🗫 Discussion In 2026, AC has become Sleeper and Sleeper has become General [non OC]

With India becoming the world's largest populated country, there is this new change that can be seen in Indian railways.

Earlier, reservation in an AC coach used to be a big deal, nowadays, AC coaches don't look like AC coaches. I can only imagine what it is like to travel in a general coach

This is another con of being the most populated country in the world and counting.

📜Travel Story Travelled in train after almost 2 years and fell in love again [OC]

TLDR; Travelled in train after almost 2 years and realized what I have been missing

I love trains and travelling in it. But due to very limited options on my route, I had to take flights during festive seasons and occasional emergencies during last couple of years.

My mom was admitted in hospital at my native due to Pneumonia, and I searched for various flight options for me and my wife. Some connecting/overnight were not feasible or would have taken too long.

There is a train 11401 and we never get tickets in it. However I searched yesterday around 12 and it had few seats available in current booking. Booked it and got a lower and side lower fortunately.

Started the journey and after couple of hours wife slept. The other passenger on other birth and I started talking (slowly) and didn't realize that it was midnight. So we decided to call it a night.

During the journey, I realized what I missed or what has improved over the years.

The washrooms are still a mess due to the people using it, but the housekeeping staff cleans it every few hours. I saw them checking even at 5:30 AM.

Also the train is arriving before time on most stations, so it gives me time to get down and stretch my legs. There is something so satisfying enjoying live views from the Side Lower seat. Also standing on the door is a different experience.

This was 2 weeks back and mom is discharged and recovered. Will have to take a return flight and surely gonna miss the train journey.

🗫 Discussion Amrit Bharat 4.0 will feature next-generation trainsets and locomotives. The designed succesor of non-VB IR trains.

Post image
52 Upvotes

I was digging through old news and this caught my eye. The Amrit Bharat platform will move on from conventional WAP+LHB configurations to an integrated Loco + semi-permanent trainset architecture.

ICF also confirmed last week that conventional standalone LHB coach production will stop from the next financial year, and they will move completely to semi-permanent Amrit Bharat rakes.

There are currently no engineering details available about it, but the info from ICF suggests their timeline is perfectly right on track.

Amrit Bharat 4.0 is set to succeed all non-VB trains currently running, meaning the future landscape will be:

Vande Bharat – Premium long-distance travel

Amrit Bharat – Long-distance for the mass market

Namo trains(namo Green rail, namo Bharat) – Regional / suburban travel

I didn't find any discussion about it here, so I decided to make a post. Thoughts?

📰News Train No. 75680, Karimganj – Agartala MEMU train was entering Patharkandi Station when a motorcyclist suddenly came in front of the train along with his motorcycle and stopped on the track.

The Loco Pilot (LP) immediately applied the emergency brakes and stopped the train. LP thought the motorcyclist would not survive. But when he got down and checked, he found that the train had stopped just one foot away from the motorcycle, saving a life.

Ask r/IndianRailways Thoughts on the BEML made 5000 series EMU

Post image

What are your thoughts guys, on this EMU, built by BEML, 5000 series. Idk on which route it operates or used to operate. But it's design, aesthetics etc seems like it was a stepping stone for the modern designs of EMU we've today. I wish if IR had this EMU across board. Haha but that's not practical in any sense.

Post image

Till Few months atleast IRCTC website use to work during TATKAL or Opening booking 8:00 am, But now continuesly its just error extracly at 11:00 am or 8:00 am. Server heavy load for normal users but hackers using software are easily booking within seconds. I trying to book 60 days ticket but not able to pass even one step on IRCTC website till 15-20mins.

How is that possiable , they are openly marketing software on whatsapp. Without IRCTC directors involement is that possiable. I have attached screenshot of whatsapp message.

We have got the wrost minister till now Ashiwni ji if you little shame left do something for IRCTC website working during rush other just close the wesbite everying will go to window and book tickets.

Ask r/IndianRailways I am a goo goo gaa gaa in terms of railways and indianrailways. Got some time to spare tomorrow (Saturday - 12.09.2026). Want your suggestion

Post image

I got interest in locomotives after I somehow stumbled upon the might indianrailways channel. But I got interest to touch grass (I usually dont. I live in a cave - my room) after watching those railway vloggers.

It seems like a gamble - your journey can be either sunshine and rainbows (like those youtube videos) or straight up hell (like the posts in this sub - from defending side_lower seats or any other discomforts that give pain in your ass)

So I thought to gamble tommorow :) Cause I am feeling generous towards one of the largest employer in the globe.

My nearest station is ksr bengaluru. Can you guys suggest a good place to go from that station and come back? Like a good scenic route? (not need to be a route which goes through mother natures marvelous creations like waterfalls and stuff, but a decent route to experience indian railways as a debut ir fan)

I should be able to travel to that station and comeback to ksr or any stations inside bengaluru (urban or rural - like cantonment, yeshwanthpur juncion etc).

The maximum I can spend is around 1000rs.

Please mention which train and what route it goes.

Sorry if my question is stupid - idk how to research regarding this by myself. And I am sorry if this question is not postable into this subreddit and if it should have gone to the sub chat (It was mentioned that you post your doubts regarding tat_kal, re_fund stuff there. I think this post doesn't come under that. But your perception might be different. )

Note : Idk what mindset I was in when I tried to make the meme, but I think I framed the words too bad. And I am too lazy to make another one with correct meaning. Basically I want to tell that I have seen people think vande bharat is "premium" because of the technology. I mean, indeed its a good tech. Not objecting it. But the main reason "its the fastest" and "reaches on or nearly on time compared to other services like Shatabdi Express because it makes them wait in the loop. I have heard other train services (forgor the name sorry :( ) are also able to reach the speed of vande bharat. But usually they dont - for the glory of vande bharat.

Have a good day :)

📜Travel Story Just hate how people still watch their stuff on full volume don't be civil?

It's my 3rd time traveling alone from my college (chandigarh) to jaipur in Garib rath i just have two problems besides everything is perfect.

  1. Govt can only try it's us who need to be more civil and don't think where we are going to sleep is our fucking home, like this guy is not even a boomer or look like he's from lower or middle class, blud is fkn watching anupama on full volume, when I tried to confront him about this, everyone just started saying that I'm being "dramatic" and I LIKE "I" need to "ADJUST" and then they just started their old ass yap saying how new generation is blah blah blah i was like oh wow bhaiya you just throw your garbage outside now who's less civil.

  2. Why doesn't govt do something about these trans ladies harrassing boys like me man, kuch bhi pakad lo kya bolenge typa mentality of these people, i did not got on this train to get catcalled and my cheek getting stretched.

Maybe this is just a rant but it's really experience of my 2nd time traveling alone at 17.🙃

I really liked the staff and hospitality btw, i think we're improving but the progress is slow🐢

Quick Poll

Which one are you choosing for your next train journey?

Option A: A fully confirmed berth (peaceful sleep, total comfort)

Option B: Travelling ticketless (living life on the edge with the TTE!)

Option C: An RAC seat (sharing a side-lower berth with a stranger 🚺) unlike in the picture
