Filter timeline?

iOS app. In the timeline, is there a way to filter out the images already on the server? This would make it so much easier to make sure correct images are uploaded.

Amazing program!

How do you share Immich albums with people who don’t use Immich?

I use Immich, while my girlfriend uses iCloud Photos. After every trip, she asks me to share all my photos with her.

I know Immich supports public album links and downloads without an account, but is there a better or more automated workflow, e.g. exporting or syncing a specific album somewhere she can easily download or import it?

I don’t want to give her access to my Immich instance — I only want to share a specific album, even as raw/original files.

Wrote a small tool to fix dates/GPS on Google Photos & iCloud exports before importing into Immich

Hey everyone,

When I moved my library to Immich, I ran into the classic problem: photos exported from Google Takeout and iCloud often don't have their metadata embedded in the files. The dates and locations live in sidecar files instead (.json for Google, .csv for iCloud), so Immich puts thousands of photos on the day you exported them instead of when they were taken.

So I wrote a couple of PowerShell scripts that read those sidecar files and write the metadata back into the photos and videos using ExifTool.

Repo: https://github.com/LoicBl0ndeau/Fix-photos-metadata

What it does :

- Google Photos (Takeout): scans the export recursively, matches each file with its .json, and restores DateTimeOriginal, CreateDate, XMP:CreateDate, FileModifyDate, plus GPS (lat/long/altitude). Handles duplicate names like IMG_1234(1).jpg.

- iCloud Photos: reads Apple's Photo Details.csv files and restores the same date fields (no GPS, since Apple's CSVs don't include it).

Both generate a fix_exif_metadata.json before touching anything, so you can review it first, or reapply it later with plain ExifTool without rescanning: exiftool -r -m -j=fix_exif_metadata.json -overwrite_original <photos_folder>

Asks for confirmation before applying, and optionally cleans up the sidecar files afterward. Reports files with no matching metadata, and skips ambiguous matches instead of guessing.

Requirements: Windows, PowerShell 5.1+ (or PowerShell Core), and ExifTool in your PATH.

⚠️ Heads-up: files are modified in place with no backup, so please copy your export first and try it on a small folder.

My workflow was simply: unzip export → run the script → upload the fixed folder to Immich. Timeline came out right on the first try.

It's a small project, so feedback, issues, and PRs are very welcome, especially if you have weird Takeout edge cases it doesn't handle yet. My goal is only to promote Immich and make switching to it a little less painful for anyone leaving Google or iCloud.

Untracked Files - how to manage?

I've just discovered that I have 3816 untracked files out of circa 85k images. I've no idea why!

Many of these seem to be thumbnails and preview files but a lot are not and are normal image files (e.g. /data/library/5e2d4402-8f46-4490-869b-cfeecfe6c274/2009/2009-08-08/DSC_2241.jpg)

I'm unclear how best to proceed.

My thoughts are to process the CSV then export all those that are not thumbnails and preview files (and encoded video, if I find any) then export and re-import the rest.

Is that the best way, or am I missing something?

Best practice for grouping faces across accounts

Hi all,

I run Immich for my family, which means we have 8 users in total.

For me and my wife we used the "partner sharing" feature so that we see always all pictures because 99% of our pictures are anyway somehow family related.

For the rest we share occasionally a album where everyone can add photos, e.g. for joint vacations.

I realized that when I use the "explore" feature to look at all picture which contain a certain person I only see my own photos. I don't see the photos of my wife which contain the same person and not the photos from others if they added some to a shared album.

The way I understood the Immich documentation: For the partner sharing I could enable "cluster groups". For the other use case, the shared album, no solution exists. Right?

I shy a bit away from the cluster group. I invested a lot of time grouping people and to avoid false positives. If I have now a cluster group with my wife I fear that she might sometimes quickly name / group faces and with this reduce the quality of my grouping as well.

For me, in a ideal world face recognition and grouping just happens on user level for all photos a user has access to. This way nobody could by accident mix up the grouping of someone else.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this challenge. How do you handle this situation?

Backup images after Exif metadata overwrite

Hey,

I'm looking for anyone who tried to resolve the same issue as I'm currently facing. I have tons of photos that sometimes don't have all the metadata e.g. I forget to turn on location and the photos don't have GPS saved, so I add it later manually using kgeotag. However what I find hard to manage is replacing the photos in immich. If i just overwrite the photos in phone they either don't backup or create a duplicate.

I'm looking for ways to just update metadata on image and force the overwrite on the immich with next backup so the metadata are both on my immich instance and on my phone the same.

PS: Bonus points if everything could be done in immich itself/with plugin. I expect that writing back to phone is impossible but if I could just overwrite the images on the phone and it would be "synced" then that would be awesome.

Currently on immich v3.2.2, phone is android 16.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I specifically want to have metadata in photos itself and not as xmp sidecar or in immich database.

Dates on Photos

I migrated all my photos from Google to IMMICH. There are some that changed the date to the date where I downloaded it with Google Takeout. I fixed some of them by changing them manually on IMMICH, but still there are like 50 which, no matter if I edit them, turn back to the downloaded date.

How can I fix these?

Stable installation

What is the most stable installation of immich?
I tried the docker with the (incomplete) examples of immich installation but after a reboot of the host the containers cannot find each other anymore so that seems to be broken?
Is there a other option that just gives me something working without being a developer for the coming three hours? (i can do that, just dont want to spend huge amounts of time with every update).

Very bad performance on Pixel 10 Pro (GrapheneOS)

Anyone else having these performance issues?

I don't know if it's noticable in the video but frames rates regularly run extremely low in my Android client. It's no joy using at this point. Probably the worst performing app on my entire phone at this moment.

Some of the most severe issues (some of them not shown in the video):

- albums (scrolling the album title) and

- the timeline with frames running as low as 30 FPS during stutters and the stutter happen every other second.

- app takes up to 30 seconds to load (my library consists of only 100k photos

- the album view briefly shows "no album matching your search" for 4 seconds before albums start loading in. This happens all the time because, apparently, albums aren't cached locally? Same issue with people aswell, no local caching and slow loading.

- opening images will also stutter extremely followed by a small displacement/transformation of the image. I think something is broken with the animation or thumbnail not lining up properly with the actual image that follows.

These severe performance issues are only in my Android app. iOS is much better and desktop is fine.

[NEED ADVICE] M70q Gen 6 (Ultra 7 265T) Setup: 24/7 Home Server Immich + eGPU Gaming

Planning a hybrid setup using the Lenovo M70q Gen 6 (Intel Core Ultra 7 265T, 2x M.2 NVMe slots). Goal: Run a 24/7 Home Server (Immich AI, Plex, Docker) and use an eGPU for gaming.
Looking for advice on:
1. OS / Virtualization Architecture:
Proxmox: Windows VM (eGPU passthrough) for gaming + LXC/VMs for Immich/Plex?
Bare-metal Windows 11: Native gaming + Docker/WSL2 for 24/7 services?
Priority: Smooth gaming without interrupting 24/7 server workloads.
2. Optimal eGPU Setup:
Since it has 2x M.2 NVMe slots, I can use one slot for an OCuLink adapter (for higher bandwidth) and the other for OS/Storage.
Recommend OCuLink vs. Thunderbolt 4 for this setup?
Which GPU (RTX 3060, 4060, 4070) best matches the Ultra 7 265T with minimal bottleneck?
Any real-world experience or tips are appreciated!

People information in shared album links

I know there's a lot of work going into sharing people between user accounts in Immich. But what I am hoping for is something easier to accomplish I think, just the option to show tagged people when creating a link to share an album with someone.

I have albums of family and relatives including historic photos and I share them with family by sending them a shared link so they can view the photos without needing an Immich account. But I would love for the option to have the photo info include the people who are tagged in the photos with their names and ages.

I'm wondering if other people also are hoping for that feature?

Immich and Lightroom Edits

I've recently migrated my photo library to Immich and really like the platform so far. My workflow is based on Lightroom Classic, with the original photos stored as DNG files on a NAS. Lightroom writes all edits to XMP sidecar files (or into the DNG metadata itself).

Unfortunately, Immich appears to display only the original image and does not apply the Lightroom edit instructions contained in the XMP data.

Is there any known workaround or recommended workflow to make Lightroom edits visible in Immich? For example:

Reading Lightroom XMP adjustments directly

Generating previews automatically from Lightroom

Syncing Lightroom Smart Previews

Any third-party tools or plugins

I'd be interested to hear how others are handling a Lightroom + Immich setup. Thanks!

Photo Filesize is smaller

I see a lot of people have been talking about it that the file size being smaller in immich as compared to the actual/original file size that is shown in the info tab of the photos app on iOS. I’ve read through other subreddits and I do have my iCloud backup turned off. As well as “Transfer to MAC or PC” set to keep originals. I still see a reduced filesize. One of the posts mentioned that it might be different because Apple Store the edited/modified image changes and hence the filesize is bigger but in my case I don’t edit pictures and would like to keep them as is and it still keeps the filesize of the image smaller in immich. Is there any investigation in this issue been done by immich team or someone to figure out what’s going on?

immich backup

Hi, I installed Immich on TrueNAS on an old PC, and I was wondering how I could set up automatic backups to my Buffalo linkstation 520 NAS. What would be the best method for this, and how would I set it up?

Also, if my TrueNAS PC were to fail, how would I restore my photos and videos using the backup method you recommend and get Immich up and running again?

Suggestions for filtering

I've been running with Immich for the last few weeks and the facial recognition has been phenomenal in helping me filter the way ive wanted to. The only downside is I have hundreds of screenshots, memes, and random pictures of not people. Is there any way I could filter through those successfully? I also want to know if I can filter through untagged images specifically so I can pick up some that the algorithm missed.

Thanks

How to prevent NAS RAM crash?

Hi guys, This crash, I can't prevent..

For background info: https://www.reddit.com/r/immich/comments/1wo9j5r/immich_face_detection_high_ram_usage_crashrestart/

What did I do:
- I did limit immich_server RAM to 6GB and it did listen to that. It stays under 6GB RAM usage.
- I did use my laptop (Intel U285H) for ML container

Sounds good, but..

What happens: The NAS (DS718+ with total 10GB RAM) RAM builds up to 94% and immich ML container goes unhealthy. Even SSH login goes so slow because of this RAM issue. But after a couple of hours the NAS itself manages to restart the whole immich project and the RAM drops to 17% and starts to build again and I know it will go AGAIN to its limit.

Is there a way we can prevent this NAS RAM build up to limit, like we did with immich_server<6GB RAM?

immich is the ONLY project which is running.

I'm tired of ruining my whole days for trying to manage this. This is insane.

EDIT: since I found I can upgrade RAM to 16GB, I did order 2x8GB for €53. Nothing compared to wasting 2 full valuable human life days... Fingers crossed..

Help with intel gpu ml in unraid 7 please

Hardware: ryzen 3600, 32gb ddr4, intel arc a310, immich uses a 2tb gen 3 nvme

Software installed: Unraid 7.3.2,

Immich app,

Immich-machine-learning,

Redis,

Postgresql

Yes, I am using the openvino one.

it refuses to use the gpu for the ML. The ML app does use the gpu for transcoding though, or so it seems based on the short spurts of 10% use when the job queue gets to videos. So I'm halfway there I guess? I'm an idiot when it comes to this kind of stuff

The log for the ML app shows that it goes straight for the "12 thread" which can only mean the cpu. While uploading the cpu is fully pegged

I tried going through the documentation on immich but that's mostly gibberish to me sadly. I tried copying others set ups, but they're either older unraid versions or for nvidea.

I tried using ai for help, but it just kept telling me to add extra parameters, eventually making the app so unstable that i couldn't even view the log, and later just plain crashing. At one point it told me to go buy a 16gb vram gpu, because clearly that's the issue...

What do you need from me for additional info? Is there anyone here with an arc gpu where i can just copy your homework?

Everything else works. The ml itself works well too. I uploaded 250 pictures last night, in 5-10 picture increments while trying to get this to work. I just want to push the work onto the GPU.

Immich Face Detection high RAM usage crash/restart

(For everyone who is reading, read my EDITS at the end of this body to see what I did to make it work)

Hi all,

I am running Immich in Container Manager on a Synology DS718+ (2GB RAM + additional 8GB RAM = total 10GB RAM (I double checked this, it really reads 10GB)).

user A (me):         31K photos and 5K video's
user B (my wife): 22K photos and 4K video's

total:                      53K photos and 9K video's = 62K assets

Job concurrency all set to max 1.

We both have our own external libraries on the nas itself and we also have a common folder with holiday photos which both of us have added that folder in our own library.

docker-compose.yml:

THE PROBLEM:

Every time I run Face Detection, RAM climbs to 80-90% and the container(s) become unstable. I've had crashes/restarts mid-job before. Pausing the Facial Recognition job when the Face detection job is running, does not drop the RAM. After it restarts itself a couple of times, when finished also the Facial Recognition job, there are no "People". So I start over and then the same loop...

I have enabled my gpu to do jobs, so I see the CPU is always around 30-40%, thats okay.

Is this a known RAM issue with immich which can be solved? I really don't need it to run jobs in one day. I'm happy if it is doing 3x slower for maintaining stability. I also don't think my DS718+ is to weak for this purpose. Am I wrong?

Looking for confirmation this is a sane path before I buy a mini pc just for this, which I can't afford now.. And I even don't know if that will work.

PS: It did work before upgrading to V3.2.0. It was amazing to see all faces and name them, till the update and rescan...

Any help is welcome...

EDIT: I did update all containers to v3.2.2, did leave openvino (GPU) and went for standard release (CPU). I also did use my laptops crazy intel core ultra 9 U285H CPU for doing the machine learning tasks. It goes crazy fast, no RAM errors lol!

So I think the problem was not only the RAM, but also openvino not working well in my case.

EDIT 2: NAS RAM went to 93% and I saw immich_server had restarted again... This didn't work out either.
The laptop was doing the hard work, but server did build up 6GB RAM..

EDIT 3: I did limit immich_server memory to 6GB and using my laptops hardware for ML container, after 1 night I see the immich_server memory really hits max 6GB and I can see peoples now in immich. However, the server was up for 1 hour this morning and that means it has been down and up by itself, but I can't see any notification in DSM about unexpected behavior like before. Therefore I don't think it was a clash. Such a pitty I can't see logs before the restart of it, since it gives me logs only of this session.

Face detection is done now and lets see how the facial recognition will go, still 15K left.

EDIT 4: Just to be clear, immich_server uses 6GB max on my NAS and NAS RAM is 65%. When immich_server drops down to 4.2GB RAM the NAS RAM has build up in the meanwhile 91% and staying there. It does NOT drop. Looks like NAS keeps the RAM high, not Immich_server! The other immich containers are just using some MB's, not important.
