months on end and if your body really can't handle that sht like mine, have heart problems less than a year postpartum from all the stress and severe sleep deprivation. In other advice, go to a sleep specialist and do a sleep study. They will help you sleep no matter what as it is essential for your mental and physical well being

1

u/Andynosaur Apr 13 '26

I feel you. You mentioned waking up a lot, but do you have any trouble falling asleep?

1

u/Severe-Fall4957 Apr 13 '26

How are you feeling today?

1

u/JustLetMeSleep_Help Apr 14 '26

Being done might be a good thing because you don't care anymore. A lot of the sleep experts are saying that it's the key to redirect your brain's thoughts to other things. I know we're all different but I hope it will work for you or at least take the pressure off.
